30/07/02 Hall of Fame Associate Inductee: Sol Green
Former heavyweight bookmaker and leading racehorse owner Sol Green has been chosen of one of five Associates to be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.

Born in London in 1868, Solomon Green migrated to Australia at the age of 15 and was to become one of the biggest bookmakers this country has ever seen.

Sol Green was also a prominent racehorse owner - his stayer Comedy King won the 1910 Melbourne Cup before becoming a successful sire while another horse, Gothic won successive Newmarket Handicaps in the late 1920s. He imported both of these horses.

Sol Green also opened the Melbourne Tattersall's Club and was a flamboyant character, with a penchant for Havana Cigars and gold Rolls-Royces.

Green died in 1948.
