RACE 1 DIEU DOR HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from SIR
SWAYZE (NZ), winner of the race. STARBUCKS (D. Azis) shifted out on jumping
away and inconvenienced SIR SWAYZE (NZ) (J. Bowditch). RACE 2 TOORAK THOROUGHBREDS
KENVAIN HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from HELLO
BOYS, winner of the race. BAROSSA MUSIC (P. Gatt) jumped away
awkwardly and shifted in taking SAXONY GIRL (D. Azis) in onto COMIC JEWEL (B. Claridge),
which was hampered. RACE 3 EALING PARK GOLD
ACE HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from
SNIPPETY DOODAH, winner of the race. KEELYS GIFT (B. Vale) jumped away

AUTUMN BELLE (M. Pegus). Stewards questioned M. Pegus, rider of
AUTUMN BELLE, regarding his riding of that filly over the final 400 metres and in
particular inside the 200 metres. M. Pegus stated that after improving around the field in
better going, approaching the 400 metres, he believed he had reached the lead near the 350
metres. It was his opinion AUTUMN BELLE was doing its best although not entirely
comfortable in the ground under hands and heels riding. He added that approaching the
finish the filly was inclined to lose its action and he did not punish it although he had
used the whip. This explanation was noted. M. Pegus was advised that under similar
circumstances in future he would be expected to show greater vigour and ride in a manner
which does not invite question from the Stewards. RACE 4 LAKEWOOD STUD
BELLOTTO HANDICAP D. Azis replaced C. Symons as the
rider of SMOOTH AS SILK owing to C. Symons being indisposed through injury. A swab sample was taken from GORGEOUS GURU,

avoid the heels of COMPOSE (W. Kerford), which had commenced to weaken. RACE 5 EXCEL RENT A CAR
HANDICAP PRINCE DUBAI was withdrawn by
Stewards at 10.00 am acting on confirmed advice by Ms. M. Smith, acting for trainer Mr. V.
Oldfield, that their Veterinary Surgeon had advised against starting the gelding due to a
leg ailment. Due to no suitable senior riders being
available, permission was granted for D. Azis to replace L. Smith as the rider of SHEER
owing to L. Smith being excessively overweight. L. Smith was subsequently fined the sum of
$100 under ARR 120(b). Stewards questioned Ms. E. Bentley,
representing Mr. M. Whittle the Trainer of ACCELERATING, regarding that trainers
reasons for racing the gelding on a track rated as heavy today having, last Saturday,
successfully sought permission to scratch ACCELERATING upon the track being downgraded.
After considering the stables submission, Stewards permitted ACCELERATING to start,
however, advised Ms. Bentley that future approaches may lead to an embargo being
considered. ROSE OF CAITLIN, which sustained abrasions
to the near hind leg whilst being floated to the course, was inspected by the Clubs
Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to start. A swab sample was taken from EMVEEPEE,
winner of the race. A veterinary inspection of MANTRA
subsequent to the race failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. A veterinary inspection of SHEER subsequent
to the race revealed that mare to be lame in the off foreleg. RACE 6 OAKSIDE PARK STUD
AKHADAN HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from I KEN,
winner of the race. B. Vale replaced L. Smith as the rider of
SARS and B. Claridge replaced C. Symons as the rider of TEHRIER. TEHRIER (B. Claridge) was slow to begin. OBSCENIC (J. Maund) and AROUND THE RING (W.
Kerford) brushed on several occasions during the early stages of the event. Near the 1200 metres SARS (B. Vale) shifted
in and away from I KEN (D. Tootell) resulting in NARGANOO (Darren Holland) being tightened
onto AROUND THE RING (W. Kerford). J. Maund, rider of OBSCENIC, reported that
gelding may have got its tongue over the bit. Subsequent to the race a veterinary
inspection of OBSCENIC failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. RACE 7 ALANBRIDGE STUD

questioned regarding a report from Mr. T. Morgan, the Clerk of Scales, advising that a
breast plate had been added to the gear after being weighed out. M. Pegus pleaded guilty
to a charge under ARR 118A and was subsequently fined the sum of $100.  |
