Race 1 - McCormick Harris & Associates Maiden Plate - 1000m

Prior to correct weight L. Dowson rider of Crazy Angel, 5th placegetter, wished to view the Stewards patrol videos and T.V. version before deciding whether to lodge an objection. After viewing the films L. Dowson decided not to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.

When the gates opened Keep Me In Mind was slow to begin.

Near the 600 metres Crazy Angel shifted out slightly and then had to be checked off the heels of Anna Marta, which shifted in slightly.

Stewards questioned R. Martin rider of Keep Me in Mind, 2nd placegetter, regarding him failing to improve his position from the 500 metres until the entrance to the straight. R. Martin stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding off the pace, however he added that he was unable to because his mount was slow to begin. R. Martin also added that he had to ease his mount after passing the 600 metres when interference occurred in front of him. Stewards notified R. Martin that in their opinion he should have made a far greater attempt to improve his position near the 500 metres when he had clear running in front of him.

Race 2 - Central Vic Loss Adjusters SV 2YO F Maiden Plate - 1100m

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight Easter Road was held up when unable to obtain clear run.

Race 3 - Tweed Sutherland First National F & M Maiden Plate - 1600m

Acting on a report from the Starter that Dens Park was unable to be loaded into the barriers, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Dens Park at 1.51 p.m. Subsequent to the race Stewards ordered the following betting deductions - All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Dens Park to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of Dens Park are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket. Win Bets - 8 cents, Place Bets - 8 cents, Winning Concession Bets - 8 cents, Double Bets - 8 cents. All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket. Mr. L. Treloar trainer of Dens Park was notified that the filly was now suspended from racing for a period until it performs to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a trial, at which time he must also obtain a Barrier Test Certificate.

When the gates opened Delightful Attire was slow to begin.

In the early stages of the race Kaarla raced ungenerously.

Race 4 - Dunlop & Pitson Earthmoving SV 3YO Class 1 Handicap - 1400m

Prior to correct weight M. Pegus, rider of Texas Blues (NZ), 5th placegetter, wished to view the Stewards patrol videos of the straight before deciding whether to lodge an objection. After viewing the videos M. Pegus decided not to proceed with an objection and correct weight was declared.

Throughout the race Desert Falcon hung in.

Approaching the winning post Texas Blues (NZ), which shifted in, had to be eased off the heels of Hurricane Vic.

Also approaching the winning post She's Archie had difficulty in obtaining a run between Ruanaidh and Hurricane Vic.

Race 5 - Gillies Country Bakers Class 6 Handicap - 1600m

When the gates opened Aerolon was slow to begin.

Race 6 - Penang Turf Club Class 2 Handicap - 1600m

Near the 200 metres Super Dollar (NZ) had some difficulty in obtaining a clear run.

Race 7 - Gillies Famous Pies Class 3 Handicap - 1100m

No report.

Race 8 - Access Fuel Bendigo Class 1 Handicap - 1300m

Shortly after the start Gostani had to be checked when tightened for room between Snow Ballet and Thornboy, which shifted out slightly.

FINES & EXPLANATIONS

Stewards accepted the explanation offered by Mr. J. O'Keefe, part owner trainer of Gryphon (Race 6) regarding his late notification of a rider.

B. Rawiller rider of El Illusion (Race 3) was fined the sum of $200 for unnecessary use of the whip on a beaten horse.
