 Supplementary Report -
Thursday 11 April 2002 - Canterbury Park - Race 2 - Industrial Services Group Superfecta (1100m): Trainer Mr D.P.Smith advised that
following Magic Answer's disappointing run the filly was found to be mildly shin sore, an
endoscopic examination had revealed no abnormality, and he had decided to spell her. Race 1 - Argos Handicap 1200m Near the 600m Launch got its head up when being checked off
the heels of Brimley. High Maintenance, which was following, in turn had to be checked off
the heels of Launch, and in doing so shifted in and crowded Gaytime. High Maintenance then
shifted out and took Misprint wide, and then hung out until entering the straight. Gaytime
was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Race 2 - Rhodos Handicap 1900m No report. Race 3 - Samos Handicap 1100m De Valmont was slow to begin. Call The Shot was held up for
clear running until near the 200m. When asked about the disappointing performance of
Ziegfeld, D.Mclellan said the gelding travelled well until the 500m but did not respond to
his riding from that point and was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination
revealed no abnormality. Trainer Mr T.Martin said Ziegfeld had experienced hoof troubles
in the past but had no problems in the lead-up to today's race. He added that the gelding
had worked exceptionally well and therefore he did not consider it necessary to trial him
before today's race. Mr Martin added that Ziegfeld had been strongly fancied by the stable
and he could offer no excuse for today's performance. Mr Martin said he intends to enter
Ziegfeld in a weaker country race, and undertook to report on the gelding's progress in
the days subsequent to the race. Race 4 - Lemnos Superfecta 1200m Arathea was slow to begin. Shortly after the start
Flareon was hampered when Bonsoir shifted out slightly. For some distance approaching the
first turn Figuretta raced fiercely and had to check off the heels of Southern Regard; and
then making the first turn shifted out, taking Bonsoir and Dressed in Seattle wide.
Shortly after entering the straight Minelli was checked when disappointed for a run
between Oakfield Duchess and Wedding Belle. Minelli was then unable to obtain clear
running for the remainder of the event. Snaatic and Royal Magenta were unable to obtain
clear running at any stage in the straight. Race 5 - Corfu Handicap 1550m The start was delayed when Pink 'N' Black required farrier
attention in the saddling enclosure. When asked about the disappointing performance of
Oakburn, C.Munce said that after having to use his mount in the early stages to find a
position, the gelding was inclined to lay in throughout the event, and in his opinion was
most disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary
examination of Oakburn revealed no abnormality. Race 6 - Springtime Greek Glendi Cup 1250m Trinity Miss slipped at the start and shifted in,
hampering Brisanna, which had been slow to begin. M. de Montfort explained that when he
attempted to settle Trinity Miss passing the 1,000m his saddle shifted forward, which
resulted in him being unable to control the filly. As a result, at the 700m Trinity Miss
shifted in and Sassi Switch was checked. M. de Montfort said that Trinity Miss then rolled
out passing the 500m and when he attempted to correct the filly she shifted back in,
resulting in Sassi Switch again being checked. M. de Montfort added that Trinity Miss
shifted ground on a number of occasions in the straight and badly hampered Sassi Switch at
the 200m. As this was the second consecutive occasion on which the saddle had shifted
forward on Trinity Miss, trainer Mr G.Walter will |
