Rail: Out 3 metres from 1450 metres to Winning Post

RACE 1: MID-YEAR EARTH FAIR HANDICAP – 1000m

LIGHTRIDGE (J Maund) was slow to begin.

On jumping away CLASSICAL ROCK (T Creek) was tightened between FLASH HENRY (W Kerford), which shifted out and SLICK MAGIC (Darren Holland), which shifted in.

Near the 800 metres, CHARLIZE (S Price) was inconvenienced by MR TORNADO (J Lorensini), which shifted in at the same time as BLUE BUBBLE (C Lindop) rolled out.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres MISS SCHIACCI (D Carney) and BLUE BUBBLE (C Lindop), which was inclined to lay out brushed on several occasions.

Approaching the winning post FLASH HENRY (W Kerford) was inclined to lay out.

RACE 2: THE DR P C GOEL’S BIRTHDAY HANDICAP – 1460m

LACHAIM was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon at the barriers and ruled fit to start.

PALING GAGAH stood in the gates and missed the start several lengths. Mr B Mueller, trainer of PALING GAGAH was advised that gelding was now banned from racing until such time it could prove in an organised barrier trial that it can jump with the field. Mr Mueller advised that it would be his recommendation to the owner that the gelding now be retired.

COMFORTS (W Kerford) jumped away awkwardly.

TO PAY UP (D Tootell) was slow to jump.

Near the 1100 metres OUR KING COUNTY (J Potter) was obliged to briefly steady off the heels of LACHAIM (C Lever), which shifted in.

Racing to the 200 metres OUR KING COUNTY (J Potter) was inconvenienced when forced to steady off the heels of BAILE BRIGIN (M Munday), which shifted out. M Munday was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Subsequent to the race SCIATICA was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and was found to be lame in the near hind leg.

RACE 3: AKHADAN HANDICAP - 1310m

ANTIQUE CHAIR (C Lever) was slow to jump.

CANADIAN COMET (J Lyon) jumped away awkwardly.

Entering the straight DANISH STORM (S Price) was disappointed when attempting a tight run between CHINA VICEROY (B Vale), which was inclined to lay back after receiving pressure from DANISH STORM and OUR AVON (D Yendall), which rolled out. Shortly after, CHINA VICEROY (B Vale) was taken in by ANTIQUE CHAIR (C Lever), which was inclined to lay in.

Over the concluding 200 metres ANTIQUE CHAIR (C Lever) was inclined to lay in under pressure. C Lever confirmed this observation and reported that he was obliged to stop riding and straighten at a vital stage.

OUR AVON sustained lacerations to its off hind tendon during the race. Subsequent to the race OUR AVON was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg.

Subsequent to the race, HAMSTER JAZZ was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to be lame in the off fore fetlock joint.

RACE 4: HEALY’S CAMEL WINERY TOURS HANIDCAP – 1360m

SCENICY (B Vale) was slow to jump.

For a short distance, in the vicinity of the 200 metres, EASY LANDING (J Lyon) was unable to obtain clear ground.

Subsequent to the race STAR JOE (NZ) was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported that gelding appeared to be tied up in its action and lower than normal heart rate.

RACE 5: THE JOHN PHILLIPS HANDICAP – 1460m

On jumping away MULTI WIN (J O’Connor) was hampered when tightened between HEALY’S COMET (D Carney), which shifted in and CHADING (C Lever), which shifted out.

Approaching the 1000 metres, TORFILA (L Meech) was forced to steady off the heels of BRIEF TRUTH (T Barras) which shifted in tightening TORFILA on to ORTHOPAEDIC (Darren Holland). In being steadied, TORFILA got its head up and became ungenerous for a short distance. T Barras was reprimanded and advised that in future give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled.

Racing to the 1000 metres OTTOBELLO (J Potter) was obliged to be steadied after improving on to the heels of PREMONISH (W Kerford). OTTOBELLO continued to race ungenerously for a distance thereafter.

Near the 300 metres CHADING (C Lever) was inconvenienced by THESE DAYS (S Price), which shifted out and tightened CHADING (C Lever) on to the hindquarters of KYMATT (G Dorol).

Near the 200 metres HEALY’S COMET (D Carney) was held up momentarily whilst racing inside ORTHOPAEDIC (Darren Holland).

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of TORFILA, which performed disappointingly, revealed that filly was suffering from azoturia.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of BO BEST revealed no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race an endoscopic inspection of THESE DAYS revealed that filly to be suffering signs of respiratory distress.

RACE 6: THE CLAUDE GILES HANDICAP – 1000m

TAGO (B Vale) and UNROCEL SAINT (W Kerford) were slow to jump.

CONTRIVED (M Hoppo) knuckled on jumping away.

AROUND THE BLOCK (L Meech) jumped away awkwardly. L Meech reported that AROUND THE BLOCK slipped behind when jumping away.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres CONTRIVED (M Hoppo) was inconvenienced when obliged to avoid the heels of UNROCEL SAINT, which shifted out.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of HARSH PRAISE failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 7: THE MARY HRIBAL HANDICAP – 1812m

The start of this race was delayed owing to the blinkers on BROTHER WINSTON having to be replaced. Mr R Moore the trainer of BROTHER WINSTON was fined $100 under ARR 140(A) for negligence in presenting that gelding.

PAISANO (L Meech) was slow to jump and was then reluctant to take part. Mr J T Hall the trainer of PAISANO was advised that a future repetition of the gelding’s behaviour may lead to action being taken against it.

SADLER JOH (S Price) knuckled on jumping away resulting in S Price becoming severely unbalanced.

RACE 8: A1 ADVANCED PRE-PURCHASED HOME INSPECTIONS HANDICAP – 2264m

The start of this race was delayed owing to LITTLE NEECO proving difficult to load. Mr B Mueller the trainer of that gelding was advised that similar behaviour in future would result in action being taken against it.

On jumping away LITTLE NEECO was severely hampered when tightened by BLUE TED (D Carney) on its outside, which jumped inwards and SEAVIEW ROAD (J Holder) on its inside, which shifted out.

In the vicinity of the 1900 metres SIMULATE (S Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of MR SELBY (T Creek), which shifted in and shortly after was inconvenienced and obliged to steady off the heels of BLUE TED (D Carney), which shifted out.

Near the 1400 metres SEAVIEW ROAD (J Holder) whilst being steadied off the heels of SATISHA (D Azis) as the pace slowed, got its head up and commenced to race ungenerously. SEAVIEW ROAD continued to race ungenerously and shifted about until the 1000 metres.

D Tootell the rider of LITTLE NEECO reported that gelding hung out from the vicinity of the 800 metres.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of LITTLE NEECO revealed no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SEAVIEW ROAD, which had raced ungenerously, revealed that gelding to be slightly short in its action in front.

ROUTINE SWAB SAMPLES:

Race 1 MISS SCHACCI (winner), Race 5 ARGENT LANE (winner), Race 2 LA MISSIONAIRE (winner), Race 6 UNROCEL SAINT (winner), Race 3 LIKE JON (winner), Race 7 RUSTY DUSTY GREY (winner), Race 4 DIMNESS (winner), Race 8 OXFORD DOLLAR (winner).

GENERAL:

Mr. W. Bencic, Part-owner/Trainer of CHINA VICEROY, was questioned regarding the training of the gelding, which has recently been stabled at the Morphettville stables of Trainer Mr. P. C. Barns.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Mr. Bencic and CHINA VICEROY was permitted to start. Mr. Bencic was advised in similar circumstances in future he should first obtain permission from the Stewards.
