RACE 1 : THE LEARNING LABORATORY 3YO

Darren Holland replaced C. Lever as the rider of FULL SPEC owing to C. Lever being indisposed through illness.

A swab sample was taken from BOY’S TALK, winner of the race.

FULL SPEC (Darren Holland) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that filly being slow to begin.

In the middle stages of the event OUR SUCCESS (J. Bowditch) commenced to race fiercely resulting in that colt being forced to ease on a number of occasions to avoid the heels of BAROSSA BROADWAY (J. Holder).

BAROSSA BROADWAY (J. Holder) showed a tendency to lay out badly throughout the event.

RACE 2 : HOMECARE PLUS 2YO

A swab sample was taken from ETERNAL DESIRE, winner of the race.

MY BUCCANEER (W. Kerford) and PRICELESS (P. Gatt) were both slow to begin and slow into stride.

On jumping away FLASH HENRY (J. Lorensini) jumped outwards resulting in DIRECTORY (S. Cahill) being taken wider on the track.

RACE 3 : HOTEL CARE COMMUNITY PROJECTS 3YO

W. Kerford replaced L. Smith as the rider of BYE BYE PRINCESS due to L. Smith being excessively overweight. Subsequently that rider was fined $100 under ARR 120(b).

A swab sample was taken from PETITE ETOILE, winner of the race.

Racing inside the 1200 metres KOLASE (D. Tootell) shifted in; at the same time BYE BYE PRINCESS (W. Kerford), whilst being eased, commenced to race ungenerously, resulting in that filly having to ease to avoid the heels of KOLASE. D. Tootell was advised by Stewards that he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for the interference suffered to BYE BYE PRINCESS.

Racing inside the 1000 metres DEMONDO (J. Maund) shifted in slightly resulting in NOIRE JACQUE (J. Bowditch), which had commenced to race on the inside of the heels of DEMONDO, being taken in onto BELIKELY (B. Claridge) which resulted in that filly being tightened and forced to lose its position. J. Maund was advised by Stewards that he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for the interference suffered by BELIKELY.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres NOIRE JACQUE (J. Bowditch) shifted in when insufficiently clear of DEMONDO (J. Maund) resulting in that gelding being taken in onto BYE BYE PRINCESS (W. Kerford) resulting in that filly being taken in and making contact with RUBITON ROYALE (C. Symons) which resulted in that gelding being turned out. J. Bowditch was subsequently charged with Careless Riding under ARR 137(a) and after being found guilty of the offence, was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 6th November and to expire at midnight on Saturday, 24th November 2001; a period of three metropolitan meetings.

Stewards questioned D. Tootell, rider of KOLASE, in relation to his riding of that gelding over the concluding 200 metres of the event. D. Tootell reported to Stewards that he believed that racing in the vicinity of the 200 metres KOLASE had commenced to tire and as a result he had elected not to place the gelding under undue pressure in the fear that KOLASE may become unbalanced and fail to finish off the race. He further stated that over the concluding stages of the event, when challenged by the eventual winner, PETITE ETOILE, he had drawn the whip in a back handed fashion and struck the gelding on one occasion in an endeavour to make KOLASE finish off the race. Stewards have adjourned their inquiry into the matter until 10.00 am on Tuesday, 6th November 2001 at the Cheltenham Racecourse.

A veterinary inspection of KOLASE following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 : KIDMAN PARK ROTARY CLUB HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from NIGHT’S UPON US, winner of the race.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event when W. Hokai, rider of BENLEWAN, approached Stewards to view the official head on film of the start when he believed that the gelding had been denied a fair start owing to BENLEWAN having its hind leg on the running board of its stall. Stewards, after viewing the official film, taking evidence from W. Hokai and Mr. L. Cromwell, the Official Starter, deemed that BENLEWAN had not been denied a fair start and as a result Correct Weight was declared.

RALLY (S. Cahill) and BENLEWAN (W. Hokai) jumped away awkwardly.
