Weather: Overcast
Rail: Out 4 metres between the 1000 to 300 metres.

RACE 1 – YALUMBA / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1411 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to allow G. Dorol, rider of 3rd Placegetter ZIPPA RAJA, to view the Official Stewards Patrol film between the 1000 metres to the 700 metres. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

ROISTER (C. Lever) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres BLUE BUBBLE (C. Lindop) shifted in and as a result ZIPPA RAJA (G. Dorol) was inconvenienced and also shifted in and brushed TREELINE (S. Price), which was racing greenly.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres ROISTER (C. Lever) shifted in slightly onto ZIPPA RAJA (G. Dorol), which was racing greenly and shifted in onto TIONA (J. O’Connor), resulting in that horse having to be steadied.

Inside the 200 metres LEICA MINE (J. Holder) shifted out and inconvenienced CARNATIC (P. Gatt), which was also inclined to lay in.

RACE 2 – WOODSTOCK MAIDEN PLATE – 1211 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to allow C. Bryant, rider of the 4th Placegetter LORD ROYDON, to view the Official Stewards Parol film in the vicinity of the 800 metres. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

LORD ROYDON (C. Bryant) jumped away awkwardly and as a result lost some ground.

ANGELAQ (D. Tootell) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres MATTERHORN (Darren Holland) had to be steadied from the heels of SOUTHERN SPUR (B. Grimston) after being taken out by MASH UNIT (W. Kerford). W. Kerford was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres SAPRISTI (NZ) (S. Price) shifted in, resulting in SPORTING JESTER (M. Neilson) being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres SOUTHERN SPUR (B. Grimston) shifted in onto COUPE DE BLU (J. Bowditch), which in turn shifted in and tightened LORD ROYDON (C. Bryant), resulting in that gelding having to be checked.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres SOUTHERN SPUR (B. Grimston) shifted in and tightened COUPE DE BLU (J. Bowditch), which had to be checked and as a result LORD ROYDON (C. Bryant), MASH UNIT (W. Kerford), SPORTING JESTER (M. Neilson) and DALNY ROAD (P. Gatt) were all inconvenienced. After causing interference at the 800 and 700 metres B. Grimston was severely reprimanded and advised that in future when placed in a similar situation he must exercise more control over his mounts.

SOUTHERN SPUR lost its near hind plate during running.

DALNY ROAD suffered with a laceration to the off side cannon bone during the event.

RACE 3 – TROJAN WORKFORCE RECRUITMENT 2YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1611 metres

ROSEWIN was withdrawn by Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice, at 1.09 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on ROSEWIN be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 2 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 2 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are not subject to the deductions.

At the start RIP ‘EM OFF (Darren Holland) jumped out onto ZACCIO DAN (NZ) (S. Cahill), which in turn shifted out and bumped ON THE NATCH (B. Vale), which shifted out onto PHANTASMIC (J. Holder). In the incident ZACCIO DAN (NZ) and ON THE NATCH were inconvenienced and lost some ground.

In the vicinity of the 1400 metres SMYTZER’S TARO (W. Kerford), which was racing keenly, had to be steadied from the heels of VIGNOR (P. Gatt) and as a result shifted out and bumped CEREMONIAL EVENT (C. Lever), which became unbalanced, shifted out and brushed FULFILMENT (J. Maund).

In the vicinity of the 300 metres VIGNOR (P. Gatt) was momentarily disappointed for a run and shifted out across the heels of PATAGONIA (D. Tootell), which shifted in.

RACE 4 – JASOL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1211 metres

Mr. D. Halliday was fined $50 for the late declaration of T. Creek as the rider of LEMOXIE.

VILLAGE BOY dislodged its rider J. Potter en route to the barrier and galloped riderless for some distance before being recaptured. VILLAGE BOY was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who declared the gelding fit to start.

LEMONADE PARADE (D. Tootell) jumped out at the start; at the same as SUNTURWASI (C. Lindop) jumped in. As a result, CLOSE IMITATION (C. Lever), VILLAGE BOY (J. Potter) and PRINCESS NICKY (J. Maund), which were all between those two horses, were inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres VILLAGE BOY (J. Potter) shifted in and as a result POLONAISE (P. Gatt) was obliged to shift in and steady off the heels of CLOSE IMITATION (C. Lever). J. Potter was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

CLOSE IMITATION suffered a laceration to the off hind fetlock during the race.

RACE 5 – ARISTOCRAT CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1611 metres

No report.

RACE 6 – AUSTRALIAN HOTELS ASSOCIATION CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1056 metres

Mr. W. Lewis, representing Mr. M. Lewis Trainer of SCARLET, was fined $50 under ARR 59A, when he was unable to produce the Document of Description for the filly. As Stewards were able to confirm the filly’s identity from their records, the filly was permitted to start.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres MONDO ROCK (J. Bowditch) shifted in and bumped SCENICNICK (C. Bryant), resulting in that filly becoming unbalanced, shifting in and brushing CROWNED LOVE (P. Gatt). Shortly after ADEL MARIE (M. Neilson) shifted in and brushed MONDO ROCK (J. Bowditch).

In the vicinity of the 400 metres EL VANA (J. Maund) and MONDO ROCK (J. Bowditch) bumped. Shortly after EL VANA shifted in and brushed TAGO (B. Vale).

EL VANA (J. Maund) showed a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.

Subsequent to the race the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon reported that MONDO ROCK was exhibiting signs of soreness in both forelegs and had an unusual action in its near hind leg.

RACE 7 – COOPERS CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1211 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to allow W. Kerford, rider of the 2nd Placegetter CLASSY LOOKER, to view the Official Stewards Patrol film over the concluding stages. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

The start was delayed when SHANICITY (NZ) (P. Gatt) proved difficult to load. Mr. A. McEvoy, Trainer of SHANICITY (NZ), was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to its barrier manners.

SHANICITY (NZ) (P. Gatt) knuckled badly at the start and almost dislodged its rider.

BEVAN (S. Price) was slow to begin and raced wide throughout the event.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres ZAHEEM (A. Stead) shifted in and bumped SHANICITY (NZ) (P. Gatt), which in turn shifted in and bumped GATTON (C. Lindop). In the incident SHANICITY (NZ) and GATTON became unbalanced for a short distance.

A. Stead was reminded of his obligations when riding his mounts out to the line.

RACE 8 – SKY CHANNEL / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1411 metres

WOODPECKER (B. Vale) and SOACE (D. Tootell) bumped at the start.

SOACE lost its near fore plate in running.
