Rail: Out 4 metres from 1450 metres to Winning Post

RACE 1 : PEACE COMMAND AT MEADOWLAND HANDICAP

MALTHOUSE was withdrawn by Stewards at 9.26 am, acting on a confirmed telephone conversation with Mr. M. Minervini that the gelding had sustained an injury to its near fore tendon.

GOLDEN ARCHES (W. Hokai) was slow to jump.

Near the 500 metres MASCAGNI (M. Zahra) shifted in and brushed SALAZAR (P. Gatt).

Near the 200 metres, D. Azis, rider of WHY HURRY, lost his whip after it struck the hindquarters of SALAZAR (P. Gatt). D. Azis was fined $50 for carelessness under ARR 137(a).

Shortly afterwards WHY HURRY (D. Azis) became unbalanced whilst racing tight inside SALAZAR (P. Gatt), which was inclined to lay in.

RACE 2 : HAPPY GIGGLE AT LAKEWOOD HANDICAP

SUNBURY (P. Gatt) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 700 metres STAR HIT (J. Bowditch) was obliged to steady for a short distance to avoid the heels of MINT OF GOLD (S. Cahill), which shifted in.

IRISH JANTEE (D. Azis) was inclined to lay out from the 600 metres and making the turn into the straight, shifted out and continued to lay out.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of IRISH JANTEE revealed the gelding had pulled up short in both forelegs. Mr. A.J. Selfe, trainer of IRISH JANTEE, gave an undertaking to Stewards to report the results of an extensive veterinary examination of the gelding to TRSA Veterinarian, Dr. R. Robinson.

RACE 3 : FELTEX CARPETS QUEEN ADELAIDE STAKES

WESTACE (D. Tootell), CHOCKO (D. Azis), HOLLOW (W. Kerford) and HALO AMORE (L. Smith) were all slow to jump.

Approaching the finish RED LABELLE (J. Bowditch) changed stride and on the finish line appeared to step a duck, which had encroached onto the course proper.

RACE 4 : BIANCONI AT COLLINGROVE HANDICAP

At the entrance to the straight SACAGAWEA (J. Lorensini), whilst being held up briefly, became unbalanced and brushed LADY VICKI (C. Lindop) on its inside, which had commenced to weaken, and HONOURABLE AMI (B. Claridge) on its outside.

Inside the 300 metres, whilst attempting to obtain a run inside DALLAENI (M. Hoppo), BAROSSA SCHOLAR (S. Price) shifted out and brushed DALLAENI at the same time as SEREIN (P. Gatt) shifted in, resulting in DALLAENI becoming tightened and inconvenienced.

A veterinary examination of LADY VICKI following the running of the race revealed the mare had pulled up lame in the near foreleg. Mr. D. Dodson, trainer of LADY VICKI, advised that the mare would now be spelled.

RACE 5 : DOUBLE VICE AT GLENRAE HANDICAP

GEIGER GOLD was slow into stride despite the efforts of its rider, C. Lever.

Inside the 200 metres CONTRIVED (M. Hoppo) and WYNDAM ALL (M. Zahra) brushed together.

M. Hoppo, rider of CONTRIVED, momentarily lost his off side rein inside the 100 metres.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed in being semaphored to allow M. Zahra, rider of WYNDAM ALL, together with the colt’s trainer, Mr. T. McEvoy, to view the official footage in the straight. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, M. Zahra declined the opportunity to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

P. Gatt, rider of ON MY OATH, reported to Stewards that he had become concerned with the gelding’s action inside the 200 metres and had eased it out of the race. A veterinary examination of ON MY OATH subsequent to the race failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 : SUPER JET AT AMPULLA LODGE HANDICAP

S. Price replaced G. Dorol as the rider of WHAT REPORT owing to G. Dorol being unable to make the allotted weight. G. Dorol was fined $100 under ARR 120B.

C. Bryant was questioned by the Stewards regarding his failure to produce a medical certificate, having forgone rides at Strathalbyn last Wednesday. C. Bryant was reprimanded and permitted to ride on the undertaking that he forward the medical certificate he had obtained to the Stewards on Monday morning.

WHAT REPORT (S. Price) was slow to jump.

ADDITION (J. Lorensini), whilst being restrained, got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.

After entering the straight KEYMARK (P. Gatt), whilst racing tight inside HAWK EYE (NZ) (M. Zahra) and in arrears of KING CROW (B. Claridge), was unable to obtain clear ground until approximately 50 metres from the finish.

RACE 7 : JAYCO CARAVANS HANDICAP

CORKER BLUE (P. Gatt) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1100 metres GEM BEACH (C. Lindop) was forced to steady off the heels of BRICKLIN’S BROTHER (T. Creek), which shifted in.

B. Vale, rider of MR. ICEMAN, reported to Stewards that the gelding laid out from the 800 metres for the remainder of the race.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of MR. ICEMAN revealed the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDGIFT, subsequent to the race, revealed the mare was showing signs of post-race respiratory distress.

RACE 8 : SPLENDENT AT MEADOWLAND HANDICAP

MILITARY TUNE was withdrawn by Stewards at 8.02 am on a confirmed advice from Mr. R. Croser, trainer of the gelding, that it was suffering the after effects of an insect bite.

BAY OF STEEL (R. Price) knuckled on jumping away.

Near the 400 metres DINKY BARRY (T. Creek) was hampered when attempting a tight run inside MARCIN ON (W. Kerford), which rolled in under riding.

Shortly after DINKY BARRY (T. Creek), which persevered with attempting to take that inside run, contacted the hindquarters of MARCIN ON (W. Kerford) resulting in that gelding being turned and inconvenienced.

Over the concluding stages MARCIN ON (W. Kerford) lost the use of his off side rein.

ROUTINE SWAB SAMPLES:

Routine swab samples were taken from the following horses:-
Race 1 MASCAGNI (winner), Race 2 PONTEVEDRA (winner), Race 3 WESTACE (winner), Race 4 SEREIN (winner), Race 5 CONTRIVED (winner), Race 6 RARE GOLD (winner), Race 7 IKAROS (winner), Race 8 DINKY BARRY (winner).

ADDITIONAL REPORT:

Race 4 - Victoria Park – 12th January 2002

Mr. M.A.T. Kavanagh, trainer of SNIPPETY DOODAH, reported to Stewards that on Friday, 18th January 2002, the gelding was being treated for a foot abscess on its near foreleg which had become apparent several days after racing.
