When the gates opened MANTIS reared in the air and lost ground as a consequence.

Near the 200 metres J Hallam (a), rider of MANTIS dropped his near side rein and as a result MANTIS rolled in behind GRANDWAY TREASURE.

Stewards questioned Ms L Williams, trainer of BURNT PEAT which weakened badly over the concluding stages. Ms Williams stated that the gelding was feeling the heat and also prefers to run over more ground. She further stated that the gelding appeared to pull up alright.

RACE THREE CLASS D HCP – 11OO M

On jumping away CHECK OR BET, which was slow away, threw it’s head up when being restrained and shifted in hampering ALKOOMI (NZ). In the straight CHECK OR BET raced greeenly which necessitated it’s rider J Hallam (a) to stop riding and straighten his mount on a number of occasions.

Stewards questioned M Osmond, rider of ALKOOMI (NZ), which got well back in the field during the early stages of the race. M Osmond stated that he was tightened early and that ALKOMI (NZ) was reluctant to race and resented the sand being thrown up. He then pulled the whip at the 700 metres to try and get the gelding to race and it improved from that point onwards.

Mr G Lazare, trainer of BECASSINE was fined $30 for presenting that mare at the mounting yard without it’s approved gear AR140A.

Rounding the turn TIBER had a tendency to lay out.
