Bordertown (SA) - Saturday 22 September 2001

Track: Good
Weather: Overcast/Showery
Rail: Normal Position

RACE 1 – TATIARA TRADERS CLASS D HANDICAP

HEADACHE (M. Hagley) and MONDERWYK (S. Harrison) bumped together shortly after the start.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres BRUEGHELDANCER (T. Barras) commenced to race ungenerously.

RACE 2 – SMOKE-FREE / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE

A swab sample was taken from CLASSIC WHITE, winner of the race.

H. McKechnie, rider of the third placegetter HEALY’S COMET, lodged an objection against GARNET (J. Burgess) being declared the second placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference in the vicinity of the 800 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, on their own observations and on viewing the official video film of the race, Stewards dismissed H. McKechnie’s objection. H. McKechnie was advised by Stewards that her objection was bordering on being deemed frivolous.

CHEEKY ROSIE (G. Hoobin) was slow to begin and after showing a reluctance to race, was pulled up 100 metres after the start. Mr. A. Opperman, trainer of CHEEKY ROSIE, was informed that the filly was now banned from racing for a period until it can trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an organised barrier trial.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres BROCCI (C. Bryant) shifted in and as a result DANGER CHARGER (T. Barras) was inconvenienced. C. Bryant was advised by Stewards of his obligations when his mounts commence to shift ground.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres GARNET (J. Burgess) shifted out to avoid the heels of RUBIREIGN (J. Potter), which had eased after reaching the lead, and as a result HEALY’S COMET (H. McKechnie) was inconvenienced. J. Potter was advised of his obligations under similar circumstances.

RACE 3 – BORDERTOWN HOTEL DISTANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP

Acting on confirmed veterinary advice that ETTAMOGAH LAD was not fit to take its place in the field, that gelding was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.30 pm.

JET RACER (NZ) (M. Neilson) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start WHY RITA (C. Puls) commenced to hang out for approximately 500 metres.

YOUNG BEAUTY (T. Barras) was inconvenienced by WHY RITA (C. Puls), which was showing a tendency to hang out, in the vicinity of the turn out of the straight on the first occasion.

M. Hagley, rider of LUCENTIER, was advised by Stewards to keep her mounts straight when under riding.

RACE 4 – MGA NSURANCE FLYING HANDICAP

J. Potter, rider of the fourth placed MARKADA, was fined the sum of $100 under ARR 144.

RACE 5 – FUELINK / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE

BEAUQUEST, which dislodged its rider M. Munday and galloped riderless from the racecourse, was withdrawn by Stewards at 4.07 pm. Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on BEAUQUEST be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 19 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 16 cents in the dollar.

A swab sample was taken from MISS REVIC, winner of the race.

INIMITABLE (T. Barras) knuckled shortly after the start.

TASHILADO (J. O’Connor) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres TARCOOLA JACK (S. Harrison) had to ease when LOLA (M. Henderson) shifted in abruptly. M. Henderson was severely reprimanded and informed by Stewards to given horses on his inside the room to which they are entitled.
