Rail: RAIL OUT 5M FROM 1200 METRES TO HOME TURN.

Misstriano (NZ)  G. Eades  A. Findlay  Unavailable 

Race 1 - Trackside Tabaret SV 3YO Class 1 Handicap - 1600m. -

Prior to correct weight Reece Wheeler rider of Terrenora 3rd placegetter wished to view the Stewards patrol video in the straight. After viewing the video Reece Wheeler did not proceed with any objection.

Desert Falcon jumped away awkwardly and then shifted out away from Terrenora and brushed Hefty.

Approaching the 1200 metres Desert Falcon and Born To Dream brushed, which resulted in Born To Dream becoming unbalanced.

In the early stages of the race Desert Falcon hung out and approaching the 1200 metres the bit on the colt pulled through its mouth and Desert Falcon then hung out for the remainder of the race placing Fabian Alesci, the colt's rider at a disadvantage. Gary Coyne representing trainer Tony McEvoy was notified that an official warning would be placed against the colt, and should it behave in a similar manner in future, it may lead to some action being taken.

After passing the 200 metres Born To Dream shifted in under pressure and brushed Terrenora.

During the running of the race Pseudomorph suffered a bleeding attack. As Kerrin McEvoy the gelding's rider was unable to weigh in, Stewards deemed that Pseudomorph had carried its allotted weight and correct weight was declared.

Race 2- Cornfoot Bros Maiden Plate - 1600m -

Prior to correct weight Stewards viewed the video of the start to ascertain whether Box Poko, which had not jumped away with the field, had been denied a fair start. After taking evidence from Wayne Davis the gelding's rider, Mark Burnell trainer of Boz Poko, Ian MacIntosh the Starter and Todd Rawiller, Barrier Attendant and then after viewing the head on video of the start, Stewards deemed Box Poko to be a runner. It was established that Box Poko which had been restless in its stall, threw its head to the side when the gates opened and refused to jump away with the field. Mark Burnell trainer of Box Poko was notified that before the gelding would be permitted to start again, it must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Approaching the 400 metres Mr. Zadopek shifted out to obtain a run on the outside of Liquid Steel (NZ). Shortly after this Tarcoola Magic (Peter Mertens) shifted in and brushed Mr. Zadopek. Peter Mertens was notified that he must make every effort to keep his mounts straight in similar circumstances in future.

At the entrance to the straight Liquid Steel (NZ) and Tarcoola Magic brushed.

During the running of the race Misstriano (NZ) lost its near fore plate.

Race 3 - Premier Fruits SV 3YO Maiden Plate - 1100m -

On arrival at the barrier Hang On Soupy dislodged its rider Andrew Findlay and then galloped around the course for some distance before being caught. Acting on Veterinary advice Stewards withdrew Hang On Soupy at 1.47 p.m. and ordered the following betting deductions - All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Hang On Soupy to be refunded. All successful bets on horses prior to time of withdrawal of Hang On Soupy are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket - Win Bets - 12 cents, Place Bets - 11 cents, Winning Concession Bets - 12 cents, Doubles Bets - 12 cents. All monies bet after the Stewards declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.

Myth was slow to begin and then raced greenly for the remainder of the race.

Throughout the race Rose Bonbon also raced greenly.

Approaching the 800 metres Unsnippable, which was racing greenly, had to be eased off the heels of Rose Bonbon. Also near the 800 metres Padre's Mistake, which was over-racing had to be checked off the heels of Linrosa.

Race 4 - Greensborough RSL F & M Class 3 Handicap - 1600m -

Approaching the 800 metres Alephea shifted in and brushed the running rail.

Race 5 - Estate Smash Repairs Class 1 Handicap - 1200m -

Acting on a report from the Starter that Shanicity (NZ) had been difficult to load into the stalls, Stewards notified Gary Coyne, representing trainer Tony McEvoy that before Shanicity (NZ) would be permitted to start again he must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards and at the same time he must be in receipt of a Barrier Test.

Acting on a report from the Starter regarding the barrier manners of Miss Vittoria which had proved difficult to load, Stewards notified Modesto Poloni trainer of the mare that should Miss Vittoria behave in a similar manner in future, it may lead to some action being taken. Mr. Poloni was further notified that before Miss Vittoria is permitted to start again he must be in receipt of a Barrier Test. As a result of these incidents the start of the race was delayed.

Bonny Brew was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.

Approaching the 900 metres Lady Poetess shifted in abruptly and took on the running rail and then had to be severely checked. Neil Dyer trainer of Lady Poetess was notified that before the mare would be permitted to start again Lady Poetess must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an organised trial.

Approaching the 600 metres Triathlon brushed the running rail when tightened for room by Ambon, which when hanging in, shifted in.

Race 6 - Carlton Draught Open Handicap - 1200m -

Matthew Allen, when questioned regarding the poor performance of Marlie (NZ), stated to the Stewards that throughout the race the horse never travelled well at any stage of the race and in his opinion there may have been something amiss with its action. A subsequent Veterinary examination of Marlie (NZ) revealed no abnormalities.

Zinedan was slow to begin.

Race 7 - BGF Bananas Class 2 Handicap - 2100m -

In the early and middle stages of the race Festivus over-raced.

In the straight Extorted (USA) and River Of Kingston raced tight for some distance.

Race 8 - Renown Silverware Class 4 Handicap - 1900m -

Brian Park rider of Firetaine (NZ) stated to the Stewards that he rode the gelding back in the field as instructed and in his opinion the gelding was not suited by the slow early pace and when the pace quickened from the 800 metres on, Firetaine (NZ) failed to respond to his riding but then made good ground in the straight.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for Mr. B. Johnson, registered foreman, for failing to wear his strappers number, when leading Farmers News in the mounting yard prior to the race when requested by the Stewards to do so. After taking evidence from Mr. Brian Johnson, Stewards adjourned the matter to a date to be fixed.

Race 9 - Leader Newspaper F & M Maiden Plate - 1200m -

An amended stable return was lodged by Bill Mitchell trainer of Honour Her Name, 3rd placegetter showing Mr. G. Zarra, Mrs. P. Andrews, Mr. G. Andrews, Mr. W. Fletcher, Mrs. M. Lehman, Mr. J. Remman, Mrs. S. Remman, Mr. S. Lee, Mr. J. Yarrow as the lessees of the filly.

When the gates opened Honour Her Name reared and lost ground.

In the early part of the straight Pure Grace was hampered on two occasion due to Flighting shifting out under pressure.

Andrew Findlay rider of Honour Her Name was notified he must ride all his mounts out hands and heels to the line.

SWAB SAMPLES -

Swab samples were taken from the following winners - Terrace (NZ) (Race 1), Liquid Steel (NZ) (Race 2), Shanicity (NZ) (Race 5), Kentucky Hula (Race 6), Fillary (Race 8)

Pre-race blood samples were taken from the following horses for post race analysis - Race 1 - Hefty, Born To Dream, Race 7 - Extorted (USA), Arabian Towers, Race 8 -Firetaine (NZ) Farmer News.

FINES & EXPLANATIONS -

Mr. B. Myers trainer of Gold Venture (Race 6) was fined $30 for using wrong colours on the gelding.
