Darwin (NT) - Saturday 13 April 2002
WEATHER: FINE
TRACK: GOOD

RACE TWO MAIDEN HCP – 1OOO M

When the gates opened BYALAP stood flat footed and lost ground and then took some distance to muster speed.

On jumping away MYTH and SPECTOR came together.

M Osmond, rider of MYTH was fined $100 under AR137(b) for failing to rider his mount out to the winning post. The Stewards after considering the evidence were of the opinion that M Osmond actions in all likelihood cost MYTH fourth place.

G Clarke, rider of SPECTOR was given permission to ride that gelding 1kg overweight. G Clarke stated that he thought that he would be able to ride at 56.0kg today but was unable to get below 56.5kg. Stewards reprimanded G Clarke and notified him that if he was to be overweight in the future he may be penalised.

RACE EIGHT CLASS 2 HCP – 12OO M

MEASURE OF LUCK was slow into stride when the gates opened.

On jumping away CABIN jumped out onto TOUCH OF SCOTCH.

Stewards questioned J Hallam (a), rider of AIM TO PLEASE which had performed poorly. J Hallam (a) stated that he was taken wide around the corner by WICKED LOVE and when he attempted to improve his position rounding the turn the gelding was a beaten horse. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected AIM TO PLEASE subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg and the off hindleg.

Stewards questioned Ms A White, trainer of WICKED LOVE which performed below expectations. Ms White stated that she had expected the mare to perform better and that she could offer no explanation for it’s poor performance. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected WICKED LOVE subsequent to the event and reported that the mare had muscle soreness in the hindquarters
