RACE ONE CLASS 1 HCP – 13OO M

When the gates opened CHECK OR BET and GOLDEN SUPREMACY were slow into stride. Passing the 900 metres CHECK OR BET overraced onto the heels of HAPPY COAST and had to be eased.

Near the 100 metres BIRDSONG was taken out slightly by ADIAN WAY (J Hallam (a)) which shifted out to obtain a clear run. J Hallam (a) was notified that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to ensure he is 2 lengths clear before shifting ground.

1st HAPPY COAST. 2nd LITTLE PRO. 3rd ADIAN WAY.

RACE TWO CLASS 1 HCP – 1OOO M

On jumping away COLONEL FLYER which was slow into stride was tightened for room between LIMERICKS and BY JOE, both of which shifted. S Simon, rider of COLONEL FLYER stated that the gelding raced better when ridden near the lead and when he was tightened at the start the gelding got back in the race and performed poorly.

Near the 900 metres FINAL HURRAH (NZ) had a tendency to lay out onto DEL AREE.

Near the 700 metres DEL AREE had to be eased off the heels of FINAL HURRAH (NZ) which was laying out.

Approaching the winning post BUCKLERS HARD had to be eased off the heels of FINAL HURRAH (NZ) (J Hallam(a)) which shifted in. J Hallam (a) was reprimanded and notified that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to make a greater effort to straighten his mount than he did on this occasion.

Throughout the race FINAL HURRAH (NZ) raced greenly and hung out rounding the turn.

On the home turn BUCKLERS HARD was taken in onto DEL AREE by BY JOE

(S Burrows) which shifted in. S Burrows was notified that he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground in future.

1st JIM’S SHOUT. 2nd BRONZED OSSIE. 3rd UNCLE SCROOGE.

RACE THREE WELTER – 19OO M

As A Groves was to be 1.0 kilogram overweight to ride WAIT AND HOPE, Stewards permitted J Lorensini to replace him as the rider of that gelding.

1st COCUS. 2nd PROUD HARVEST. 3rd HICKEY PARK.

RACE FOUR MAIDEN HCP –12OO M

Mr G Lazare, trainer of MONSOON BABY notified the stewards that the mare was not racing today and that he had failed to lodge a scratching for it by the prescribed time. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of MONSOON BABY at 11.25am and imposed upon Mr Lazare a scratching fee of $200 (NT128).

After being placed in the barriers MAJESTIC ANNIE broke through the front gates and had to be reboxed.

When the gates opened STORM CONTROL bounded in the air and lost ground.

Near the 1000 metres NORTHERN EAGLE had to be eased off the heels of ISLAND CHARM (S Simon) which shifted in. S Simon was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground in future.

Near the 800 metres MAJESTIC ANNIE was tightened for room between ISLAND CHARM and SOLTRICE both of which shifted.

Near the 600 metres MAJESTIC ANNIE had to be eased off the heels of ISLAND CHARM when taken out by SOLTRICE which had a tendency to lay out.

Mr S Brown, trainer of SOLTRICE was fined $20 for using Club colours.

1st SILENT MAJORITY. 2nd STORM CONTROL. 3rd FLICKERING KEN.

RACE FIVE CLASS 5 HCP – 13OO M

On jumping away HURRICANE shifted out and bumped PADARICO. PADARICO then shifted out further, this resulted in MULBERRY and TREBORNIX (NZ) being tightened and TREBORNIX (NZ) being taken out and bumping the hindquarters of SPORTS GAIT.

Near the 200 metres DUAL RULER was tightened for room between SPORTS GAIT which shifted in slightly and HARMONY MIST (S Burrows) which shifted out when obtaining a clear run. S Burrows was reprimanded and notified that in similar circumstances in future he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear before shifting.

1st MULBERRY. 2nd HARMONY MIST. 3rd TREBORNIX (NZ).

RACE SIX CLASS 3 HCP – 16OO M

After being placed in the barriers BRAND NEW broke through the front gates and had to be reboxed.

Near the 250 metres H Bowman, rider of ARE EL dropped his whip.

1st BRAND NEW. 2nd OUR POWERBALL. 3rd TAMPICO.

RACE SEVEN PALMERSTON SPRINT – 12OO M

S Simon, rider of PALOOKA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 650 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HIGH REVS which resulted in HIGH REVS being tightened for some distance and having to be checked. S Simon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 18 August, 2001.

Near the 600 metres BUTKUS shifted out abruptly taking EIRE JESTER outwards.

Near the 250 metres CAJUN JESTER and ZILLIONARIE came together due to CAJUN JESTER being taken in slightly by BEYOND FEAR.

Stewards questioned Mr V Oldfield, trainer of FURNISH (NZ) , which had been scratched from this event under Veterinary advice.

Mr Oldfield stated that FURNISH (NZ) had a minor problem which he was confident would not prevent it from starting in the Darwin Cup.

Stewards notified Mr Oldfield that they would require a Veterinary Certificate to state that FURNISH (NZ) was fit to start in the Darwin Cup. He was further notified that such certificate would be required prior to 9.00am (scratching time) on Monday 6 August 2001.

1st EL COMBA. 2nd THE BIG FELLA. 3rd BEYOND FEAR.

All winners and the second placegetter in race 7 were swabbed today
