English stayer Vinnie Roe has firmed into outright favouritism for November's Melbourne
Cup at Flemington with one of Melbourne's leading bookmakers. Michael Eskander was forced to tighten the price on the Dermot Weld trained
galloper into 9/1 after his second in the recent Ascot Gold Cup in England.
"Vinnie Roe has been solidly supported, and after his
gallant second has firmed into 9/1 outright favourite for Melbourne Cup," Eskander's
spokesman Michael Horne said.
Meanwhile, Eskander also reports the good money in the
Caulfield Cup has been coming with Republic Lass, who's being coupled up in doubles with
Cyclades and Prized Gem.
"The big money last week saw punters come for the
doubles Republic Lass into both Cyclades and Prized Gem," Horne said.
"Whilst Republic Lass stayed at 9/1 (equal favourite)
for the Caulfield Cup, Cyclades firmed from 100/1 bet three weeks ago, into 40/1 after
continuous money. This money was in the Caulfield Cup also, where he firmed from 66/1 into
40/1."
"Prized Gem was firmed up from 66/1 into 40/1 for the
Melbourne Cup," Horne added.
