Race 1 - ELIZA PARK HANDICAP
        - 1000 metres: "Hello Boys", which was kicked by another runner
at the barrier, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to run. "Sylvaner (NZ)" was slow to begin. On jumping away "Flewella" shifted out and took
"Radioactive Star" out on to the hindquarters of "Rich Ruby Red",
turning that mare inwards and resulting in "Rich Ruby Red" losing ground. "Crixia threw its head in the air after jumping away,
and raced ungenerously for a short distance. Shortly after the start the saddle on "Hello
Boys"`shifted back, which caused B. Fenech, its rider, some inconvenience for the
remainder of the race. "Rich Ruby Red" had some difficulty obtaining a
clear run rounding the home turn. Luke Currie, rider of "Rich Ruby Red", stated
that the mare had a tendency to lay in, in the straight. Whilst accepting that "Rich
Ruby Red" did have a tendency to lay in, the Stewards notified Luke Currie that they
would expect him in future to show more vigour hands and heels than he did over the
concluding stages today. Race 2 - NEXT CONCEPT HANDICAP - 1200 metres:
No report. Race 3 - LESLIE FROGGATT STAKES - 1200 metres:
"Super Scope" was slow to begin, and was hampered
shortly after the start when tightened for room between "Andalay", which shifted
out, and "Cooke Street (NZ)", which knuckled and shifted in slightly. Near the 800 metres "Cyberiad" had to be eased
off the heels of "Environs", which shifted in. Near the 500 metres "Alto Ego", which was
shifting ground, shifted in and bumped "Super Scope" on the hindquarters. Race 4 - WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS ALISTER
CLARK STAKES - 1600 metres: "Ebony Night" was slow to begin. At the entrance to the straight "Royal Code" and
"Dash for Cash" brushed as "Dash for Cash" was endeavouring to take a
narrow run between "Royal Code" and "Mr. Trickster". Race 5 - 3AW AUSTRALIA STAKES - 1200 metres: Prior to correct weight G. Childs, rider of "North
Boy", third placegetter, viewed the Stewards' patrol video and the TV version of the
race before deciding to lodge an objection against "Toledo" being declared the
winner on the grounds of alleged interference from the 400 metres to the entrance to the
straight.. After the parties had viewed the Stewards' patrol video and the TV version of
the race, and after they had listened to the submissions of the parties concerned, the
Stewards dismissed the objection. It was established that "North Boy" was hampered
when tightened for room between "Toledo", which improved on its outside and
shifted in slightly when racing tight on the inside of "Show a Heart", and
"Bomber Bill", which shifted out in an endeavour to obtain a run on the outside
of "Sports", which shifted out. On jumping away "Black Bean" was tightened for
room between "Show a Heart" and "Desert Sky", which shifted in After passing the 800 metres "Black Bean" broke
down and was pulled up by its rider. Running to the 600 metres "Taimana (NZ)" became
unbalanced when tightened slightly between "Desert Sky" and "Sports". Approaching the 400 metres "North Boy", which had
a tendency to lay in, shifted in and inconvenienced "Taimana (NZ)". N. Rawiller, rider of "Bomber Bill", was found
guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that he shifted out on
the home turn when not sufficiently clear of "Desert Sky" to obtain a run on the
outside of "Sports", which resulted in "Desert Sky" having to be
checked. N. Rawiller was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at
midnight on Wednesday, 27th March, and to expire at midnight on Sunday, 14th
April, 2002. A veterinary examination of "Taimana (NZ)", which
weakened from the home turn revealed that it had sustained a small wound to its off fore
leg. During the running of the race "Fair Embrace"
lost its near hind plate. Race 6 - SUNLINE STAKES - 1600 metres: No report. Race 7 - ROSEMOUNT ESTATE OAKS - 2020 metres:
"Elegant Fashion" hung in under pressure towards
"Damaschino" over the concluding stages of the race. "Gold Lottey" also hung in over the concluding
stages of the race. "Periphery" had difficulty obtaining a clear run
rounding the home turn. Just prior to straightening "Night Chaser" was
hampered and "Carnebelle (NZ)", which was weakening, was also hampered when
tightened for room by "Tully Thunder", which was taken in slightly by
"Numilla", which shifted in away from "Moon Dragon", when weakening. During the running of the race "Gold Lottey" lost
its near fore plate. Race 8 - CROWN AFTER THE LAST HANDICAP
        - 1600 metres: Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Mr. P. Healey,
trainer of "Mr. Bombastic", who stated that the gelding had sustained an injury
to its neck and was unfit to run, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of "Mr.
Bombastic" at 11.22 a.m. Mr. Healey will submit a veterinary certificate for the
gelding. Shortly after the start "Ekalaka" was hampered
when tightened for room between "Soviet Draw"', which shifted out, and
"Lord Kingston", which shifted in due to both horses shifting ground. In the early part of the straight "Adolescence"
shifted out and obtained a run on the outside of "Captivator", and made contact
with "Thong Classic". "Adolescence" was then tightened for room
between "Thong Classic" and "The A Train (NZ)" which, when making
ground, had to be checked off the heels of "Tiger's Eye (GB)", which was
weakening. Prior to correct weight D. Nikolic, rider of
"Captivator", second placegetter, viewed the photo finish video, and agreed with
the Judge's placings. SWAB SAMPLES were taken from the winners of
        all races today. |
