 Supplementary Report -
Warwick Farm Saturday 2 February 2002: Race 6 - Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) Trainer Mrs G.Waterhouse reported that an endoscopic
examination of Ha Ha subsequent to the race had revealed no abnormality, but that she
intends to have a blood test done before deciding whether to barrier trial the filly at
Rosehill on Tuesday 5 February. Race 7 - Billy Cook Handicap (1600m) The stewards today questioned jockey C.Brown and trainer Mr
J.Pride about the disappointing performance of Conjuror. C.Brown said his mount was
inclined to over-race in the early stages, but once he obtained cover Conjuror settled and
travelled reasonably well until prior to the home turn, at which point the gelding
commenced to give ground rapidly. Mr Pride said that although Conjuror was up in grade
compared with its two most recent wins he had expected a more forward showing and was most
disappointed in the gelding's run. He said that a post-race examination by the stable
veterinarian had revealed no abnormality, but that he intended to have a blood test done,
the results of which he will report to the stewards. He added that he will experiment with
a tongue tie in trackwork. Racing changes: As A.Robinson and D.McLellan were
indisposed, the following substitutions were approved:R.M.Quinn on Cheyenne Silver in race 1 (for A.Robinson); and B.York on Royal
Purler in race 1, D.Beasley on Time and Change in race 4; C.Munce on Burgundian
Red in race 8 (for D.Mclellan). When L.Cassidy was indisposed after race 3, the
following substitutions were approved: C.Brown on Autumn Night in race 7 and
R.M.Quinn on Daunting Prospect in race 8.
Race 1 - Kymberly Sharp Handicap (1200m) Squish and Hierogram were slow to begin. Rounding the home turn Royal Purler shifted out and in
doing so made contact with Blue Style on a number of occasions, resulting in that runner
being taken out and in Hierogram being hampered. Race 2 - Ryan Booker Handicap (1200m) Passing the 700m Orekamay was hampered when Torlina shifted
out marginally when being checked off the heels of Marscay Image. At the entrance to the straight Orekamay was hampered when
Torlina was taken out by Minelli, which shifted out to obtain clear running. A New Song was briefly held up in the early part of the
straight. When questioned about the improved performance of Marscay
Image trainer Mrs G.Waterhouse was unable to offer any explanation for the mare's most
recent failures other than that at its last start, at Randwick on Monday 28 January, it
may not have handled the all-weather track. She said she had decided to back up Marscay
Image today despite its recent performances, but if it had not performed well today she
would have sent it for a spell. Race 3 - Megan Muller Handicap (1100m) Perfect Prince (L.Cassidy) reared in the barrier and
struck its head, dislodging a tooth. Acting on veterinary advice the stewards ordered the
withdrawal of the gelding at 1.54 pm. They subsequently ordered that all bets made on
Perfect Prince be refunded in full, and that all successful bets be paid subject to the
following deductions in the dollar: win 8c, place 8c, quinellas 16c and multiple doubles
8c. L.Cassidy was subsequently stood down by the Club's doctor for his remaining
engagements. Just Play was very slow to begin. Mr. Hollywood was crowded at the start between Hermit and
Full on Magic, which was taken out by Spent The Rent. Making the first turn Blinder got its head up, shifted in
and made contact with the running rail. Passing the 600m Supreme Riffs had to be steadied to avoid
the heels of Spent The Rent (P.Losh), which shifted in. P.Losh was told to exercise more
care. Jai's Jump was badly held up for a run in the early part of
the straight when disappointed for a run between Hermit and Poetic Papal. In the straight, Benmurhar had to be steadied to avoid the
heels of Spy's Eclipse (P.Falvey), which shifted out to obtain clear running. P.Falvey was
told to exercise more care. Near the 100m Jai's Jump (B.York) was obliged to stop
riding his mount when Poetic Papal was taken in by Full of Magic (H.Bowman), which shifted
in under pressure. H.Bowman was reprimanded. As a result, Jai's Jump was unable to be
ridden out for the remainder of the race. When asked about Supreme Riffs being ridden back in the
