win by Real Vision (NZ) (Vision Quest) in the Gr.3 Air New Zealand Winter Cup at Riccarton
adds further lustre to a family that has really come of age in recent months. In June
Real Vision scored his first black type win when taking the listed Kiwifruit Cup at
Tauranga. That was just weeks after his close relation Lovely Jubly had completed a
brilliant run of Queensland form encompassing the Gr.1 QTC T J Smith Stakes and
Sires Produce Stakes and the Gr.3 BTC Champagne Classic.
Regal Dell, the dam of Real Vision, is a sister to Lovely Jublys dam Jaboulet,
they both having been bred by John Mason during his employment at Chequers Stud.
That Cambridge nursery was of course responsible for the fine racehorse and sire Vice
Regal (NZ) (Bismark 11). He is now fashioning an excellent record as a broodmare sire,
with Lovely Jubly and Real Vision just two examples of his worth.
Mason sold Jaboulet as a weanling and she ended up in Queensland, where she first made
a name for herself as the dam of the Gr.2 ARC Highview Stud Trophy winner Sir Howard.
As well as being the owner and trainer of Real Vision, Mason has retained a link to the
breed through Dels Girl, a Deputy Governor half-sister to Regal Dell and Jaboulet
whose latest foal is a yearling filly by Green Perfume.
She is due to foal to the young sire Pupil, who, like Lovely Jublys sire Lion
Hunter, is a son of Danehill.
