MIRAAMI (G Chambers) jumped outwards as start effected, coming into
contact with GO BRAGH (S Burrows). Approaching the 1100 metre mark COSSACK VENTURE (D
Turner (a)) who was racing erratically shifted outwards forcing MR. CAGNEY (T Gillett)
onto the heels of LOOK FOR TROUBLE. COSSACK VENTURE hung out from the 700 metre mark to
the 200 metre mark. Jockey G CHAMBERS, rider of MIRAAMI (4th) lodged a protest
against COSSACK VENTURE (D Turner (a)) being placed 3rd for alleged
interference for the last 50 metres of the race. After taking evidence and viewing the
video, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight. Subsequent to the event
it was established that COSSACK VENTURE (D Turner (a)) had shifted in momentarily 50
metres from the Post, but Apprentice TURNER, rider of COSSACK VENTURE had relieved any
pressure immediately. Trainer of COSSACK VENTURE Mr G SEARLE was questioned by Stewards in
regard to the erratic running of COSSACK VENTURE. Mr SEARLE stated that he may have made
an error engaging an apprentice for COSSACK VENTURE and would be using a senior rider on
        the gelding in future.

        (a) rider of HIGHER POWER shifting inwards and ASSIFF (T Gillett) shifting outwards
resulting in PAINTER (T Norton) being momentarily tightened for room. Both D TURNER (a)
rider of HIGHER POWER and T GILLETT rider of ASSIFF were reminded by Stewards of their
obligations when shifting ground and instructed that they must take greater care in
        future.
