RACE 1: POPE PACKAGING HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from
TORMENTUS, winner of the race. LADY NEENA (S Price) and CHADING (C Symons)
bumped together on a number of occasions in the early and middle stages of the race. C Symons, rider of CHADING, reported to
Stewards that the gelding raced fiercely in the early and middle stages resulting in him
being forced to race three wide for the majority of the race. In the vicinity of the 700 metres CHADING
(C Symons) shifted in when insufficiently clear of DEMONDO (J Maund) resulting in that
gelding being forced to be checked and shift out abruptly across the heels of CHADING. In
consequence, TORMENTUS (S Cahill), which had been racing on the outside of DEMONDO, was
forced wider on the track. LUCENTIER (C Lever), which had been racing behind these horses,
was hampered in consequence. C Symons was subsequently charged with Careless Riding under
ARR 13 (a) and after being found guilty of the offence was suspended from riding in races
for a period to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 14 November and for a period to expire
at midnight on Saturday, 1 December 2001; a period of three metropolitan meetings. S Price, rider of LADY NEENA, reported to
Stewards that the filly had travelled well in the early and middle stages of the race but
when asked for an effort in the vicinity of the 600 metres, had failed to respond to his
riding. A Veterinary inspection of LADY NEENA, following the running of the race, revealed
no visible abnormalities. RACE 2: RENNIKS EVENTS HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from
OZFLICKS, winner of the race. In the vicinity of the 800 metres INTREPID
ASTRONAUT (T Creek) and GIACOMO (S Price) bumped together on a number of occasions. In the vicinity of the 600 metres, EMERALD
LAKE (C Buchiw) and GIACOMO (S Price) brushed together on a number of occasions resulting
in EMERALD LAKE (C Buchiw) shifting inwards slightly. In consequence, ADDITION (W
Kerford), which had been racing fiercely behind EMERALD LAKE, was forced to ease to avoid
the heels of that mare. RACE 3: SWETTENHAM STUD HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from
SMILINGLY, winner of the race. CLASSIC STATUS (C Lever) jumped away
awkwardly resulting in that filly being slow into stride. In the vicinity of the 200 metres, TOMONDE
(L Smith) shifted out slightly under riding resulting in CLASSIC STATUS being
inconvenienced. A Veterinary inspection of CLASSIC STATUS
following the running of the race revealed that the filly was suffering from lacerations
to the mouth. RACE 4: BLACKWELL FUNERALS HANDICAP Acting on Veterinary advice that
STYLISH RESPONSE had suffered a laceration to the off hind pastern and was unable to take
its place in the field, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of that gelding at 12.4 pm. Mr S Webb, trainer of LOCHI, was fined a
sum of $50 for failing to produce the registration papers for that gelding as required.
After Stewards were able to confirm the identity of LOCHI through computer records held by
them, the gelding was permitted to take its place in the field. A swab sample was taken from REQUIEM,
winner of the race. Racing in the vicinity of the 1100 metres
WILLIAM OF OZ (D Tootell) shifted in resulting in CLASSIC COUP (NZ) (B Vale) being
inconvenienced when taken in o to TOP KALA (J Nevin) resulting in those two horses bumping
together. Stewards questioned Mr S Webb, trainer of
LOCHI, into the reason that gelding was presented in the mounting yard without blinkers as
required. Stewards accepted the explanations tendered by Mr S Webb. A Veterinary inspection of CZARINA
following the running of the race revealed a laceration to the off fore cannon. RACE 5: PEWSEY VALE RIESLING FLYING A swab sample was taken from LAZING
ABOUT, winner of the race. COUNTBACK struck the front of its stall
resulting in it prematurely opening prior to the start. That mare was subject to a
Veterinary inspection and passed fit to take its place in the field. RACE 6: CHENEY DUTTON VOLVO HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from
NOTHING BUT GOLD, winner of the race. On jumping away INFLEWINZER (C Symons)
shifted in onto MOET NOW (J Maund) who in turn was taken in onto DARK BANNER (C Lever)
resulting in that gelding being tightened for galloping room and losing its position. YOUNG BLOOD (B Vale) jumped outwards at the
start; at the same time, GILDED STAR (G Dorol) jumped inwards, resulting in CENTURIAN (S
Price) being tightened for galloping room between those two horses and losing its
position. In the vicinity of the 1200 metres, GILDED
STAR (G Dorol) shifted in, resulting in YOUNG BLOOD (B Vale) being forced to ease. In the vicinity of the 1100 metres GENERAL
MAGIC (P Marks) shifted in resulting in NOTHING BUT GOLD (P Gatt) being taken in. In
consequence, DANGEROUS REEF (J Bowditch), which had been racing on the inside of NOTHING
BUT GOLD, was inconvenienced. In the vicinity of the 700 metre mark, RIDE
THE STORM (W Kerford) shifted in resulting in CENTURIAN (S Price) momentarily being forced
to ease to avoid the heels of that horse. RACE 7: LAKES RESORT HOTEL HANDICAP A swab sample was taken from RUSTY
DUSTY GREY, winner of the race. PALING GAGAH (J Holder) was slow to begin. STAR GAMES (P Gatt) jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start, approaching the
course proper, RUSTY DUSTY GREY (T Creek) and BAUDIN (W Kerford) shifted in abruptly. Approaching the finish line T Creek, rider
of RUSTY DUSTY GREY, dropped the off side rein on that gelding. RACE 8: SCHWEPPES HANDICAP C Symons replaced J Nevin as the
rider of SUPREMELY owing to J Nevin being excessively overweight. Stewards accepted the
explanations tendered by J Nevin in relation to his overweight. A swab sample was taken from HOUSE GUEST,
winner of the race. On jumping away FRENCH REVOLUTION (W
Kerford) was tightened for galloping room when LORD ROSELAND (J Bowditch) shifted out at
the same time as LORD MILN jumped inwards. S Price, rider of AERIAL PURSUIT, reported
to Stewards that the gelding had shown a reluctance to race throughout the event and after
been caught three wide AERIAL PURSUIT had failed to respond to his riding in the vicinity
of the 500 metres and failed to finish off the race. A Veterinary inspection of AERIAL PURSUIT
following the running of the race revealed that gelding was lame in the off foreleg. GENERAL Blood Samples were taken from the following
horses for the purpose of TCO2 testing: LUCENTIER, PREMONISH, TORMENTUS, DEMONDO, BLEVITA,
STARLIT,TOP KALA, LOCHI, CZARINA, TAKINGS, PRINCE NASEEM, RUBYCEE, BAUDIN, BROWNLOW,
