Kembla Grange (NSW) - Saturday 27 April 2002
Weather: Fine
Track: Good
Rail: 3m out

GENERAL: Apprentice L. Hellicar was reprimanded as she could not fulfil her engagements in Races 6 and 8 in not being able to claim her full allowance (LR70)

RACE 1: Warilla Bowls & Recreation Club - Port Kembla Returned Soldiers' Club Ltd Hcp 2yo Class D 1400m

A. Huke did not arrive on course by the required time due to transport difficulties. He was replaced on Golden Mollie by A. Marney. At the start High Adventure and Dance Kid were hampered for a short distance when Trireme (J. Lee) shifted in. J. Lee (Trireme) was advised that he was expected to stop and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Near the 1200m High Adventure dipped. Approaching the first turn Loverdale Miss commenced to lay out and continued to do so throughout. A post-race veterinary examination of Loverdale Miss revealed no abnormality. Dance Kid was inclined to lay in under pressure from approximately the 200m and then over the concluding stages, whilst continuing to lay in, rider J. Grisedale was obliged to stop riding when it laid in and brushed Trireme.

RACE 2: Andrews & Jakeman Chartered Accountants Hcp 2yo Class D 1000m

Miss Vettori jumped awkwardly and lost considerable ground. Devana was slow to begin. Shortly after the start Flash Nelson and No Idee were tightened between King of Soul, which shifted out, and Justabella. Leaving the 900m No Idee had to be steadied off the heels of King of Soul which shifted out slightly. Near the 600m No Idee was crowded between Wimaway, which shifted out slightly, and Justabella, which shifted in. Near the 500m Colty's Brother had to be steadied off the heels of Grey Onyx. After attempting to improve into a narrow run near the 300m to the inside of Grey Onyx, Colty's Brother was disappointed when Grey Onyx shifted in slightly then had to be shifted out across the heels of that runner to obtain clear running. Bolt Action, which was following, had to be steadied in consequence. Wimaway was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight and as a result near the 100m King of Soul had to be steadied off that colt's heels. A post-race veterinary examination of Daring Prince, which tailed off, revealed no abnormality.

RACE 3: Riverside Metal Industries Plate Entires & Geldings Maiden 1400m

Lucas Heights was slow to begin. Rubner and Kirlanilad were tightened on jumping between Through and Waterman, both of which shifted ground. In this incident Kirlanilad was further hampered when Waterman shifted in further. Approaching the first turn near the 1000m, Rubner shifted out slightly taking Kirlanilad across the heels of Imposing Friend. Imposing Friend was then inclined to hang out from that point and continued to do so throughout the middle stages. Passing the 300m Echo Lad had to be steadied off the heels of Rubner. Passing the 200m Bystander had to be steadied off the heels of Waterman (R. Thompson) which shifted out under pressure. R. Thompson was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. Over the concluding stages Echo Lad was hampered when Bystander (Apprentice C. Karakatsanis) further shifted out under pressure. (App.) C. Karakatsanis was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

RACE 4: Ego Pharmaceuticals Pty Ltd Hcp Class 1 1200m

Waiting jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Celtic Crossing and Tyranny bumped on jumping. About the 900m, due to the slow early pace, Waiting had to be checked off the heels of Roger Rabbit. J. Grisedale explained that Celtic Crossing was reluctant to go to the outside of Riu on straightening as the gelding was inclined to lay in slightly and when he first attempted to pull the whip he was of the belief that he hit the gelding a bit low, resulting in the gelding ducking in abruptly near the 300m. Near the 200m Ackdak ran out abruptly obliging its rider T. Jones to pull the whip through to the left hand in an attempt to straighten the gelding. In this incident Magique Miss and Magical Flight were hampered and taken wider.

RACE 5: AHA Melanoma Cup Open Class 1400m

King of Acapulco was slow to begin. Kamala Beach jumped awkwardly. When the pace slowed approaching the first turn near the 1100m, Commando Bay became awkwardly placed on the heels of Imposing Waltz, made contact with the running rail for a short distance, shifted out, hampering Romany Gypsy. Apprentice R. Bensley (King of Acapulco) was reprimanded for permitting that gelding to shift in, resulting in Imposing Waltz and Late Whisper being crowded and Late Whisper ultimately having to be steadied inside the 200m.

RACE 6: Facts & Figures Analysis - Illawarra's Own Natural Spring Water Hcp Class 3 1400m

Twickenham jumped awkwardly and consequently lost ground. Grand Raj was a little slow to begin and was then hampered by Sans Souci Star which shifted in. In the straight Rocksinga was inclined to lay in. When questioned regarding Catmint being ridden off the pace today, T. Jones stated that he was under instructions from Mr Jordan, Stable foreman, to ride the mare more quietly than she had been at her previous start at Warwick Farm on 17 April where she had over-raced when racing close to the lead. T. Jones stated that the mare settled well and he followed Roussky throughout the race where he shifted to the outside of that runner near the 500m. T. Jones added that on entering the straight he elected to improve to the inside of He's Lightning when that runner shifted out and then placed Catmint under pressure from that point.

RACE 7: St. George Illawarra Dragons Plate Fillies & Mares Maiden 1400m

Trainer Mr R. Price was reprimanded for not declaring rider A. Huke (Tinct) by the required time (LR35). On returning to scale a protest was lodged by Mr T. Karakatsanis trainer of equal 3rd dead heater Little Lippy against (App.) M. Howarth equal 3rd dead heater Stop The Show, on the ground of interference inside the 100m. After taking evidence from Mr T. Karakatsanis, (App.) C. Karakatsanis (Little Lippy), (App.) M. Howarth and trainer Mr K. Parker (Stop The Show) the Stewards found that inside the 100m Stop The Show shifted in under pressure and bumped Little Lippy. In view of both horses dead-heating, the Stewards were of the view that the interference materially affected the finishing positions of the respective horses and upheld the objection. Correct weight was subsequently declared on No. 6 Annunaki, No. 8 Character Builder and No. 1 Little Lippy. (App) M. Howarth (Stop The Show) was reprimanded and advised that he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion. Annunaki jumped awkwardly. La Western was hampered on jumping when Top Down shifted in. Character Builder had to be steadied off the heels of Top Down as it shifted across the heels of that runner to obtain clear running at the entrance to the straight. Near the 200m Annunaki was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of (App.) M. Howarth (Stop The Show).

RACE 8: Wollongong Skin Cancer Clinic Plate Provincial Class 1 1600m

Mr G. Shaw, trainer Executive Class, was reprimanded for failing to have that gelding on course by the required time. Segreto and Shellharbour Town were slow to begin. Sapphire Prince jumped awkwardly. Executive Class reared at the start and lost ground. Matif over-raced in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 300m Segreto had to be steadied off the heels of Kosta Natural which was tiring.
