RACE 1: LAKEWOOD STUD – BELLOTTO HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from MOUNT BATTEN, winner of the race.

MOUNT BATTEN (J Maund) jumped away awkwardly.

UMADALE (C Lever) showed a tendency to lay out badly throughout the event.

RACE 2: GLENRAE STUD – DANETOP HANDICAP

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored to allow W Kerford rider of COMPOSE to view the official head-on film in the straight. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

A swab sample was taken from ANOTHER GEM, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres, MARAUDING WAVE (M Hoppo) and SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) (D Tootell) bumped together.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres SHANGHAI MOON (NZ) (S Price) was disappointed for a run for a short distance.

Over the concluding stages of the event SHANGHAI MOON (NZ) (S. Price) shifted out resulting in COMPOSE (W Kerford) being forced wider on the track. S Price was advised of his obligations under similar circumstances.

A Veterinary inspection and endoscoping of SAPPHIRE FLASH (NZ) revealed that filly was suffering from pharyngitis.

RACE 3: BLUE GUM FARM – UMATILLA HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from SHOWGAZER, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 1500 metres TAWTRICE (T Creek), whilst being restrained, shifted out slightly; at the same time, POMME DE TERRE (B Claridge) shifted in slightly, resulting in TANA’S LAD (C Symons) being inconvenienced between those two horses.

B Claridge, rider of POMME DE TERRE, was fined the sum of $50 for dropping his whip racing in the vicinity of the 600 metres.

RACE 4: VINERY AUSTRALIA – SAITHOR HANDICAP

Mr T O’Sullivan represented by Miss K O’Sullivan, trainer of SUPER LAD (NZ), was fined the sum of $100 for failing to produce the registration papers for that gelding as required under ARR 59A. After being able to confirm the identity of SUPER LAD (NZ) by computer records held by them, Stewards permitted that gelding to take its place in the field.

A swab sample was taken from HIGHTARI, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 400 metres JETWAY (G O’Loughlin) shifted out to improve its position resulting in that horse and DANGEROUS REEF (J Bowditch) bumping together.

RACE 5: RENNIKS EVENTS HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from CUBITON, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres SEA THE WAY was eased out of the race by its rider D Carney owing to that gelding suffering a bi-lateral bleeding attack. As a result, Mr A Selfe trainer of SEA THE WAY, was advised that the gelding was now banned from racing for a period of three months under ARR 53A.

Rounding the home turn JAMATRE (S Price) was disappointed for a run for a short distance.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres JAMATRE (S Price) shifted out to improve its position; at the same time JACK OF SPADES (L Smith) commenced to shift out under riding, as a result BAITENHAUSEN (B Claridge) was forced to check to avoid the heels of JAMATRE. S Price was severely reprimanded and advised that he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for this incident.

RACE 6: GILLINGHAMD PRINTERS HANDICAP

The start of this race was delayed slightly owing to ZIGOMAR rearing in its stall on a number of occasions resulting in that gelding’s rider, V Caddy, being dislodged. Mr W Cerchi, trainer of ZIGOMAR, was advised that a repetition of that gelding’s behaviour could lead to it being banned for a period.

A swab sample was taken from WISP, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres ROYAL RUBY (S Price) shifted out slightly resulting in BRINKLEY LASS (D Cleaver) being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres ZIGOMAR (V Caddy) shifted out to improve its position resulting in LUCY GLITTERS (C Lindop) being forced to ease and lose its position. V Caddy was reprimanded by the Stewards and advised of his obligations under similar circumstances.

RACE 7: CONTRACTS ENGINEERING HANDICAP

W Kerford replaced J Lorensini as the rider of FUTURE ETHICS following a request from Mr K Sweeney trainer of that gelding to replace J Lorensini owing to him being a half a kilogram overweight. Stewards conceded to the request and took no further action against J Lorensini but advised him to be more positive when accepting future engagements.

A swab sample was taken from OLONGOPO, winner of the race.

On jumping away BROWNLOW (D Azis) shifted in on to BRAVE DECISION (J Maund) who in turn was taken in onto NUNJI ROYALE (M Hoppo).

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres FLY THE SCENE (W Hokai) showed a tendency to over race.

Rounding the home turn and for some distance in the straight, BROWNLOW (D Azis) had difficulty in obtaining clear galloping room.

Racing inside the 200 metres BUFFALO POWER (C Lever) shifted in slightly resulting in that gelding and FLY THE SCENE (W Hokai) bumping together.

DINKY BARRY lost its off fore plate during the running of the event.

RACE 8: GOLDRUSH GROUP HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from IMPERIAL TRISK, winner of the race.

PATAUDI (D Carney) was slow to begin.
