metres An enquiry into the reason for the late notification of the
rider of "Adderley" was adjourned to a date to be fixed. A veterinary examination of "Wrangler Chief"
subsequent to the event revealed no apparent abnormality. Approaching the hurdle near the 800 metres "Connemara
Marble" was tightened for room between "Swamp Fox" and "Pure
Control". Race 2 - Carlton Draught Maiden Plate - 1200
metres On jumping away "El Illusion" had to be checked
when tightened for room between "Savage Scene" and "Save The Reef"
which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in. Shortly after this incident "Natural
Spirit" had to be eased to avoid the heels of "Pay the Wina" (E. Cassar)
which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. E. Cassar was reprimanded and notified he
must exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Approaching the 600 metres "Prince Djebel had to be
checked off the heels of "Natural Spirit". After passing the 200 metres
"Natural Spirit" brushed the rail and became unbalanced due to "Save The
Reef" which was laying in, shifting in. Race 3 - Steeples Tabaret Super Vobis 2 Years Old
Fillies Maiden Plate - 1000 metres "Nul Autre" which injured itself in the walking
ring was withdrawn from the race at 12.47pm. Mr D Brideoake, trainer of "Nul
Autre" was notified he must produce a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to
"Nul Autre" racing again. "She's Uncanny" got her head up on jumping away
and lost ground. "Preferential" and "Goldburst" both hung in under
pressure in the straight. Race 4 - Limerick Lane Thoroughbreds Class 2
Handicap - 1200 metres Acting on a confirmed phone call that "Unhurried
Days" was found to be lame in the near foreleg subsequent to scratching time,
Stewards withdrew the gelding from the event at 10.45am. Mr R Griffiths the trainer of
"Unhurried Days will lodge a veterinary certificate in respect of the gelding. Near the 600 metres "Hurricane Vic" clipped the
heels of "Windsor Star" (R. Wheeler) which was shifting in whilst being
steadied. As a result of this "Hurricane Vic" blundered. As the Stewards had
some doubt as to whether "Hurricane Vic" had shifted out slightly at this stage
they took no action but severely reprimanded R Wheeler and notified him he must ensure he
is clear of other runners when shifting ground in future. On straightening "Hurricane Vic" had to be eased
when tightened for room by "Lucky Punch" (C Quilty), which shifted in. As the
Stewards believed "Hurricane Vic" had a tendency to lay out at this stage they
took no action other than to reprimand C Quilty, and notify him he must leave comfortable
room for runners on his inside in future. Race 5 - R M Ansett Classic - 1500 metres
Approaching the home turn, "Another Neptune"
which was weakening was hampered due to "Le Zagaletta" shifting out slightly. Race 6 - Bob Smith Carpet Choice Class 1 Handicap
        - 2000 metres Near the 600 metres B Park rider of "Campbell"
dropped his whip. On jumping away "Achernar" was hampered due to
"Temple of Gold jumping away awkwardly and shifting in. Near the 800 metres "Temple of Gold" was
tightened for room by "Campbell" which shifted in away from "Obeah
Man" which shifted in slightly. Race 7 -Guinot Australia Fillies and Mares Class 3
Handicap - 1500 metres Near the 100 metres "Nanbrooke Princess"
faltered. Race 8 - Adairs Super Vobis Three Years Old
Fillies Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres On jumping away "Miss Bombastic" shifted out and
bumped "La Tonkiki" Near the 900 metres "Miss Bombastic" raced tight
between "Moscow Miss" and "La Tonkiki" which was taken in further by
"Zakynthos Star" (R Wheeler). Whilst the Stewards accepted that "Moscow
Miss" had shifted out slightly in the latter stages of the incident, R Wheeler was
notified he must exercise far more care when shifting ground in future. Also near the 900 metres "Bonny Brew" had to be
eased off the heels of "Moscow Miss". E Cassar rider of "Linrosa"
which had weakened over the concluding stages of the race advised the Stewards that his
mount had hung out in the middle stages of the race and had weakened in the straight. He
added that there did not appear to be anything wrong amiss with "Linrosa" on
pulling up. Rounding the home turn "Molly Ellen (NZ)" hung
out. SWAB SAMPLES - Routine swab samples were taken from the following winners: Race 5 NotationRace 8 Zakynthos Star
