Clare (SA) - Sunday 21 April 2002

Track: Good
Weather: Overcast
Rail: True

RACE 1 – HUNTS FUEL / SABIS C, G & E MAIDEN PLATE – 1100 metres

NEW PROMISE (B. Vale) was slow to begin.

On jumping away MADISON GARDENS (M. Neilson) shifted in, inconveniencing JACK ‘N’ TAN (S. Lovegrove).

RACE 2 – COLIN COOK FAMILY ENTERPRISES / SABIS F & M MAIDEN PLATE - 1100 metres

LADY CAVERSHAM (D. Cleaver) was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start INGURAIN (B. Vale) shifted in and bumped JON’S LISA (A. Stead), which in turn shifted in and bumped WAR MIST (J. Maund) on several occasions.

INCUS (S. Price) broke down and had to be eased out of the race at approximately the 700 metres. INCUS was found to have suffered a fracture to its metacarpal joint and required Veterinary attention.

H. McKechnie, rider of YOUNG SMYTZER 3rd Placegetter, requested to view the official head-on videotape of an incident at the 700 metres. After doing so in conjunction with the Stewards, H. McKechnie lodged an objection against DECIDELA (J. Potter) being declared the winner of the race, for alleged interference at the 700 metres. After considering evidence from all parties, viewing the official video film and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the objection.

Racing to the 700 metres DECIDELA (J. Potter) shifted in at the same time as GO EMMA (K. Louca) took a run on the inside of that filly, resulting in J. Potter easing DECIDELA and in consequence it shifted out abruptly, forcing YOUNG SMYTZER (H. McKechnie) out across the heels of MISS BOSS (J. Lyon).

Racing to the 200 metres MISS BOSS (J. Lyon) shifted out abruptly to obtain a clear run.

RACE 3 – CENTRAL HOTEL RIVERTON 2UP DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1700 metres

FREELANCE underwent a Veterinary inspection in the Mounting Yard and at the Barrier and was declared fit to start.

C. Lever, rider of PATAGONIA, explained to the Stewards that the filly had a tendency to hang out on the turns, and racing to the 600 metres the filly hung out across the heels of KATOOSH (H. McKechnie), and as a result PATAGONIA lost its position at that stage of the race.

Racing to the 300 metres MOLLY DOLLY (J. Lyon) shifted out to avoid the heels of BROTHER WINSTON (K. Louca), which was weakening quickly, and as a result TRIFALAO (A. Stead) had to be eased and KATOOSH (H. McKechnie) was taken wider on the track. J. Lyon was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

RACE 4 – BENTLEY’S HOTEL MOTEL DISTANCE CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1700 metres

Racing to the 600 metres TEHRIER (J. Potter) had to be eased to avoid the heels of RONDA’S GIRL (J. Marks).

RACE 5 – WEMS CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

ANOTHER PRINTER (J. Maund) was slow to begin.

From the 800 to about the 700 metres BOUFFANT (M. Neilson) laid in and brushed the running rail on several occasions.

Racing to the 400 metres BOUFFANT (M. Neilson) was held up for a run behind GREY HEIREA (K. Louca) until entering the straight.

On entering the straight BOUFFANT (M. Neilson) and GREY HEIREA (K. Louca) brushed.

Racing to about the 100 metres K. Louca, rider of GREY HEIREA, accidentally struck DRACONIAN (C. Lever) on the head with his whip.

S. Price, rider of ANGEL OF HARLEM, reported that he was of the opinion that the filly may have got its tongue over the bit during the running of the race and as a result it may have suffered some respiratory distress. Mr. C. Parks, representing Trainer Mr. A. McEvoy, confirmed S. Price’s statement and advised that a tongue-tie may be added to the filly’s gear. A Veterinary inspection of ANGEL OF HARLEM revealed some respiratory distress, indicating that the filly may have choked down.

RACE 6 – CLARE VALLEY WEST END CUP – 1800 metres

A Veterinary inspection of BITSKI at the barrier declared the gelding fit to start.

J. Maund, rider of MAHATMA being declared the 3rd Placegetter, requested to view the official head-on and side-on official video tapes of the final 200 metres of the race. After doing so in conjunction with the Stewards J. Maund lodged an objection against GRISWALD (C. Lindop) being declared the 2nd Placegetter. After considering evidence from all parties, viewing the official video films and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the objection.

From approximately the 200 metres GRISWALD (C. Lindop) had a tendency to shift out gradually, resulting in MAHATMA (J. Maund) being unable to obtain a clear run from about the 150 to the 100 metres. C. Lindop was advised of her obligations when her mounts shift ground, and to stop riding and straighten them.

Trainer Mr. W. J. Braithwaite was advised that a warning had been placed on TRISTACE (NZ) in respect to its poor performance, and should the gelding race in a similar manner again action may be taken against it.

On entering the straight INFLEWINZER (G. Dorol) was inconvenienced due to DORADOS (J. Marks) shifting in at that stage. J. Marks was reminded of his obligations when his mounts shift ground.

RACE 7 – SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2002 (Heat 9) – 1200 metres

Subsequent to the race SUNBURY pulled up distressed. A Veterinary examination of the gelding revealed it was suffering from lameness in its off fore leg and Veterinary attention was required.

RACE 8 – WATER SEARCH CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 metres

No report.
