Track: Dead
Weather: Overcast & Showery
Rail: Out 1 metre entire circuit

RACE 1 : CARBINE CLUB HANDICAP 1100 metres

TOPSWAN (D. Azis) jumped away awkwardly.

HOYDEN (W. Kerford) was slow to jump.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres RACHAEL’S PRIDE (G. Dorol) shifted in and brushed DANCING LASS (J. Maund) on several occasions.

Approaching the 400 metres NANCY ELEANOR (B. Prebble) was held up for a short distance when racing inside DANCING LASS (J. Maund), which had commenced to race greenly.

AUTOPLAY lost its off fore plate during the race.

RACE 2 : HONDA FILLIES HANDICAP 1200 metres

OOMPH was withdrawn by Stewards at 11.00 am acting on veterinary advice that the filly had an elevated temperature and was unfit to start.

ALENKO (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres AUTUMN BELLE (J. Winks) rolled in and brushed BOLD REEF (J. O’Connor), which shifted in, contacting BIOCARD (Damien Holland) resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

Approaching the 400 metres OH SO DISCREET (C. Lever) was inclined to lay out when attempting a tight run inside BOLD REEF (J. O’Connor), which was inclined to lay in as it commenced to weaken, resulting in OH SO DISCREET being disappointed and obliged to check off the heels of BOLD REEF. For a short distance thereafter OH SO DISCREET was unable to obtain clear ground and as a result C. Lever was obliged to alter course.

Correct Weight for this event was delayed to allow C. Lever, the rider of OH SO DISCREET, to view the official footage in the vicinity of the home turn. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, C. Lever declined to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

P. Carbery, the rider of LEISEL WEASEL, reported that the filly was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.

C. Lever, the rider of OH SO DISCREET, confirmed that approaching the entrance to the straight he had shifted back towards the fence to attempt a tight run inside BOLD REEF. He explained that he had then been disappointed as a result of his own mount being inclined to lay out at the same time as BOLD REEF was inclined to lay in.

Subsequent to the event a veterinary examination of ALENKO revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 3 : SMOKE-FREE SIRES PRODUCE STAKES 1600 metres

C. Lever was questioned regarding being unable to make the required weight of SHALINI. After considering his explanation, he was fined $100 in accordance with ARR 120B.

At the entrance to the straight DEXTROUS (D. Gauci), which was held up momentarily, shifted out and brushed HYDROMETER (J. Holder). DEXTROUS was held up for a short distance thereafter.

Inside the 400 metres HANDSOME COLOURS (B. Prebble) rolled out under pressure tightening COBAMUSE (G. Dorol) onto SHALINI (P. Carbery) at the same time as SHALINI was taken in by MILANOVA (K. McEvoy). As a result both SHALINI and COBAMUSE were inconvenienced.

HANDSOME COLOURS (B. Prebble) continued to lay out under pressure in the straight.

B. Prebble, the rider of HANDSOME COLOURS, explained that his mount had travelled very well until entering the straight, however, after reaching the lead shortly afterwards, he formed the view that the gelding lost interest. He added that over the concluding 300 metres, HANDSOME COLOURS had failed to respond to his riding. Subsequent to the event a veterinary inspection of HANDSOME COLOURS revealed no visible abnormalities.

Subsequent to the event a veterinary inspection of FAMILY ADDITION revealed it was exhibiting a poor recovery, an elevated heart rate and an indication of oxygen debt.

RACE 4 : SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2002 1200 metres

ZEDIMBI, which refused to load, was withdrawn by Stewards at 1.50 pm. Stewards ruled that all monies invested on ZEDIMBI be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 10 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 10 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

Mr. M. Minervini, the trainer of ZEDIMBI, was advised that the gelding must prove that it can be loaded satisfactorily in an organised trial before accepting for a future event.

Near the 1000 metres BRINKLEY LASS (S. Baster) rolled out resulting in SOUPLESSE (NZ) (K. McEvoy) abruptly reacting away inconveniencing SEATTLE KEN (J. Maund).

RACE 5 : FELTEX CARPETS OAKS 2500 metres

ARBORETUM (D. Gauci) got its head up and raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

Near the 1800 metres EMBRACEABLE YOU (NZ) (S. Arnold) got its head up whilst being steadied and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

Approaching the 600 metres EMBRACEABLE YOU (NZ) (S. Arnold) steadied away from the heels of SHE’S ARCHIE (P. Mertens), which commenced to shift out.

Near the 600 metres THE MIGHTY LIONS (NZ) (K. McEvoy) shifted out and brushed SHE’S ARCHIE (P. Mertens), which became unbalanced. Shortly after THE MIGHTY LIONS (NZ) was obliged to check off the heels of GEIGER GOLD (C. Lever) as that filly was taken out by CORMEYER (T. Creek). ARBORETUM (D. Gauci), which was trailing GEIGER GOLD, became held up for a short distance.

At the entrance to the straight GEIGER GOLD (C. Lever) was obliged to check off the heels of CORMEYER (T. Creek) as that filly was taken out by SURSUM CORDA (NZ) (N. Rawiller).

Stewards acceded to a request by Mr. T. Bailey, representing Mr. A. Bailey, the Trainer of SUZY GREY, to withdraw that mare owing to the downgrade of the track. SUZY GREY was withdrawn by Stewards at 2.04 pm

On jumping away THE BIG CHILL (NZ) (S. Price) was inconvenienced by SUIT (W. Kerford), which shifted out.

Near the 1000 metres MARSTIC (A. Spiteri) was obliged to steady off the heels of FEEL THE NOISE (J. Winks), which shifted in. As a result MARSTIC shifted in onto KAPUNA (D. Tootell), which was inclined to lay in onto BRADSHAW (P. Mertens) tightening that gelding onto POINT DANGER (K. McEvoy), which was forced to steady and lose its position. J. Winks was advised that although not totally responsible for the incident he would be required to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled in future.

Inside the 300 metres THE BIG CHILL (NZ) (S. Price) shifted out onto MARSTIC (A. Spiteri), which was inclined to lay away, and shifted out onto COSMIC STRIKE (T. Creek) taking that filly out onto OLD FASHION (S. Miller) taking that gelding out onto ROYAL CODE (B. Prebble), which was forced to check and lose its position. KEN CHEVAL (Damien Holland) was hampered in consequence. S. Price was advised that although not singularly responsible for the incident he would be expected to exercise greater care in future.

RACE 7 : STUART CRYSTAL STAKES 1600 metres

Stewards acceded to a request by Mr. R.F. Cameron, the Trainer of TAYLOR DANE, to withdraw that filly owing to the downgrade of the track. TAYLOR DANE was withdrawn by Stewards at 12.44 pm

McEvoy, the Trainer of SAHAYB (NZ), confirmed that he would recommend to the owner that the filly now be retired.

RACE 8 : DUNLOP FLOORING HANDICAP 2500 metres

J. Potter was notified as the rider of RAQUETS (NZ) owing to no other suitable senior rider being available.

The start of this race was delayed owing to LANCE CORPORAL requiring farrier attention.

In the vicinity of the 1500 metres INFLEWINZER (W. Kerford) was obliged to steady off the heels of SHUTAYR (P. Gatt). Thereafter INFLEWINZER was inclined to race ungenerously for a short distance.

D. Gauci, the rider of COMFORTS, was questioned in relation to him having stopped riding the gelding near the 200 metres. D. Gauci explained that, in his opinion, the gelding was not responding to his riding. He was advised that in future he would be required to continue to ride his mounts to the finish of a race. Subsequent to the event a veterinary inspection of COMFORTS revealed the gelding had a lower than expected heart rate.
