        Fine Track: Good
Supplementary Report: Royal Randwick Saturday 6 April 2002: Race 1 Safilo
Handicap 1000m: Trainer Mr T. Donnelly tonight advised that Al Sakeb had
been spelled following its disappointing performance. RACE 1: MAA Arrive Alive Handicap 1900m After initially being taken in by Ares, Thundercup had to
be checked near the 250m when Zumdinger (App. C. Karakatsanis) shifted out. App.
Karakatsanis was reprimanded and advised that he would be expected to react quicker than
he did on this occasion to relieve tightening. When questioned concerning Pretty Woman
racing back in the field, D. Beadman stated that he was under instructions to find cover
with the filly, but he elected to follow Ares early rather than to risk Pretty Woman
overracing, particularly as it was racing in blinkers for the first time. When questioned
concerning Ares racing further back today, C. Brown stated that he had been instructed to
endeavour to race in the box seat, but when the tempo was good early he did not bustle
Ares, and as a result Thundercup dropped into the one-out line in front of him, which
placed him a little further back than he had wished. RACE 2: Industrial Services Group Superfecta 1100m Double Down knuckled over on jumping. When questioned,
        C. Brown (Magic Answer) stated that his mount did not feel right in its action throughout
the event and raced disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Magic
Answer to be displaying a cough. Trainer Mr D. Smith was advised that he must produce the
results of a full veterinary check, including the results of an endoscopic examination,
before Magic Answer is permitted to race again. RACE 3: Astor Base Metals Handicap 1200m App. R. Brewer (Fouad) was reprimanded for continuing to
ride when his mount was shifting in at the start and hampering Grand Warrior, which was
slightly slow to begin. When questioned regarding Boot 'N' Scoot racing further back in
the field, D. Beadman stated that whilst his instructions had been to be in the first two
or three, he was aware that Boot 'N' Scoot had been barred on two occasions for hanging
out and when trapped without cover he elected to ease back, but was unable to do so when
Grand Warrior improved to his inside, which resulted in Boot 'N' Scoot racing further back
than he had wished. RACE 4: TV Week Handicap 1550m Think On was a late withdrawal at 1.36pm on veterinary
advice. Dasher jumped awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination of Able Mr. Jif
revealed no abnormality. RACE 5: South Sydney Juniors Plate 1900m Jimmy The Bear broke through the barriers necessitating
it being examined and reloaded. Surf, which was slow to begin, had to be checked shortly
after the start when Eugene shifted out. Approaching the first turn Prime Target, which
was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of Optimax. At the 700m Beatnik was
tightened for room between Eugene and Barry's Pal, which shifted in slightly. Eugene had
some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight and over the
concluding stages shifted out and made contact with Miss Anna Louise. RACE 6: Thomas Group Hotels Handicap 1200m Cognac Trader, which was very fractious in the stalls,
was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 9.47pm when that horse was found to have sustained
an injury to the head with blood evident in the right nostril. The Stewards directed that
all bets on Cognac Trader be refunded and that there be no other alteration to betting. Mr
Cummings, representing trainer Mr B. Cummings, was advised that Cognac Trader must barrier
trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before it is permitted to race again. At the
250m Prince Of Play had to be checked when held up on the heels of Poetic Papal. A short
distance later State Senator (D. Beasley) shifted in resulting in Citi Fella having to be
checked when disappointed for a run between State Senator and Poetic Papal. State Senator
continued to shift in resulting in Poetic Papal being taken in causing Prince Of Play to
again be checked. Prince Of Play then did not obtain clear running and was not able to be
tested over the concluding stages. D. Beasley was reprimanded and advised that in similar
circumstances he must make more effort to keep his mounts straight. RACE 7: Kaizen Security Superfecta 1200m Trainer Mr R. Boljun was fined $50 for presenting Missile
Sam in the enclosure with blinkers, which were not part of its declared gear (AR8(e)).
Blue Suttarb was slow to begin. SUMMARY Fines: Race 7: Trainer R. Boljun (Missile Sam) fined $50 - present horse with gear not approved
