        weakening had to be checked when tightened for room between "Go Shorty" and
        "Calcavecchia" which shifted out slightly to avoid the heels of
        "Skaddam" which was weakening. On jumping the hurdle near the 800 metres the first time
        "Melody Mac" shifted out and hampered "King Artaius". Approaching the 200 metres "Mighty Macarno" was
        tightened for room between "Go Shorty" and "King Artaius" which
        shifted out.  After jumping the last hurdle "King Artaius"
        broke down and was pulled up by J. Evans the rider of the gelding. Race 2 -BOUNTY MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1400 Metres:  Near the 1000 metres "Cold Duck" and "Liquid
        Steel (NZ)" raced tightly for some distance between ""Nearly Home" and
        "Mooktamonte". Race 3 -MILKY WAY MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1400 Metres:  After passing the 200 metres "Our Contessina"
        became unbalanced and shifted in away from "Avante Garde" and inconvenienced
        "Ruby Boy". Acting on a report from the starter that "Our
        Contessina" had proven difficult to load into the barriers, the stewards notified
        Miss. M.Keagan trainer of the mare that an official warning would be placed on "Our
        Contessina" and she must produce a barrier test certificate in respect of the mare
        prior to the it racing again. Race 4 -SNICKERS SUPER VOBIS 3-Y-O MAIDEN PLATE -
        1000 Metres: "Haunted" was slow to begin. On jumping away "Our Jugah" was tightened for
        room between "Ruby Lips" and "Silver Birch" due to both horses
        shifting ground. Shortly after the start "Our Jugah" had to be
        checked when tightened for room between "Ruby Lips" and "Silver Birch"
        which continued to shift in. Approaching the 600 metres "Our Jugah" had to be
        eased to avoid the heels of "Haunted" which hung in. "Haunted" hung in
        for the remainder of the race. Race 5 - M&M'S CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 Metres:
         Approaching the 800 metres "Stormin' Abassi" had
        to be checked severely when tightened for room by "Bay Heart" (G. Murphy) which
        when hanging in shifted in abruptly. The stewards accepted that "Bay Heart" was
        hanging in however notified G. Murphy that he must do his upmost to protect his fellow
        riders when in similar circumstance in future. "Bay Heart" continued to hang in for the
        remainder of the race. Race 6 - MARS KIDS DAY OUT OPEN HANDICAP - 1000
        Metres:  No Report Race 7 - MALTESERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1400 Metres:
         Shortly after the start "Athapascan Storm" was
        hampered when tightened for room between "Thriller In Manila" and "Just In
        Case" which was taken out slightly by "Sparring Partner". Passing the 200 metres "Just In Case",
        "Thriller in Manila" and "Saramen" were tightened for room between
        "Sparring Partner and "Thriller In Manila" which was taken out by
        "Oompaloompa". Approaching the winning post "Saramen" had to be
        eased when tightened for room between "Sparring Partner" which shifted in
        slightly and "Thriller in Manila" which shifted out away from
        "Oompaloompa".  Race 8 - SKITTLES CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 2200 Metres:  A veterinary examination subsequent to the race of
        "Fergus My Boy" which had performed below exportations failed to reveal any
        abnormities. On the home turn "All Black Symphony" had to be
        eased to avoid the heels of "Nasqueyo" (S Vella) which shifted in. S. Vella was
        reprimanded and notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Race 9 - TWIX FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 HANDICAP -
        1200:  On arrival at the barrier "Millvina" which was
        kicked by another runner was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to
        run. "Bread Maker" jumped away awkwardly and lost
        ground. SWAB SAMPLES - Swab samples were taken from
        the following horses: Race 1 - Mighty Macarno Race 2 - Sovereign Swamp Race 4 - Seddenga Race 9 - Classic Jewel PRE-RACE BLOOD SAMPLES Pre-race blood samples were taken from six horses for post
        race analysis. FINES AND EXPLANATIONS Mr. R W Smerdon trainer of "The Duce" was fined
        $30 for using the wrong colours on the gelding. |
