 Supplementary Report:Royal Randwick Saturday 16 February 2002
Race 2: Qantas Chris Whitaker Handicap 1400m: Mr F. W. Mitchell, represented by stable foreman Mr J.
Thompson, was fined $200 for presenting and racing Argentina in blinkers, gear which had
not been declared (AR8(e)). Race 4: Qantas Airways Wiggle Quality 1400m Mr M. Lees, trainer of Gwendolyn, which raced
disappointingly, reported that a full veterinary check had revealed the mare to have an
elevated white cell count indicative of an infection for which it has subsequently been
treated. Gwendolyn will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards
prior to its next race start. Race 8: Qantas Holidays Handicap 2000m Trainer Mr G. Begg reported that Lion Rock would now be
spelled. RACE 1: 2002 AAMI Golden Slipper Ball Handicap 1100m Shehaab reared in the stalls and became cast over the
near-side barrier partition. Acting on veterinary advice Shehaab was a late withdrawal at
12.59pm. Subsequently it was directed that all bets on Shehaab be refunded and that all
bets with bookmakers be subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face
value of tickets: 20¢ win, 21¢ place, 40¢ quinella, 20¢ multiple doubles. As Shehaab
had previously been barred to trial by the Stewards, Mr D. Barron, representing trainer Mr
        G. Rogerson, was advised that Shehaab must barrier trial on two consecutive occasions to
the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again. At the start Camus was crowded for room between Kissing
Down and Power Surge, both of which shifted ground. Campbell's Run was held up for a run
rounding the home turn and at the entrance to the straight made contact with Power Surge
on a number of occasions. A short distance later Campbell's Run was crowded for room
between Camus and Power Surge, which shifted in and away from Raid And Rule. Campbell's
Run then regained its rightful running before being checked near the 100m when crowded for
room between Camus and Power Surge (C. Munce), which, when being ridden along, shifted in
away from Raid And Rule, which also was shifting in at that stage. C. Munce was
reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make more of
an effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground inwards. RACE 2: STC VIP Marquee Handicap 1900m A veterinary examination of Arkadina, which was fractious
in the stabling area, passed the mare fit to start. Two Time Tart got its head up and raced ungenerously in the
early stages. When Friendly Seas crossed to the lead passing the 700m Two
Time Tart shifted to the outside of that horse and in doing so made contact with Casual
Dawn on several occasions. For a short distance thereafter Friendly Seas and Two Time Tart
raced tight inside of Casual Dawn, which was obliged to race three wide for the remainder
of the event. RACE 3: 16 th March Giddy-Up Family Day Handicap 1100m On jumping Danebeam and Shigeru Protector were tightened
for room between Systematic Lass and Win Here Win There, both of which shifted ground. C. Brown (Danebeam) was severely reprimanded for allowing
his mount to shift back in passing the 150m, resulting in Apo Quality, which was
endeavouring to improve into a position between Win Here Win There and Danebeam, being
checked across the heels of Win Here Win There. Approaching the 50m From The Cellar was checked severely
when Miss Goldie Hawn ducked in abruptly. B. York, however, was reprimanded for allowing
his mount to shift in leading up to this incident, which resulted in From The Cellar
racing in unnecessarily tight ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Systematic Lass
to have sustained a laceration to the near-hind coronet. After the running of this race the track was upgraded to
good at 2.15pm. RACE 4: Members Reserved Seating Superfecta 1250m Dr. Freeze, which was fractious in the barriers, began
awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr F. Cleary was advised that a warning
would be placed on the gelding. Garland Prince shifted in at the start and hampered Marscay
Image. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Dr. Freeze to
be making an abnormal respiratory noise and displaying signs of respiratory distress.
Trainer Mr F. Cleary was advised that a veterinary certificate, including the results of
an endoscopic examination, would be required before Dr. Freeze is permitted to race again. RACE 5: 16 th and 23 rd March Boot Party Handicap 1200m Jai's Jump shifted in at the start hampering Ya Ya
Effendi and America's Cup. Spy's Eclipse overraced badly throughout the middle stages.
Raise A King was held up for a run until passing the 200m. In the straight Linga Longa was badly held up for a run and
unable to be tested. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Linga Longa had sustained
minor abrasions to the off-hind fetlock and pastern. RACE 6: STC Membership 50% Off Handicap 1900m Counter Force was slow to begin. C. Munce reported that although he was badly held up
rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, Bara's Thunder was
disappointing in that it did not finish its race off. RACE 7: www.stc.com.au Handicap 1100m Shaanxi got its head up and overraced in the early stages. Close to the finish line C. Munce (Covina) was obliged to
stop riding when Night Before Dawn shifted in. Spectroscope suffered a bleeding attack during running. As
this was the second time, Spectroscope will now be banned from racing forever in
Australia. When questioned, B. Pengelly (I Do Thee Wed) stated that he
was under instructions to ride his mount back, but that he got further back than he
intended when B. York (Aubade) also restrained his mount shortly after the start. B.
Pengelly added that in the straight I Do Thee Wed was inclined to lay in and prove
difficult to ride. Mr J. Gleeson, representing trainer Mr B. Milligan, was advised to
notify Mr Milligan that any change of tactics should be notified to the Stewards. RACE 8: Triple M Slipper Saloon Superfecta 1580m At the start Miss Varikos shifted out hampering Right Out
Of Sight. Windy Dawn was inclined to hang out throughout the event. When questioned as to why he did not follow the eventual
winner, Quadri, which commenced to go forward passing the 500m, A. W. Robinson (Millennium
Buzz) stated that in retrospect he had erred by looking to get a run through the field and
finished up having to check off the heels of Right Out Of Sight, which commenced to give
ground quickly. He stated that when taken to the extreme outside in the straight his mount
then did not respond to his riding. App. G. Scimone was fined $300 after having pleaded guilty
to a charge of having failed to ride 5th placegetter, Stanmark, out right to the finish
line. SUMMARY Fines: Royal Randwick: Race 2: trainer F. W. Mitchell (Argentina) fined $200 - present and race
