| Last year's
Sydney Cup winner Mr Prudent will have his work cut out for him this year in his attempt
to win back to back Group One Sydney Cups after receiving an outside barrier for
Saturday's big race. The George Hanlon trained
stayer, who was seen hitting the line well in his lead up race in Melbourne recently, drew
barrier 20 in a final field of 21, which includes one emergency.
Only one horse, the Gai Waterhouse trained last start
runner-up Mr Nelson, will jump from a wider gate.
It was a better story for Waterhouse's other runner, the
reigning Metropolitan Handicap winner Dress Circle. The hard fit galloper drew perfectly
in four for the $822,000 race.
The New Zealanders had a mixed result with the draw.
Soldier Blue (13), Ebony Honor (17) and Hail (18) drew awkardly while Cavallo Bruno (3),
Lottery Prize (2) and Armstrong (7) fared much better.
The David Hall trained AJC Derby placegetter Pentastic drew
barrier 12 for jockey Brett Prebble.
The emergency, the Chris Waller trainer Star of the Seas,
has drawn barrier seven. He will be ridden by Chris Munce if he gains a run on Saturday.
