Desert Sun needs little introduction. But I won't hear of anyone calling this
rising star of the breeding barn a one horse sire.Sure
he is probably best known for the exploits of his world champion racemare Sunline, but
don't forget his other runners include La Bella Dama, Moralee, Desert Ace, Thee Old
Dragon, Maudie, Te Akau Sun, Dazzling Belle, La Chamane, (Our) Egyptian Raine, Amnesia,
Real Time, Komplete Kaos, Java Siang, Armondo and Kalahari Miss.
It was no surprise to see one of Victoria's most
progressive studs - Eliza Park - hunting this rising star of the breeding world for their
Kerrie base to stand for his first stint in Australia.
A two-year-old winner Desert Sun trained on to win twice
more in Europe and America. But it's not his race record that he is now famous for, rather
his efforts as a leading Australasian sire.
This year sees the first Australian bred Desert Sun
yearlings offered for sale. The sire will be represented at all of the leading sales
throughout the region and his Adelaide offering of no less than 17 is set to capture the
        buyers attention.
Any one of the 12 colts or five fillies could just be
another star - like Sunline or La Bella Dama - both high class Group winners on both sides
of the Tasman. These mares aren't one hit wonders - they have beaten the best that both
Australia and New Zealand have served up to them in the past season.
New Zealanders love Desert Sun, and why wouldn't they! He is the sire of two of
their four best mares at present, as well as numerous other Group winning stars.
While he dazzles in New Zealand we can be assured the
presence of Desert Sun is set to be seen in Australia over the coming seasons. With very
few runners in Australia we have seen many top stakes winning performances.
And a sire of only fillies and mares I can hear you say?
The stakes winning performance of Real Time certainly put paid to that statement. Don't
forget his male runners are proving to be above average in their early careers in
Singapore, Malaysia and surrounding areas in the rich Asian circuit.
Desert Sun is going to hit Adelaide with a bang! His first
offering from Eliza Park Stud is a striking bay colt from the top producing American mare
        Princess Carrie.
A daughter of Lightning Orphan, Princess Carrie was only
lightly raced but did show potential in her initial preparation. But it's as a broodmare
that she has made it. Three of her seven winners are stakes winners - Eyes of a Child,
Coni Bug and Itstimetocelebrate. The latter in turn is the dam of Group winner Roxelana.
Another highlight colt in Adelaide is the offering from
Michelle Johnston, a bay youngster from the winning and stakes placed New Regent mare
        Toolora Twist.
Toolera Twist is a half sister to the former smart Canadian stakes
winner Haliburton Forest, who in turn is the dam of Tatt's Mercedes Benz Stakes winner
        Blalocks Bull.
A half brother to last season's top class three-year-old
filly Shelbourne Lass is also set for sale at the Morphettville Auditorium.
Shelbourne Lass trained on from her Melbourne win as a
two-year-old by winning the Group Three Lakewood Stud Stakes - the first leg of the
Adelaide fillies triple crown. She has also been placed in the Edward Manifold Stakes in
Melbourne and the National Stakes in Adelaide - Group Two and Three races respectively.
Another of the classy Eliza Park draft is a bay colt from
the Buena Shore mare Cloudway. A multiple Brisbane winner of four races, she is better
known as the good producing mare, who's performers on the track include Zephyrz and
        Cloudlet.
Lot 407, the last of the Desert Suns to be offered in the
first two sessions of the sale, a stunning bay colt from Eliza Park is set to come under
the attention of all of the good judges.
A son of the Kenmare winner My Sweet Pamela, he is closely
related to the mighty Keltrice. His fourth dam is the sensational Toltrice and his dam was
herself a stakes placed performer in Melbourne over the carnival. She is a sister to the
South African stakes winner Belle Grise.
One of the better fillies on offer for Desery Sun is
another member of the Eliza Park draft. The filly from French Farce, a dual American
winner, is a half sister to no less than four stakes performers.
Her half sister With Flair is the winner of seven races
including the Group Three Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine, while half brother Martens Pride
is a winner of eleven races, his best being in the listed Bloomington Handicap at
Canterbury. Both Joker's Farce and Paris Tango are stakes performers who were both
        multiple winners at two.
