RACE 1 - CANTERBURY LEAGUES CLUB HANDICAP 1250M

Fortunato was slow to begin and shortly after was hampered by Beautiful Finish which shifted out.

Verstak overraced throughout the early stages of the event.

At the entrance to the straight Lady Iscariot was disappointed for a run inside Only Glory and was then held up for some distance thereafter.

When questioned regarding the poor performance of Cheyenne Silver, R M Quinn stated that the filly was very factious on the way to the barrier but he could offer no explanation for today's run. Trainer Mr D Robb indicated that Cheyenne Silver will now be given a freshen up. A post race veterinary examination of Cheyenne Silver did not reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken. Mr Robb undertook to report if there is anything amiss with the filly following the race.

RACE 2 - MATADOR BULL BARS HANDICAP 1550M

Near the 600M Total Rush ran out when checked off the heels of County Tyrone.

RACE 3 - CADBURY ICE CREAM HANDICAP 1200M

Just Blitz 'Em, which slipped in the stable area, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

Making the first turn Call The Shot was tightened for room by He's On Fire, which was inclined to lay in. At the same point Johnny Rebb was crowded inside Ari Banu, which was inclined to lay in. Johnny Rebb then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight. A post race veterinary examination of Johnny Rebb revealed no abnormality other than the gelding had got down on its off hind bumper.

Call The Shot and Keen To Dance were held up in the early part of the straight.

RACE 4 - BRADLEY AUSTRALIA SUPERFECTA 1250M

La Feral, which sustained a small laceration to the inside of the off hock en route to the course, was examined pre-race and passed fit to start.

La Feral had to steady off the heels of Mardi's Classic, which shifted out passing the 400M.

Near the 50M Gattling Rosie was disappointed for a run between Skoozi's Girl and Breezer (R Brewer) which shifted out. Apprentice R Brewer was advised to make more effort to keep his mounts straight.

Post race veterinary examinations of Go Getter and Sometimes, which performed disappointingly, did not reveal any abnormality.

Trainer W Mitchell advised that Sometimes now be spelled.

RACE 5 - MIKE HUGHES FINANCE BROKERS HANDICAP 2800M

No report.

RACE 6 - NATIONAL TELECOM GROUP HANDICAP 1200M

Sports Way and Our Earth Star were slow to begin.

Double Bloom jumped away awkwardly and bumped Catmint.

Approaching the 600M Catmint shifted out taking Pour Ma Mere slightly wider. In the incident Miss Lane (C Agnew) improved inside the heels of Pour Ma Mere resulting in Becky's Taboo being tightened causing Arathea to be checked. C Agnew was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

M De Montfort (Pour Ma Mere) stated that from that point his mount did not respond to his riding and a subsequent veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from the effects of heat stress.

RACE 7 - CANLEY HEIGHTS HOTEL SPORTSMANS HANDICAP 1900M

Blue Glo was found to be lame in the near fore leg and was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 4.23pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all bets made on Blue Glo including quinella and multiple double bets incorporating that horse, be refunded in full and that all bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of successful tickets: traditional win and each way bets: four cents win, five cents place; quinellas eight cents; multiple doubles four cents.

Mr N Osborne, representing trainer B Joseph, was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to Blue Glo's next race start.

Babouchke pulled fiercely in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 200M Jacovic was held up on the heels of Barry's Pal and then a short distance later was disappointed for a run between Eugene and Barry's Pal.

Apprentice R Freeman (Garina) was fined $100 under LR 70 for failing to claim her full allowance down to her riding weight.

RACE 8 - BULLDOGS & RAZORBACKS SUPERFECTA 1100M

Trainer P Perry, represented by stable foreman N Perry, was fined $50 under AR 140B(2) for presenting Incident in the enclosure with blinkers.

Shaanxi jumped awkwardly and got its head up.

Hot Tin Roof knuckled over shortly after the start.

Approaching the first turn Incident shifted out taking Strabane wider. Incident then became unbalanced resulting in both horses being hampered and taken wider on the turn.

Approaching the 200M Hot Tin Roof and Cape Howe, which were both held up for a run, both angled for the same run between Incident and Strabane which resulted in Cape Howe being checked when disappointed for the run.

Shaanxi did not obtain clear running until passing the 100M.

When questioned regarding the first up performance of Bold Troubador, B York could off no excuse other than that the horse is better suited over longer journeys where it is able to dictate terms. Ms C Candy, representing trainer G Waterhouse, stated that Bold Troubador had done well in the stable and had trialed well leading into today's race and undertook if there is anything amiss with the gelding subsequent to the event.

Post race veterinary examinations of Bold Troubador and Card Queen did not reveal any abnormality.

Trainer Mr R Law was advised that a warning would be placed against the racing manners of Gold Again, which hung out badly rounding the home turn.
