| Five Queensland stallions
are being offered for sale at next month's Magic Millions Winter Carnival Thoroughbred
Sale on the Gold Coast. Darbonne, Hatta's Mill,
Kendel Star, Special Dane and Stylish Century are all being put under the hammer by their
respective owners. As well there are single stallions shares to Canadian Silver and Clang.
Darbonne, an Group One placed son of Danzig, is being
offered by Toowoomba based thoroughbred nursery Oaklands Stud. Entering stud in 1997 he is
the sire of winners including Crocker, Kangaroo Point, Strathnaver, Happy Star, Sponge
Bob, Daraloe and Darby. Darbonne is a half brother to three Group winners and a Group race
runner-up galloper.
Nobby based Wattle Brae Stud are selling their stakes
placed son of Green Desert, Hatta's Mill. The sire of the stakes placed performer Auld
Hat, Hatta's Mill has also been represented by the handy winners Stacks on the Mill,
Millenial, Lady Isabella, Pitterac, Sahara Suzy, Mahatta and Sawmill Road. He is from a
stakes winning daughter of the Oaks winner Milly Moss.
Kenmare's Group Two runner-up performer Kendel Star is also
going to be up for grabs. A winner of close to $100,000 on the track he entered stud in
1996 and is the sire of winners including Ken Reign, Kendel Way, Regent Star, Kendel Lace,
She Ken Spy and Kendelwood. From the family of Lyphard, Nobiliary and Barcas he is by the
Group One winning galloper and top sire Kenmare.
The Special Dane Syndicate is giving a stud a great
opportunity to snap up the exciting stallion prospect Special Dane. A Group One winning
son of Danehill, Special Dane's best success came in the CF Orr Stakes. Entering stud in
1999 his oldest progeny are now yearlings and have sold for strong prices at sales to
date.
The final stallion offering (lot 363) is the former
champion galloper Stylish Century. A horse which needs little introduction he is a son of
the Sydney Cup winner Double Century and is a half brother to the dam of present day smart
performer Finbarr. Stylish Century is best known as winning the Victoria Derby, the Spring
Champion Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. At stud his best performers include the
stakes performers Alberton Star, Emerging Markets, Buster Jones, Golden Era, Suave
Prospect, Runaway, Stylish Mahal, Royal Sencherec, Stylish Dave and Fiordland.
The sale will also feature a dispersal of Rob Ferguson's
Torryburn Stud, which will take in a quality group of weanlings, yearlings and broodmares
- many of which are in foal to leading sires.
A total of 553 horses are being offered for sale in the
catalogue. The sale will be held at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Complex on June 9, 11
