Gawler (SA) - Sunday 24 March 2002

Track: Good
Weather: Fine/Hot
Rail: True

RACE 1 – OLD SPOT HOTEL GAWLER/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE

A MOONFLEET AFFAIR (B. Claridge) jumped awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres JIVE ANGEL (D. Azis), which was racing greenly, shifted off the fence for a short period before rolling back momentarily causing OTTOBELLO (J. Potter) to be hampered for a few strides.

JIVE ANGEL (D. Azis) continued to race greenly in the straight.

P. Gatt, the rider of SOUND BRASS, was issued with a warning for accidentally dropping his whip in the vicinity of the 100 metres.

RACE 2 – THE SANCTUARY HAIR & BEAUTY MAIDEN PLATE

In the vicinity of the 700 metres LEISEL WEASEL (J. Holder) shifted out causing UNFORGETTABLE (P. Gatt) to be steadied for a few strides. In consequence EVEN SCORE (M. HOPPO), which was racing behind UNFORGETTABLE, had to be steadied and as a result lost some ground.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres LEISEL WEASEL (J. Holder) shifted out at the same time as MADISON GARDENS (B. Claridge) shifted in and as a result BUICK (K. Louca) and GOD SENT (D. Carney), which were racing between those two horses, came together and became unbalanced for a short distance.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres ALCHEMY TIME (D. Azis) shifted out and inconvenienced SUN HALO (J. Potter).

In the vicinity of the 400 metres ALCHEMY TIME (D. Azis) shifted out onto BEAU LOTTO (J. Maund) at the same time as MILITIARA (Darren Holland) shifted in and brushed BUICK (K. Louca), which in turn shifted in and further hampered BEAU LOTTO (J. Maund) causing that gelding to lose a little ground.

In the vicinity of the 100 metres M. Neilson, rider of GINGA ‘N’ SPICE, accidentally dropped his whip when it made contact with the whip of M. Hoppo, the rider of EVEN SCORE.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary inspection of GOD SENT revealed that the gelding had returned with its tongue over the bit. Trainer, Mr. P. Jolly, advised Stewards that in future he would race GOD SENT in a tongue tie.

RACE 3 – WALKER & KEIPERT REAL ESTATE CLASS 1 HANDICAP

In the vicinity of the 300 metres TERTIAN’S GAMBLE (J. Potter) shifted in and hampered KATOOSH (J. O’Connor).

RACE 4 – LEXUS OF ADELAIDE/SABIS FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP

No Report.

RACE 5 – KEN BRERETON MEMORIAL CLASS 2 HANDICAP

LIMA JULIET (K. Louca) reared and shifted in as the gates were released and as a result hampered DIVINE ECHO (A. Stead).

RACE 6 – 2002 LRM GAWLER CUP

The start of this race was delayed when the cheeker on MISTER MANDEREE broke whilst the horses were behind the barrier. After a brief consultation with trainer, Mr. K. Sweeney, the broken cheeker was removed from MISTER MANDEREE and the gelding raced without that gear.

BLUE TED (D. Carney) was slow to begin.

DORADOS (P. Gatt) and MISTER MANDEREE (B. Claridge) were both momentarily held up for a clear run in the vicinity of the 300 metres.

Subsequent to the race a veterinary examination of BLUE TED revealed that the gelding had suffered a laceration to the off hind stifle. A further examination of BLUE TED revealed that its post race heart rate was lower than would be expected.

RACE 7 – SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2002 (HEAT 6)

SAXONY GIRL (M. Hoppo) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 200 metres DIMNESS (D. Carney) shifted in slightly and hampered HEARTEN’S MAGIC (W. Kerford), which in turn shifted in onto ANTIQUE CHAIR (P. Gatt).
