On jumping away, Lady Sophia, which was slightly slow to begin, was then hampered when tightened for room by Comedy of Dreams, which initially shifted in and Porto Venere, which then shifted out. L. Meech, rider of Comedy of Dreams explained to the Stewards that approaching the 400 metres, she felt that the gelding had slipped behind and then faulted in its action when trying to correct itself and from this point on, she eased the gelding down as she felt there may be something a-miss with Comedy of Dreams. Subsequent to the race, the Club Veterinary Surgeon examined the gelding and reported no apparent abnormality. P. Young, rider of West of the Bridge, which performed below expectations explained to the Stewards that the filly raced ungenerously throughout the race and failed to respond to his riding during the race. As a result of Desert Bomber's actions, the start of the race was delayed. S.
