 RACE 1: ROYAL
PARK HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken
from NO DEPOSIT, winner of the race. TAPALINGA (J Holder) and HILLVIEW EXPRESS
(J Maund) were slow to jump. In the vicinity of the 1100 metres
TAPALINGA (J Holder) shifted in onto NO DEPOSIT (T Creek), tightening that gelding in onto
MOSSITON (G OLoughlin), resulting in NO DEPOSIT having to be eased. J Holder was
advised of his obligations when shifting ground. In the middle stages of the race, MOSSITON
(G OLoughlin) was inclined to over race. In the vicinity of the 100 metres DIMNESS
(B Claridge) shifted out and brushed HILLVIEW EXPRESS (J Maund), which was inconvenienced.
B Claridge, rider of DIMNESS, dropped his whip shortly after this incident. B Claridge was
fined $100 for carelessness under ARR 137(a). RACE 2: BROMPTON HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken from FLAWED
LOGIC, winner of the race. VENGADAME (W Kerford) was slow to jump. SPARTACULAR (D Smith) stood in the gates
and missed the start. VENGADAME (W Kerford) was inclined to lay
in throughout the event. P Gatt reported his mount DIRECTORY was
held up for a short distance in the vicinity of the 300 metres and was obliged to shift
out to obtain clear ground. Racing to the 100 metres VENGADAME (W
Kerford) shifted in and brushed DIRECTORY (P Gatt), which reacted away and shifted in,
inconveniencing FLASH HENRY (J Lorensini). A Veterinary inspection of SPARTACULAR
following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormalities. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of VENGADAME revealed that filly had a boil in its left upper lip. Mr Brook,
trainer of VENGADAME, will be questioned at a later date as to why he had not notified the
Stewards of the fillys condition prior to the race. RACE 3: BORAL CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS
HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken from RALLY,
winner of the race. On jumping away RALLY (T Creek) and PRINCE
IDA (J Holder) brushed. Inside the 200 metres ALL CHEER (B
Claridge) was obliged to steady when tightened by CANBIAN STAD (S Price) which shifted in
under riding. Over the concluding 100 metres ALL CHEER (B
Claridge) was unable to obtain a clear run. RACE 4: GRANGE HANDICAP The start of this race was delayed
several minutes owing to ZEDIMBI refusing to be loaded. ZEDIMBI was withdrawn by Stewards
at 2.21pm. All bets on that horse were declared off. Bets on other runners were reduced at
the rate of 6 cents in the dollar on the face value of the ticket for the win and 7 cents
in the dollar from the winnings only for the place. Mr M Minervini trainer of ZEDIMBI was
advised the gelding was now suspended from racing until it can prove, in an official
trial, that it can be loaded without delay. OTTOBELLO (J Maund) stood flat-footed in
the gates and missed the start by several lengths. A routine swab sample was taken from EURO
CONNECTION, winner of the race. MOSSE (B Claridge) was slow to jump. On jumping away, PRINCE RAJA (G Dorol)
shifted in abruptly and made severe contact with CLASSIC STATUS (P Gatt), which was
tightened onto FORCEFUL (D Smith), which in turn was taken in onto SWITCH VISION (W
Kerford). Shortly after, PRINCE RAJA continued in, tightening CLASSIC STATUS onto FORCEFUL
which in turn was taken in, resulting in SWITCH VISION (W Kerford) electing to take hold
and lose its position. Racing to the 1000 metres PRINCE RAJA (G
Dorol), which had continued to race ungenerously, shifted in, taking CLASSIC STATUS (P
Gatt) in onto FORCEFUL (D Smith), which was obliged to steady and lose its position. Near the 100 metres OTTOBELLO (J Maund)
shifted out and brushed MOSSE (B Claridge) on several occasions. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of PRINCE RAJA revealed that colt to have pre-existing cuts to its lower mouth
on both sides of the jaw. Mr J Hall, trainer of PRINCE RAJA, was advised that a Veterinary
Certificate of Fitness would be required, clearing that colt prior to its performing
satisfactory in an official trial before being accepted for a future event. RACE 5: SAPPHIRE DISTRIBUTORS
HANDICAP ROKSHOW was withdrawn by Stewards
at 8.25am, acting on confirmed advice by Mr B Woosnam, trainer of that gelding, that it
was sore in its fore feet. A routine swab sample was taken from MY SKY
ROCKET (GB), winner of the race. HOSTILE LAD (D Tootell) was slow to begin. On jumping away SPRING WATER (D Smith)
jumped outward, resulting in DINKY BARRY (P Gatt) being taken out onto METAL GOLD (D
Azis), which in turn was taken out to MY SKY ROCKET (GB) (B Claridge), which shifted out
onto REFLEXES (J Nevin), resulting in that gelding making contact with the hindquarters of
IM HONOR HIGH (T Creek), which was unbalanced for a short distance. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of REFLEXES failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. RACE 6: THE HISTORIC CITY OF
WOODVILLE HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken
from DEACONESS, winner of the race. At the entrance to the straight, ALL THE
ACTION (S Cahill) shifted out on to DEACONESS (S Price). In consequence DEACONESS laid
back, resulting in both horses brushing together for a short distance. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of BALLATA revealed that gelding had a laceration on the near hind coronet. RACE 7: PAINT SUPPLIES OF SA HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken
from IRRADIANCE, winner of the race. Racing to the 600 metres GATTON (C Lindop)
was obliged to steady off the heels of KING CROW (C Buchiw). At the entrance to the straight, INTERLOCK
(W Kerford) was inconvenienced by SOUTH NEPTUNE (H McKechnie) which shifted out to improve
its position. Shortly afterwards SOUTH NEPTUNE laid out for a short distance and
inconvenienced INTERLOCK. Approaching the winning post C Buchiw rider
of KING CROW reported she lost the use of the near side rein. J Holder, rider of AT ALL TIMES, was
advised to continue to ride his mount to the finish of a race. SOUTH NEPTUNE continued to lay out for the
remainder of the event. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of SOUTH NEPTUNE revealed no visible abnormalities. RACE 8: FLINDERS PARK HANDICAP A routine swab sample was taken
from SNIPPETS BELLE, winner of the race. MOVED (D Holland) was slow to jump. RUBY WEDNESDAY (P Gatt) jumped away
awkwardly. DEER GIRL (J Potter) was inclined to rear
as the gates opened, then shortly afterwards was hampered as a result of KING KEEPERS (C
Buchiw) being taken in by AMACLASE (D Carney), which shifted in on jumping away. Racing inside the 800 metres DEER GIRL (J
Potter) got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RUBY WEDNESDAY (P
Gatt), which had been taken in by LUSKINS PROUD (D Azis). D Azis was severely
reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear, and was advised that in future
to give his fellow riders the room to which they are entitled. T Creek, rider of OUR FAME, was questioned
regarding his riding of that filly over the concluding stages. T Creek explained that
after obtaining a run inside CULLEN BAY he had persevered with the whip before putting it
away, as he had formed the opinion that OUR FAME dislikes being put under severe pressure.
He further advised that he had ridden the filly at its previous start and had put the whip
away on that occasion and felt the filly had responded to hands and heels riding. T Creek
was advised his explanations would be noted. However, he was informed that in future he
would be expected to ride his mounts in a manner that would not invite question. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of RUBY
WEDNESDAY failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. |
