Rounding the home turn LA MEXA (NZ) (T Norton) had a tendancy to hang out, tightening PENTECOST momentarily onto TARCOOLA MAGIC which was racing on that gelding’s outside.

RACE TWO CLASS D HCP – 13OO M

Apprentice B Dieckmann, rider of ROYAL FIZZ was reprimanded for failing to claim his full entitlement (3kg) on ROYAL FIZZ. B Dieckmann had declared his MRW as 51.0kgs and was unable to ride below 53.5kgs in the race. B Dieckmann was notified that prior to riding at the next racemeeting he must ensure he has declared an appropriate MRW and that if he was unable to ride at his MRW in future he may be replaced and/or penalised.

After being placed in the barriers NEARMISS broke through the front gates and in so doing damaged both front gates. To avoid an unnecessary delay stewards ordered the withdrawal of NEARMISS at 2.07pm.

When the gates opened RED SOLICE and UMAHERO were slow to begin. Shortly after the start DESTINY OF MAN attempted to buck. Approaching the 650 metres MR CARDIN (NZ) began to improve and raced up onto the heels of SATYR KING. When being eased MR CARDIN (NZ) got its head up and hung out. P Shiers, rider of MR CARDIN (NZ) stated that after he had to ease he then had to go wide to get a run and in his opinion if the gelding had got a clear run it would have run a much better race.

Rounding the turn UMAHERO had a tendency to lay out.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected DESTINY OF MAN subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.

Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on NEARMISS to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of NEARMISS to be paid as follows- For the win, face value of the ticket less 19 cents in the dollar. RACE FIVE CLASS 6 HCP – 13OO M

When the gates opened KEW, LARAPINTA LAD and NORTHERN INDIES were slow into stride.

At about the 450 metres KEW brushed the inside running rail causing that gelding to change stride.

Stewards questioned J Hallam (a), rider of KEW about the manner in which he rode the gelding in the early stages of the race. J Hallam (a) stated that he restrained KEW early in the race as he wanted to race back in the field because it is the stable opinion that KEW races best coming from the back of the field. Mr S Brown, trainer of KEW stated that he had instructed J Hallam (a) to ride KEW in the manner he had done as he believes that it was in KEW’s best interest. After viewing the video Mr Brown stated that although J Hallam (a) may have overdone the instructions slightly he was satisfied with his ride and stated that KEW would be ridden in a similar manner in it’s future races.

1st EL CARTERO 2nd SUPER HENRY (NZ) 3rd COVER GAL

RACE SIX WELTER – 12OO M

When the gates opened ZILLIONAIRE bounded and lost considerable ground and RADICAL MOVER jumped inwards onto GALLIC CHIEF. D Bates, rider of RADICAL MOVER which weakened in the straight stated that the gelding was a bit disappointing however he believed a combination of being forced to race wide and the big weight was reason enough for it’s performance.

Approaching the first turn GALLIC CHIEF got its head up and raced ungenerously when being eased. Rounding the turn GALLIC CHIEF hung out.

Stewards questioned C Lever, rider of KUERTEN about the gelding’s performance. C Lever stated that he was caught wide down the back straight and when he eased near the 700 metres to take a position behind the leaders the gelding did not appreciate the sand being thrown back and was reluctant to gallop for the remainder of the race.

He stated that he gave the gelding a couple of cuts with the whip near the 700 metres and again near the 500 metres however it did not respond and in the straight failed to run on.

Mr S Clarke, trainer of BOZEMAN was fined $30 for presenting that gelding with blinkers when it is not approved to race in that gear.
