Cheltenham (SA) - Saturday 8 June 2002

TRACK: DEAD
WEATHER: OVERCAST/SHOWERY
Rail: Normal Position

RACE 1: THE WINNING POST HURDLE – 3000m

PAISANO (G Dorol) was slow to begin.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of FAIRWAY GAME revealed that gelding had returned with a haematoma above the offside knee.

RACE 2: THOROUGHBRED EXPRESS HANDICAP – 1350m

On return to scale J Holder rider of second place getter FINNISS D’OR viewed the official Steward’s head-on patrol film. After doing so in conjunction with the Stewards, J Holder lodged an objection against IMPULSIVE REALITY (J Bowditch) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 150 metres. After taking evidence from all connections and acting on their own observations and viewing the Steward’s patrol film, Stewards dismissed the objection.

At the start STARRY STARRY NITE (P Gatt) was inconvenienced when BOLD MOVER (S Price) jumped out at the same time as PRIOR LEADER (N Tomizawa) jumped in.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres SLICK MAGIC (Darren Holland) shifted in and as a result DANCING LASS (J Maund), which was racing keenly, shifted out and bumped FINNISS D’OR (J Holder). D Holland was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Over the concluding stages, IMPULSIVE REALITY (J Bowditch) shifted in and bumped FINNISS D’OR (J Holder). J Bowditch was reprimanded and reminded of his obligations when riding his mounts to the line.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of STARRY STARRY NITE revealed that filly had returned lame in the off fore leg. Mr S Pinfold representing trainer Mr M Moroney advised the Stewards that STARRY STARRY NITE would now be spelled.

RACE 3: THE BEST BETS HANDICAP – 1000m

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of CORPS COMMANDER revealed the gelding had returned with a laceration to the near hind coronet.

RACE 4: THE ADVERTISER HANDICAP – 1800m

In the vicinity of the 1600 metres CHADING (P Gatt) shifted in and as a result LUCENTIER (B Vale) was taken in and bumped EXALTED BEAU (J Maund).

In the vicinity of the 1400 metres BELTELLO (B Claridge) and EXALTED BEAU (J Maund) both raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Stewards questioned S Cahill rider of MULTI WIN regarding his riding tactics particularly from the 400 metres. S Cahill advised the Stewards that he had been instructed to take MULTI WIN wide to make its run but when assessing the formation of the field on the home turn he felt that he would have had to cover too much ground to switch wide, therefore, he decided to remain on the inside of other runners and ride for luck in the straight. S Cahill further stated that in the straight he had been held up for a clear run initially behind SATURDAY FEVER (J Potter) and then in the vicinity of the 300 metre mark by MR JUNEE (D Carney). He further stated that when he elected to shift to the inside of CHADING (P Gatt) he was beaten for that run by DEMONDO (M Neilson) and at that point had to be steadied for several strides. Steward’s observations and patrol films confirmed S Cahill’s comment in relation to being disappointed for a run on several occasions in the straight.; Stewards noted S Cahill’s explanations.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of MR JUNEE revealed a laceration to the near hind leg.

RACE 5: THE SPORTSMAN HANDICAP – 2250m

SHOWGAZER (J Bowditch) was slow to begin.

Shortly after passing the finishing post on the first occasion STAR GAMES (D Azis) shifted in and as a result RUSTY DUSTY GREY (J Potter) had to be steadied for a few strides. D Azis was reminded of his obligations to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of HOSTLER revealed that gelding had sprained its off fore suspensory ligament. Trainer Mr J O’Connor advised the Stewards that HOSTLER would now be retired.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SIMULATE revealed that the mare had returned with muffled heart sounds. Trainer Mr B Brook was advised that a satisfactory ECG must be provided before he accepts for SIMULATE in any future races.

RACE 6: THE TABFORM HANDICAP – 1300m

The start of this race was delayed owing to the front of gate 6 opening when the field was loaded.

PESTALOZZI (W Kerford), IOTA OF LUCK (J Potter) and MISTY HEIGHTS (J Maund) were slow to begin.

VANDECLARE (R Faehr) jumped awkwardly.

Near the 200 metres SWEET CITY SIOUX (D Carney) shifted out and as a result OIL CAN ANNIE (Darren Holland) had to be steadied from the heels of HONOURABLE AMI (J Bowditch).

Over the concluding stages SHOCKS (M Neilson) was disappointed for a run between HONOURABLE AMI (J Bowditch) and KURI BAY (USA) (S Price).

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of PESTALOZZI revealed that the mare had returned lame in the near hind leg. Trainer Mr J Vandermyle was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness would be required before he accepts for PESTALOZZI in any future races.

RACE 7: THE BREEDING & RACING HANDICAP – 1450m

VERTEX (D Carney) was slow to begin.

Near the 1200 metres CUBITON (M Hoppo) shifted in slightly on to SCIATICA (D Tootell), which was racing ungenerously and in turn shifted in on to AVIATE (S Cahill) which tightened A CHORUS LINE (C Lindop). Shortly after MOONGARA (J Bowditch) shifted in slightly and brushed SCIATICA which continued to race ungenerously and shifted in on to AVIATE (S Cahill), which tightened A CHORUS LINE (C Lindop) causing that horse to be checked.
