No Riding Changes

Race 1 - HYDERABAD RACE CLUB HANDICAP - 1600 metres: In the early part of the straight Blue Marwina was held up for a run. "Blue Marwina" shifted to the outside of "Change of Control" near the 200 metres. "Change of Control" hung in under pressure in the straight approaching the winning post and shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip. "Change of Control" made contact with the hindquarters of "Blue Marwina" and both horses became unbalanced.

Reece Wheeler, rider of "The Ex Files" stated that the mare did not stretch out at any stage of the race and something may be amiss. A examination by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon revealed that "The Ex Files" was short in its action in front.

Race 2 - VEUVE CLICQUOT STAKES - 1100 metres: "Oronoko" knuckled on jumping away and was tightened for room between "Yell" and "French Terror" which shifted out.

Near the 800 metres "Wonder Worker" which had a tendency to lay out, was checked off the heels of "Our Webster" which was taken in slightly by "Innovation Girl".

Rounding the home turn and in the straight "Innovation Girl" hung out under pressure. Approaching the winning post "Innovation Girl" shifted out from "Yell" which shifted out under pressure.

Race 3 - SELANGOR TURF CLUB HANDICAP - 1800 metres: "Hercules Morse (NZ)" which was restless in the stalls, was slow to begin and was then hampered shortly after the start when "Eagle Rhythm (NZ)" shifted out.

Reece Wheeler, rider of "Bunfight" was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in approaching and passing the 1400 metres when not sufficiently clear of "Eagle Rhythm" resulting in that gelding being tightened for room.

When asked for an explanation of "Bunfight" performing below expectation, the geldings rider Reece Wheeler stated "Bunfight" had a tendency to lay out throughout the race and did not feel comfortable in the going. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormality.

Race 4 - SANDOWN PARK (UK) STAKES - 1200 metres: The start of the race was delayed due to "Firm" being re-plated at the barrier.

"Lady Mulroy" bounded in the air on jumping away and lost ground. "Ansami" was also slow to begin.

Near the 200 metres "Keltic Verse" which was giving ground was hampered when tightened between Speaker and "Li Lo Lill" which was making ground and shifted away from "Firm" after being initially taken out by that filly which changed course to avoid the heels of Fair Embrace which shifted in.

Danny Nikolic rider of Li Lo Lill was reprimanded and told to use more care in the future.

Prior to correct weight Darren Gauci, rider of second placegetter "Firm" viewed the Stewards' Patrol video and decided not to lodge a protest against the winner "Fair Embrace".

Glen Boss rider of Keltic Verse which performed below expectations stated that the filly did not handle the track conditions at any stage of the race.

Race 5 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CARLYON CUP - 1600 metres:

"Market Price" had to be eased off the heels of "Bush Padre" who shifted out approaching the winning post.

Race 6 - C.F. ORR STAKES - 1400 metres: Northerly, which reared over in the parade ring was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run. Northerly was again examined at the barrier.

Acting on a report from the analyst regarding an irregularity in the pre-race blood sample taken from "Northerly", the Stewards questioned Mr. Fred Kersley trainer of "Northerly". Mr Kersley assured the Stewards that "Northerly" had not been treated with any prohibited substances and there was no change to "Northerly's" feeding regime leading up to todays race. As the analyst was uncertain as to cause of the irregularity the Stewards permitted "Northerly" to start and ordered a swab sample be taken subsequent to the event.

"Northerly" hung in under pressure and near the winning post tightened "Chattanooga" onto "Cent Home (NZ)".

Race 7 - JRA STAKES - 1100 metres: In the straight "Desert Sky" when making ground shifted in and had to be checked off the heels of "Go On Spending".

Brett Prebble, rider of "Desert Sky" explained that he restrained the gelding in the early stages of the race as it was the intention to ride "Desert Sky" off the pace. Prebble added that "Desert Sky" had hung out in the early stages of races previously and after jumping out the gelding shifted out and he believed it may hang again today. Prebble stated that due to restraining the gelding in the manner that he did, he got further out of his ground than was his intention.

During the running of the race "Joie" suffered a bleeding attack.

Race 8 - WELLINGTON RACING CLUB HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. John Collins, trainer of Desert Arrow (NZ), who stated that the gelding injured his off foreleg and was unfit to run, the Stewards withdrew the gelding at 11.15 a.m. Mr. Collins must produce a Veterinary Certificate in respect of the gelding being unfit to run. Mr. Collins must also produce a Veterinary Clearance prior to Desert Arrow (NZ) racing again.

A veterinary examination of Much Coveted which weakened from the home turn revealed no abnormality.

SWAB SAMPLES -Swab samples were taken from all winners today and from "Northerly" second placegetter in the C. F. Orr Stakes.
