 Race 1 - SUPER
VOBIS REGANZA HANDICAP - 1000 metres: "Ingres" began awkwardly, and shifted out
abruptly. After passing the 700 metres "Midsummer's Night"
became unbalanced, and shifted in abruptly towards "River Serenade". "Ingres" laid in under pressure over the
concluding stages of the race. Race 2 - SUPER VOBIS SKIPTON HANDICAP - 1615
metres: "Scenic Quest" was slow to begin. Near the 300 metres "Racer's Success" obtained a
run where there was not quite sufficient room between "Paris Commander", which
had shifted out slightly, and "Sur les Pointes", and as a result "Racer's
Success" bumped both those horses. In the incident "Racer's Success" was
accidentally struck on the head by the whip of G. Childs, rider of "Paris
Commander". Near the 200 metres "Trust 'n' Betrayal' was bumped by
"Paris Commander", which shifted in slightly. After passing the 200 metres "Encosta Legend" was
taken out off its course by "O'Canarvass" (B. Prebble), which shifted out under
pressure whilst hanging out. B. Prebble was reprimanded, and notified that he must stop
riding and straighten his mount in similar circumstances in future. Shortly after the start "Sur les Pointes" had to
be eased to avoid the heels of "Paris Commander". Also shortly after the start "Sur les Pointes"
was inconvenienced due to "Paris Commander" (G. Childs) shifting in when not
sufficiently clear. G. Childs was advised to exercise more care shifting ground in future. Race 3 - RUFFLES HANDICAP - 1000 metres:
         Approaching the 200 metres "Something
Funny" shifted out and obtained a run on the outside of "Williamtown
Lyric", and in so doing inconvenienced "Our Gemima". Race 4 - SUPER VOBIS WRAP AROUND HANDICAP -
1410 metres: M. Zahra, rider of "Models", was charged with
careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his
mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of "Aux Cayes", resulting in
"Aux Cayes" being taken in on to "Miss La La" which, in turn, was
taken in on to "Ruby Isabel", resulting in "Ruby Isabel" having to be
checked severely, and V. Hall, rider of "Ruby Isabel", becoming unbalanced. As
        M. Zahra wished to call his Master, the inquiry was adjourned until tomorrow morning,
Monday, at the VRC office at 9.30 a.m. After passing the 300 metres "Berlinetta", which
was laying in, had to be checked off the heels of "French Snip", which shifted
out slightly. Approaching the winning post "Miss La La" shifted
out and bumped "Nepal". V. Hall, rider of "Ruby Isabel", explained to the
Stewards that after having to check his mount near the 1000 metres the saddle had shifted
sideways on the filly, placing him at an extreme disadvantage. For that reason he had
eased the filly down. During the running of the race "Aux Cayes"
sustained a laceration to the off hind leg. A veterinary examination of "Ruby Isabel"
revealed that the filly had sustained a small cut to the inside of its near fore leg.
Race 5 - SUMMER SUNDAY HANDICAP - 1410 metres: P. Payne, rider of "Bunfight", explained to the
Stewards that he had eased the gelding down in the straight as he felt that there may be
something seriously amiss with "Bunfight". " A veterinary examination of
"Bunfight", revealed that "Bunfight" had a cardiac irregularity. Mr.
Aldersen, a representative of the Lee Freedman stable, was notified that prior to
"Bunfight" racing again he must produce a veterinary certificate of soundness,
which must include the satisfactory results of an ECG taken before and after exercise. On return to scale it was noted that "Lachaim"
had lost its near hind plate. Race 6 - TAJ QUILLO SPRINT - 1100 metres: "Rubison" collapsed in the mounting yard
following the race. "Bush Outlaw" knuckled on jumping away, resulting
in S. Arnold, its rider, being dislodged. Race 7 - POLO PRINCE HANDICAP - 1715 metres:
"Bellarine Lad" began awkwardly. In the early part of the straight "Anteego" had
difficulty obtaining a clear run. K. McEvoy, rider of "The Admiral (NZ)" which had
performed poorly, stated that he had intended to ride the gelding back in the field, but
due to "The Admiral (NZ)" over-racing he had been unable to restrain the gelding
in the early stages of the race. McEvoy went on to say that he elected then to allow
"The Admiral (NZ)" to stride forward, rather than being caught wide in the
middle stages of the race. A veterinary examination of "The Admiral (NZ)", which
performed poorly, revealed no apparent abnormality. A swab sample was ordered to be taken
from the gelding. A veterinary examination of "Bellarine Lad"
revealed that the gelding had sustained wounds to the near fore and near hind legs. Race 8 - THINK BIG HANDICAP - 2000 metres:
Near the 1700 metres "Hydromaster", which was
over-racing, shifted out across the heels of "Cause for Divorce", and clipped
the heels of that gelding. Near the 1400 metres "Balmuranz (NZ)" had to be
checked off the heels of "Cause for Divorce". "Cause for Divorce", which was eased down by its
rider in the straight, sustained lacerations to its near hind leg during the running of
the race, which resulted in "Cause for Divorce" being sore in that leg on
pulling up. Matthew Ellerton, trainer of "Cause for Divorce" was notified he
must produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding before it races again. A veterinary examination of "Tovenor" revealed
that the gelding had a small laceration to its near fore leg. SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of
all races today, and from "The Admiral (NZ)", which performed poorly in the Polo
Prince Handicap - Race 7. FINES/EXPLANATIONS: As there was no
other senior rider available at the weight, the Stewards permitted J. Winks to be
substituted as the rider of "Weary" in the Polo Prince Handicap - Race 7. |
