RETIREMENT VILLAGE FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1500 metres: On jumping away "Star Lyn" and
"Chemeketa" brushed. Shortly afterwards "Star Lyn", when being eased,
got its head up and lost ground. Near the 1200 metres "Umagirl" had to be
restrained off the heels of "Zartois (NZ)". On the home turn "Our Kate (NZ)" was temporarily
held up for a run. Shortly after straightening "Racing Dot" had to
be eased when attempting to take a narrow run on the inside of "Jim's Tonic". Approaching the winning post "Jim's Tonic" had to
be eased when tightened for room by "Zartois (NZ)", which shifted in away from
"Our Kate (NZ)", which shifted in slightly. Race 2 - PRIMELIFE KOOROOTANG COURT RETIREMENT
VILLAGE FOUR YEARS OLD AND UP MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. D. Bourne,
trainer of "Sivas", who stated that due to unforeseen circumstances the mare
would not arrive on course in time to fulfil its engagement, the Stewards ordered the
withdrawal of "Sivas" at 10.05 p.m. On jumping away "Old Swampy" and
"Ambered" bumped. Shortly afterwards "Old Swampy" and
"Ambered" were tightened for room between "Jungle Trail", which
shifted in, and "Jade Street", which shifted out slightly. Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the
straight "Racer's Plume" was held up for a run. Race 3 - PRIMELIFE VILLAGE WILLIAMSTOWN SUPER
VOBIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres: On arrival at the course "Mari Cha" was examined
by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported that the filly had swelling to the off knee
and was unfit to run. Acting on this advice the Stewards scratched "Mari Cha"
from the event at 12.47 p.m. On jumping away "Striking Charge" shifted in and
tightened "Lie Detector" and "Theatregoer".. Shortly afterwards "Nothin' like Fame" shifted
out abruptly and inconvenienced "Theatregoer" and "Lie Detector". Race 4 - PRIMELIFE PORT PHILLIP RETIREMENT
VILLAGE SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-0LD MAIDEN PLATE (1) - 1200 metres: "Celtic Melody" was slow to begin. Near the 800 metres "Steloka" was tightened for
room by "Jagnic", which was taken in by "Jaraji", which shifted in. B.
Park, rider of "Jaraji", was reprimanded and and notified to exercise far
greater care in future. At the entrance to the straight "Celtic Melody"
shifted in and inconvenienced "Oopey". Race 5 - PRIMELIFE CUMBERLAND VIEW RETIREMENT
VILLAGE SUPER VOBIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (2) - 1200 metres: On jumping away "Always Exceptional" knuckled. Race 6 - PRIMELIFE PLATE - 1200 metres: Prior to correct weight D. Oliver, rider of
"Declare", a dead-heater, requested to view the photo finish print. After
viewing the print D. Oliver agreed with the Judge's decision, and correct weight was
semaphored. "Manhattan Von" was slow to begin. The Stewards questioned A. Findlay, rider of "Nazzaro
(NZ)", regarding his riding in the straight. Findlay stated that the gelding was
better suited in longer races, and that, if he had endeavoured to improve his position at
the entrance to the straight when "Augusta" shifted out, he would have been
forced to race wider. Findlay added that he then rode "Nazzaro (NZ)" hands and
heels over the concluding stages of the race. Whilst the Stewards accepted Findlay's
explanation, they notified him that he has to show more vigour when in similar
circumstances in future.. Subsequent to the event the Club's Veterinary Surgeon
reported that his examination of "Little Pearler" failed to reveal any
abnormality. Race 7 - PRIMELIFE WATERFORD VALLEY RETIREMENT
VILLAGE CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1500 metres: "Hercules Morse (NZ)" was slow to begin. Race 8 - RENAISSANCE T.V. CLASS 2 HANDICAP -
1200 metres: Whilst parading in the mounting yard "Rancho
Caught" struck a partition. "Rancho Caught" was examined by the Club's
Veterinary Surgeon prior to being boxed, and was passed fit to run. Race 9 - CARLTON DRAUGHT
CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 2000 metres: Near the 600 metres "Wijan" was tightened
for room between "Festivus" on the outside, and "Arabian Towers",
which shifted out. During the running of the race "Rubigate"
suffered a bleeding attack. As this is the second time that "Rubigate" has bled,
this gelding is now banned from racing. SWAB SAMPLES were taken from
"Chemeketa", winner of the Primelife Lexington Gardens Retirement Village
Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate - Race 1; from "Banff", winner of the Primelife
Koorootang Court Retirement Village Four-Years-Old and Up Maiden Plate - Race 2; from

of "Marincanto", was fined $50 for presenting the filly in the mounting yard
without blinkers when "Marincanto" is a blinkered horse. |
