Gawler (SA) - Wednesday 10 October 2001

Track: Dead
Weather: Overcast/Cool
Rail: Normal position

RACE 1 – L R & M CONSTRUCTIONS/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division)

D. Carney replaced B. Claridge as the rider of ARGUFY (NZ) owing to a printer’s error showing B. Claridge as the rider of the gelding.

The start of this race was delayed two minutes owing to PRINCESS NICKY proving difficult to be placed in its stall. As a result Mr. S. Gower, trainer of that filly, was advised that a repetition of its behaviour at the barriers could lead to it being banned for a period.

TORMENTUS (S. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing from the 800 metres to in the vicinity of the 600 metres TWIN PEAKS (S. Price) showed a tendency to lay in and away from ICE ON MARS (D. Tootell) resulting in TWIN PEAKS and WISE CRACKER (J. Potter) bumping together on a number of occasions.

Racing inside the 300 metres CLASSIC STATUS (C. Lever) shifted in slightly; as a result TWIN PEAKS (S. Price) shifted in and away from that horse making contact with WISE CRACKER (J. Potter), resulting in that gelding placing pressure on the hindquarters of TWIN PEAKS, turning that filly inwards. In consequence WISE CRACKER was eventually forced to check and lose its position and PERFECT CLEAVAGE (B. Vale) was hampered in avoiding the heels of WISE CRACKER. Stewards took no further action as they believed no one rider was responsible.

Following the running of the race, J. Marks, who had been dislodged from SON OF GOLD, en route the barrier, was examined by the Club’s Surgeon and ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the day.

RACE 2 – L R & M CONSTRUCTIONS/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division)

W. Kerford replaced J. Holder as the rider of BANDWAGON owing to J. Holder being indisposed through illness.

DING D’OR (D. Tootell) jumped away awkwardly resulting in that filly shifting out onto LIMA JULIET (A. Stead) who in turn was taken out onto COUNTER CAPERS (P. Gatt) resulting in that filly being inconvenienced.

Racing inside the 500 metres VICE VANITY (C. Lever) became unbalanced for a short distance whilst racing on the inside of RUSSIAN VAULTER (S. Price).

Racing inside the 400 metres DISCOUNTER (D. Carney) shifted in slightly resulting in RUSSIAN VAULTER (S. Price) being taken in onto VICE VANITY (C. Lever) resulting in that gelding being tightened and being forced to lose its position. D. Carney was advised by Stewards that he was given the benefit of a very grave doubt as to whether he was solely responsible for this incident.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres DISCOUNTER (D. Carney) shifted in resulting in LIMA JULIET (A. Stead) being hampered and in turn disappointed for a run. D. Carney was advised by Stewards of his obligations when his mounts commence to shift ground.

RACE 3 – SMOKE-FREE 4Y&UP MAIDEN PLATE

TENOR BILL (J. Bowditch) showed a tendency to race fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres I AM THE MAN (S. Price), after receiving slight pressure from TENOR BILL (J. Bowditch), shifted in, resulting in BUICK (B. Neville) being inconvenienced.

RACE 4 – NATIONAL BLONDE DAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP

P. Gatt replaced J. Marks as the rider of ACCESS POINT.

A swab sample was taken from NORMOUS, winner of the race.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres MEAN GREEN (M. Hoppo) rolled in resulting in PRINCE OF REVELRY (B. Vale) being taken in onto ACCESS POINT (P. Gatt) resulting in that gelding being inconvenienced.

A veterinary inspection of PRINCE OF REVELRY following the running of the race revealed no visible abnormalities.

A veterinary inspection and endoscoping of MEAN GREEN following the running of the race revealed an upper respiratory infection and an internal lung haemorrhage.

RACE 5 – LE GROG CLASS 2 HANDICAP

The start of this race was delayed owing to ROSEANNE breaking through the front of its stall. That mare was quickly reined by its rider, P. Gatt, and was subject to a veterinary inspection which passed ROSEANNE fit to take its place in the field.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres LADY ROSELAND (B. Vale) shifted out slightly under riding; at the same time BAROSSA MUSIC (W. Kerford) shifted in resulting in ROSEANNE (P. Gatt), which was taking a tight run between those two horses, being forced to severely check to avoid the heels of BAROSSA MUSIC. In doing so, P. Gatt was almost dislodged from the mare. ROSEANNE was eased down and out of the race after this incident. Stewards took no further action but advised W. Kerford that, although not totally responsible for the incident, he would be required to have greater control over his mounts when they commence to weaken.

RACE 6 – D & M REAL ESTATE DISTANCE CLASS 1 HANDICAP

On advice from the Official Handicapper, Mr. A. Macdonald, that an error had appeared in the race book which inadvertently showed ZIPGAZER being weighted at 0.5kg below what he had officially weighted the mare, Stewards ordered that the appropriate correction to the weight of ZIPGAZER be made.

MARIZZIQUE (M. Neilson) was slow to begin.

IMPERIAL CHARTER (C. Symons) raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.

Racing inside the 200 metres CZARINA (P. Gatt) shifted in slightly resulting in LEAD ON (D. Carney) being taken in onto ZIPGAZER (J. Potter) which resulted in that mare becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

A veterinary inspection of MARIZZIQUE following the running of the race revealed lameness in the off foreleg.

The start of this race was delayed two minutes owing to MISTY GALORE breaking through the front of its stall. That mare was quickly reined in by its rider, D. Carney, and after undergoing a veterinary inspection, was passed fit to take its place in the field.

A swab sample was taken from DORADOS, winner of the race.

BRIDGET ANNE (T. Creek) was slow to begin.

On jumping away KING CROW (Darren Holland) jumped inwards; at the same time ILLUSTRIOUS RULER (M. Neilson) jumped outwards, resulting in MISTY GALORE (D. Carney) being inconvenienced between those two horses.

Racing to the 1100 metres KING CROW (Darren Holland) shifted in resulting in ILLUSTRIOUS RULER (M. Neilson) being tightened for galloping room and in turn being taken in onto BRIDGET ANNE (T. Creek) resulting in BRIDGET ANNE and ILLUSTRIOUS RULER racing for some considerable distance tight inside of KING CROW.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres JAZZ IT UP (L. Smith) shifted in slightly result in KING CROW (Darren Holland) being taken in onto ILLUSTRIOUS RULER (M. Neilson) who in turn was taken in onto BRIDGET ANNE (T. Creek) resulting in that mare having to be eased and losing its position. Darren Holland was advised by Stewards of his obligations when shifting in and Stewards believed that the pressure that he had applied to M. Neilson and T. Creek was bordering on excessive. Stewards also advised T. Creek of his obligations when his mounts commence to shift ground.

A veterinary inspection of FIGHTING FORCE following the running of the race revealed soreness in the lower back region.

RACE 8 – GAWLER COLOURWORLD CLASS 6 HANDICAP

BROOKSIDE STORM (C. Lever) showed a tendency to race fiercely in the early and middle stages of the event.

Racing inside the 400 metres, when disappointed for a run, BROOKSIDE STORM (C. Lever) accidentally clipped the heels of GANYMEDE (J. Bowditch) resulting in BROOKSIDE STORM falling. C. Lever was examined by the Club’s Surgeon and ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the day.
