 Riding Changes: Nil Race 1 - NORMAN NELSON HANDICAP - 1100 metres:
         Prior to this event an amended stable return was received
        for "Kelshiki" showing B. R. Tassell, B. G. Crowley, D. R. Withers, K. J.
        Elkington, Accrued Total Syndicate (Mgr. D. Romanelli), P. A. Jillard and W. G. Gibson as
        nominators of the gelding.  "Our Lady Eli (NZ)" was reluctant to stretch out
        in the early stages, and hung in. Race 2 - PARIS HANDICAP - 2419 metres:  No report. Race 3 - CARDINIA SUPER VOBIS HANDICAP - 1200
        metres:  Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the unruly
        behaviour of "Greenstone" when being placed in its starting stall, the Stewards
        notified Mr. W. Hawkes, who was representing his father, Mr. J. Hawkes, trainer, that
        should the filly behave in a similar manner in future more severe action may be taken
        against it. Mr. Hawkes was further notified that prior to "Greenstone" racing
        again he must be in receipt of a barrier test certificate for it. "Jayjaye (NZ)" was slow to begin. Shortly after the start "Sinner" and
        "Mintaka" were inconvenienced when tightened for room between "Bimbo
        Limbo" and "Fairbit", which shifted in. A. Findlay, rider of
        "Fairbit", was notified to ensure that he is clear of other runners when
        shifting ground. "Secret Desire" had a tendency to lay in under
        pressure in the straight, and approaching the winning post had to be steadied off the
        heels of "Greenstone". Race 4 - THE FRANK ELLIS PLATE - 1600 metres:
         In the early stages of the race the saddle on
        "Charlann" shifted forward, which inconvenienced Craig Newitt, the rider of the
        mare, for the remainder of the race. "Charlann" suffered a bleeding attack during the
        running of the race. As this is the second occasion on which "Charlann" has
        suffered a bleeding attack, the mare is now barred from racing. Race 5 - ST. KEVINS COLLEGE PLATE - 1600
        metres:  Near the 1300 metres "The Doctor's Son" shifted
        in, clipped the heels of "Candana Lad (NZ)", and almost fell. "Cherak
        (NZ)", which was on the inside of "The Doctor's Son", was hampered. Race 6 - SWISSE VITAMINS CUP - 1000 metres:
         At the entrance to the straight "Strategic Hit"
        had to be eased off the heels of "Quaytman", which shifted out to obtain a run. Race 7 - LE PINE FUNERAL SERVICES HANDICAP -
        1400 metres:  "La Monja" was slow to begin.  Race 8 - ESKDALE HANDICAP - 1200 metres:  "Rhone Valley" jumped away awkwardly. SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of
        all races today. FINES/EXPLANATIONS:  Mr. C. Pirotta, trainer of "Beccorino", was fined
        $50 for presenting the horse in the mounting yard without a nose roll. (Race 5.) Mr. R. Hore-Lacy, trainer of "Tennessee Spur
        (NZ)", was fined $50 for presenting the filly in the mounting yard with blinkers when
        it is not a blinkered horse. (Race 7.) |
