Clare (SA) - Sunday 21 October 2001

Track: Slow
Weather: Fine
Rail: Normal position.

RACE 1 – BONNETT’S SADDLERY SABIS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):

Prior to the start WHY HURRY, which had been kicked in the near side stifle behind the gates, was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled unfit to start. WHY HURRY was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.12 p.m. acting on Veterinary advice.

Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on WHY HURRY be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 20 cents in the dollar from the face value of the ticket, and;
Bets for a PLACE - 16 cents in the dollar from the winnings only.

MILITARY EDITION (J. O’Connor) jumped away awkwardly.

GO EMMA (H. McKechnie) shifted out on jumping away and hampered ESPRIT DE FURY (C. Buchiw).

In the vicinity of the 600 metres ACT SURE (D.Tootell) was obliged to steady away from the heels of ESPRIT DE FURY (C. Buchiw), which was inclined to lay in.

S. Cahill, rider of BELLA SOVRANA, dropped his whip in the vicinity of the 300 metres. S. Cahill was advised that future incidents of carelessness may result in a penalty being imposed.

RACE 2 – LEASINGHAM/STRINGY BRAE WINES SABIS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):

NIGHT KISS (B. Claridge) and PROSPECTOR GIRL (L. Smith) both jumped away awkwardly.

Inside the 400 metres DING D’OR (D. Carney) was obliged to steady for a short distance, off the heels of LIMA JULIET (B. Vale), which was inclined to lay in.

J. Holder, rider of LEMOXIE, reported the mare was inclined to hang out from the 400 metres until the finish.

TIMELY FIRE (Darren Holland) was eased out of the event over the concluding stages. Darren Holland reported that he became concerned for the welfare of the mare, due to it making a noise.

Subsequent to the race TIMELY FIRE was inspected by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported that the mare was slow in recovery and exhibiting excessive heart and respiratory rates, and in his opinion TIMELY FIRE may have swallowed its tongue.

LIMA JULIET lost its near hind plate during the race.

RACE 3 – CHRISTIES BEACH MOTEL COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE:

The start of this race was delayed owing to ROJO DIABLO proving difficult to load. Mr. R. Allen, Trainer of the gelding, was advised that a repetition of its behaviour would lead to action being taken against it.

HUG A MUG (B. Claridge) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, hampering ROJO DIABLO (J. Holder).

B. Claridge, rider of HUG A MUG, was advised by Stewards to in future ride his mounts to the finish of the race.

RACE 4 – JIM BARRY WINES/NEAGLES ROCK VINEYARDS CLASS 3 HANDICAP:

ELLAWARREN LAD (J. Lorensini) turned his head as the gates opened and missed the start several lengths.

D. Tootell, rider of LOLA, reported that in the vicinity of the 700 metres he had elected to ease his mount away from the lead, as he believed the mare would have difficulty in maintaining its position. He added that, in his opinion, LOLA had struggled in the soft ground and was unable to display its usual brilliance.

SAXONY GIRL (D. Azis) was eased out of the race in the vicinity of the 200 metres.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection of SAXONY GIRL revealed the mare had cross fired and was showing to be lame in the near fore and off hind.

Subsequent to the race Mr. M. Glenn, Trainer of ILLUSTRIOUS RULER, reported the mare was exhibiting signs of blood in a nostril. An inspection by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon confirmed that ILLUSTRIOUS RULER had blood in its near side nostril.

A routine swab sample was taken from STOCKADE BOY, winner of the race.

RACE 5 – AUSPINE – NEWCREO SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

KOHATON (D. Tootell) reared as the gates opened, missing the start and was slow into stride thereafter.

In the middle stages of the race BILLY RAY (J. Maund) and TENOR BILL (B. Vale) raced fiercely.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres TOMMY GUN (NZ) (B. Claridge), which became hesitant when racing in the field, was tightened by KING KEEPERS (D. Carney), which shifted out at the same time as TENOR BILL (B. Vale), which was racing on the outside of TOMMY GUN (NZ), rolled in and away from MAYBE MOLLY (J. Potter). As a result, TOMMY GUN (NZ) clipped the heels of TENOR BILL, dipped and dislodged B. Claridge. In consequence THE MAN OF ARMAGH (J. O’Connor) and KOHATON (D. Tootell) were inconvenienced. Although not entirely responsible for this incident, D. Carney was advised of his obligations when shifting ground.

Subsequent to the race B. Claridge was examined by the attending Ambulance Personnel and found to be uninjured.

RACE 6 – CLARE VALLEY WINEMAKERS CUP:Shortly after the start ZAHEEM (J. Potter), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and inconvenienced SLIGO CLASSIC (J. Lorensini) and FREAK OUT (Darren Holland).

A routine swab sample was taken from BALLATA, winner of the race.

RACE 7 – ELDREDGE/TAYLORS/KNAPPSTEIN WINES CLASS 6 HANDICAP:

RECKILINO was withdrawn by Stewards at 3.54 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice the mare was lame in the left fore leg.

Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on RECKILINO be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 10 cents in the dollar from the face value of the ticket, and;
Bets for a PLACE - 10 cents in the dollar from the winnings only.

RACE 8 – KILIKANOON/PENNA LANE WINES MAIDEN PLATE:

Shortly after the start SADLER’S ROAD (J. Lorensini) shifted in into DANGER CHARGER (D. Tootell), which was taken in, resulting in PROUD RIVER (J. Maund) having to steady off the heels of DANGER CHARGER and lose its position.

J. Lorensini was advised of his obligations when shifting ground in future.
