VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP - 1000 metres: Acting on a report from the Starter regarding
"Springburn" being reluctant to enter the starting stalls, the Stewards notified
Mr. Tony Krushka, trainer of the filly, that should "Springburn" behave in a
similar manner in future more severe action may be taken. Mr. Krushka was further notified
that prior to "Springburn" racing again he must produce a barrier test
certificate in respect of it. "Singarda" jumped away awkwardly, and shifted out
away from "Ultimate Edge" and lost ground. "Lord Montague" and "Mal de Mer" both
began awkwardly. Approaching the 800 metres "Lord Montague" was
tightened for room by "Mal de Mer", which shifted in when laying in. Shortly after this incident "Lord Montague" was
again tightened for room by "Cyberiad", which shifted in away from "Crystal
Show" which was taken in by "Simply Elle", which also shifted in at this
stage. As the Stewards did not attribute the blame to any one rider, they took no action. For some distance approaching the 600 metres "Mal de
Mer" had to be eased off the heels of "Kinevil". Rounding the home turn "No Bull" and
"Ultimate Edge" were hampered due to "Kinevil" (N. Callow) shifting
out when not sufficiently clear. N. Callow was notified that he would be expected to
ensure that he is clear of other runners when shifting ground in future. Also rounding the home turn "Porto Venere"
brushed the running rail and became unbalanced when racing tight on the inside of
"Toots" (D. Nikolic), which shifted in slightly. Whilst the Stewards believed
that there were some circumstances, D. Nikolic was notified that he must leave comfortable
room for runners on his inside in future. Race 2 - KIDS' DAY OUT SUPER VOBIS
THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres: "Morgan's Cave" was a little slow to begin, and
was then inconvenienced by "Rube", which began awkwardly and shifted in. "Bella Moxie" also began awkwardly, shifted in
and hampered "I Gotcha Babe". Near the 700 metres "I Gotcha Babe", which was
over-racing, had to be eased to avoid the heels of "Sudden Warning", which
shifted in slightly. Race 3 - SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE - 2025 metres:
For a short distance in the early part of the straight
"Zabacci (NZ)" was held up for a run. S. Baster, rider of "Royal Celebrity" which
weakened over the concluding stages of the race, stated that the horse had travelled well
in the middle stages of the race. Baster said that "Royal Celebrity" weakened
when put under pressure from the home turn, but appeared to have pulled up well. Baster
added that "Royal Celebrity" may be suspect at the 2000 metres. A veterinary
examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormality. Race 4 - BIKELINE CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200
metres: "Woodbyne Action" jumped away awkwardly, and lost
ground. Race 5 - TRAVIS HARRISON APPRENTICES CUP -
1600 metres: Near the 1400 metres "Foreign Affair" and
"Rosstown" came together for a short distance. Race 6 - BOSS HOGS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600
metres: Rounding the home turn "Awoken" was tightened
momentarily by "Restabella", which shifted in slightly. A veterinary examination of "Temple of Gold (NZ)"
subsequent to the event revealed that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. Mr. A.
Rosolini, trainer of "Temple of Gold (NZ)", was notified that he must produce a
veterinary certificate of soundness prior to "Temple of Gold (NZ)" racing again. Race 7 - T. J. HARRISON CLASS 3 HANDICAP -
2025 metres: For a short distance rounding the home turn
"Swamp Princess" was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Race 8 - LIMERICK LANE THOROUGHBREDS
CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Approaching the winning post "Change of Control"
        (N. Callow) shifted out under pressure, and as a result "Khapterino (NZ)" was
hampered. N. Callow was notified to make every effort to keep his mount straight in
future. SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Been
Laughing", winner of the Bikeline Class 1 Handicap - Race 4, and from "Change of
Control", winner of the Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds Class 2 Handicap - Race 8. Random swab samples were taken from "Moderator",
which ran unplaced in the Schweppes Maiden Plate - Race 3; from "Stanza Bid",
winner of the Travis Harrison Apprentices Cup - Race 5, and from "Winning
Tender", winner of the Boss Hogs Class 1 Handicap - Race 6. |
