RACE 1: 3YO CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200 M 5 STARTERS

GREY DESERT (B Cornell) was slow to begin. GREY DESERT (B Cornell) was momentarily held up for a run at about the 400 metre mark.

1ST GREY DESERT 2ND LA MEXA 3RD COPPER’S EDGE

RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400 M 7 STARTERS

MIRAAMI (G Chambers) jumped outwards as start effected, coming into contact with GO BRAGH (S Burrows). Approaching the 1100 metre mark COSSACK VENTURE (D Turner (a)) who was racing erratically shifted outwards forcing MR. CAGNEY (T Gillett) onto the heels of LOOK FOR TROUBLE. COSSACK VENTURE hung out from the 700 metre mark to the 200 metre mark. Jockey G CHAMBERS, rider of MIRAAMI (4th) lodged a protest against COSSACK VENTURE (D Turner (a)) being placed 3rd for alleged interference for the last 50 metres of the race. After taking evidence and viewing the video, Stewards dismissed the protest and declared correct weight. Subsequent to the event it was established that COSSACK VENTURE (D Turner (a)) had shifted in momentarily 50 metres from the Post, but Apprentice TURNER, rider of COSSACK VENTURE had relieved any pressure immediately. Trainer of COSSACK VENTURE Mr G SEARLE was questioned by Stewards in regard to the erratic running of COSSACK VENTURE. Mr SEARLE stated that he may have made an error engaging an apprentice for COSSACK VENTURE and would be using a senior rider on the gelding in future.

RACE 3: CLASS 6 HANDICAP 1000 METRES 6 STARTERS

No race incidents.

1ST SWITCHBY 2ND GENERAL BEAN 3RD DAVE’S CHANCE

RACE 4: CLASS 2 HANDICAP 11000 M 7 STARTERS

QUEEN’S IMAGE (NZ) (D Oakford (a)) jumped outwards as start effected forcing WORSHIPS A DRINK (G Chambers) onto KUCITE (B Huppatz). Apprentice D OAKFORD (a), rider of QUEEN’S IMAGE (NZ) was informed by Stewards that he must endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course in future.

1ST BY JOE 2ND HE’S TOUGH ENOUGH 3RD QUEEN’S IMAGE (NZ)

RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP 1100 M 8 STARTERS

DREAMGAZER (S Burrows) was slow to begin.

1ST SONIC SWITCH 2ND BLARNEY BOY 3RD ZILLIONAIRE

All winners were swabbed.

SPECIAL

An Inquiry was adjourned from 13.10.01 into an incident at about the 700 metre mark in Race 3 – Class 4 Handicap. Stewards found that the incident was a result of D TURNER (a) rider of HIGHER POWER shifting inwards and ASSIFF (T Gillett) shifting outwards resulting in PAINTER (T Norton) being momentarily tightened for room. Both D TURNER (a) rider of HIGHER POWER and T GILLETT rider of ASSIFF were reminded by Stewards of their obligations when shifting ground and instructed that they must take greater care in future.

FINES

Apprentice D TURNER was fined the sum of $50 under ARR120D – accepting a ride when unable to make the weight (Forever Jude).

Apprentice D TURNER was fined the sum of $50 under ARR145 – weighing in overweight (Scintilator).

Stewards informed Apprentice D TURNER and his Master, Mr G SEARLE that he will not be permitted to accept rides on horses handicapped below 56kg.
