        HURDLE - 2950 metres:  After jumping the first hurdle near the 1000 metres
        "Korma" clipped the heels of "Arknavah" (J. Macmillan), which shifted
        in when not sufficiently clear.  Near the 800 metres the first time "Jethro" had
        to be checked off the heels of "Cicatrix". On straightening "Mighty Macarno", which was
        making ground, had to be checked off the heels of "Sampan Man". J. Macmillan, rider of "Arknavah", was severely
        reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.  Throughout the race "War Abandoned (NZ)" hung
        out. Subsequent to the event the Club's Veterinary Surgeon
        reported that "Our Sivart" was sore in the near fore leg. During the running of the race Jason Evans, rider of
        "Cicatrix", eased the gelding down in the straight. A veterinary examination
        revealed that "Cicatrix" was lame in the near fore leg.  Race 2 - ANTHONY'S CATERING SERVICE SUPER
        VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD COLTS AND GELDINGS MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:  On jumping away "Tara's Song" was tightened for
        room between "Samdin " and "Energy Abounds" due to both horses
        shifting ground. Race 3 - MERCURE HOTEL SUPER VOBIS
        THREE-YEARS-OLD FILLIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres:  No report. Race 4 - ETHERIDGE CLEANING CLASS 1 HANDICAP -
        1200 metres:  "Lightning Strikes" was slow to begin.  Race 5 - WORKSAFE VICTORIA CLASS 6 HANDICAP -
        1700 metres:  Shortly after jumping away "Kawasaki San (NZ)"
        had to be eased to avoid the heels of "Limerick Scene". On the home turn "Ahh Well" was held up for a
        run. At the entrance to the straight "Ahh Well" was
        accidentally struck on the head by the whip of Bronwyn Mathieson, rider of "Mr.
        Endurance".  Race 6 - BRINTONS CARPETS CLASS 2 HANDICAP -
        1700 metres:  Near the 1200 metres "Scalded Cat", when
        over-racing, had to be checked off the heels of "Hurricane Rose". Race 7 - CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 4 HANDICAP -
        1200 metres:  No report. Race 8 - CHARGOLD PROJECT MANAGEMENT CLASS 1
        HANDICAP - 2200 metres:  On jumping away "My Boy Alby" was tightened for
        room between "Audrey's Knight" and "Spirited Raami".  Passing the winning post the first time
        "Sovetsk" was tightened for room between "Yo Picasso", which shifted
        out when pulling hard, and "Trump That", which shifted in to avoid the heels of
        "Audrey's Knight". Approaching the winning post "Mukilteo" shifted
        in under pressure and inconvenienced "Karamal". SWAB SAMPLES were taken from "Hadawine
        (NZ)", the winner of the R. & B. Smith Holden Novice Hurdle - Race 1; from
        "Phidipides", the winner of the Etheridge Cleaning Class 1 Handicap - Race 4:
        from "Rhapsody in Red", winner of the Brintons Carpets Class 2 Handicap - Race
        6, and from "Over the Moon", winner of the Carlton Draught Class 4 Handicap -
        Race 7. A random swab sample was taken from "Mr.
        Endurance", which ran unplaced in the Worksafe Victoria Class 6 Handicap - Race 5. Five horses were pre-race blood tested for post-race
        analysis. |