field, B.Pengelly said that at its most recent start the gelding led but did not finish
off its race, and as it was thought there would be some speed in this race it had been
decided to ride the gelding off the pace. Trainer Mr T.Edmonds was reminded of his
obligation to inform the stewards of any change of riding tactics. Race 4 - Holly Booker Superfecta (1100m) The start was delayed when Telling Blow had to receive
farrier attention behind the barrier. Passing the 1000m Telling Blow was checked when crowded
between Never on Sunday, which shifted out slightly and made contact with Telling Blow,
and Storm Grass C.Munce), which shifted in. C.Munce was reprimanded and told to ensure he
is two lengths clear before shifting. Select Addition and Final Catch were slow to begin. Making the first turn Never on Sunday had to be steadied
when Night Before Dawn shifted in. Near the 500m Count Albrecht was crowded between Never on
Sunday and Café Success, which was inclined to lay out. Count Albrecht had some difficulty obtaining a clear run in
the early part of the straight. Over the concluding stages C.Brown was obliged to stop
riding Night Before Dawn to prevent the gelding shifting in and crowding Café Success,
which was racing tight to his inside. Race 5 - Matthew Lancaster Handicap (1250m) For a short distance after the start Dudley Do Right
attempted to buck and became unbalanced. Trainer Mr P.Tagg was told that a warning had
been placed on the gelding's racing manners. Passing the 700m Dudley Do Right had to be checked off the
heels of Noble Dragon. M.Usher (Dudley Do Right) said that his mount laid in in
the straight, resulting in his having difficulty riding the gelding out. Trainer Mr P.Tagg told stewards he will experiment with
blinkers prior to Dudley Do Right racing again. Crop shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 6 - Mikaela Conners Handicap (1550m) Idominate hung out rounding the turn at the 1100m. In the early part of the straight Kazzaam was held up for a
run and The Moonster was crowded when held up behind J'Amuse and inside Opponent. The
Moonster was then unable to obtain clear running until passing the 100m. In the presence of his master, trainer Mr R.Thomsen,
App.R.Brewer (Kazzaam) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the
100m he directed his mount out from behind Abstained when there was insufficient room, and
in doing so caused Paraway to be checked when taken out onto the hindquarters of Sporran,
which became unbalanced. App.Brewer's licence to ride in races was suspended from 13
February until 28 February, on which day he may ride, and App. Brewer was fined $700. Race 7 - Rebecca Lancaster Handicap (1250m) Salty Sal and Puzzle Book bumped at the start. Hello Pamela knuckled over badly at the start, resulting in
rider App.S.Pollard being dislodged. Near the 800m Balgold had to be checked when Gahela Baby
was taken in by the riderless Hello Pamela. Near the 600m God Love It was severely checked when
hampered by the riderless Hello Pamela, and Gahela Baby had to be checked off the heels of
God Love It. Whistle Dixie raced greenly in the early and middle stages.
A post-race examination revealed Salty Sal to be sore in
front. Trainer Mrs G.Waterhouse will be asked to produce a veterinary clearance before
Salty Sal races again. Race 8 - Clarinda Gage Superfecta (1900m) Daunting Prospect, which broke through its barrier, was
recaptured and passed fit to start. Passing the winning post the first time, Burgundian Red got
its head up when being steadied off the heels of Damah Lady. Burgundian Red was held up rounding the home turn and in
the early part of the straight. Approaching the 200m Balidor was awkwardly placed close to
the heels of Arkadina. J.Cassidy reported that Joshua Michael laid out throughout
the event and proved difficult to ride, and in his opinion did not feel right in its
action. A post-race veterinary examination of Joshua Michael revealed no obvious
abnormality. Veterinary examinations of Daunting Prospect, which
weakened after travelling wide, and Broccae, which finished at the rear of the field,
revealed no abnormality. Summary Fines: Race 6: R.Brewer $700 (and suspended) Reprimands: Race 3: H.Bowman (Full on Magic) was
reprimanded for shifting when not clear. |
