Mount Gambier (SA) - Thursday 30 May 2002
Track: Dead
Weather: Fine & Cool
Rail: True

RACE 1 – MORPHETT ARMS HURDLE – 3100 metres

RASTAQ (J. MacMillan) jumped the hurdle, situated near the 1600 metres, awkwardly.

RACE 2 – STAR FM / BRUMBIES SIGNWRITING / SABIS DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 2050 metres:

Upon jumping away MILLION STORMS (K. Post) shifted out, making contact with MALAKHOV (A. Peterson).

J. Julian, rider of LEDLYTA, was questioned by Stewards in relation to his whip action on the gelding, in the vicinity of the 700 metres. J. Julian stated the gelding had shown a tendency to lay in and for that reason had waved the whip in his left hand to encourage the horse to straighten. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by J. Julian and further reminded him of his obligations.

C. Puls, rider of LORD REHNSHAW, reported to Stewards the gelding hung out for the entire race. A subsequent Veterinary examination of LORD REHNSHAW revealed the gelding had cuts to the inside and corners of its mouth. Mr. T. Gilcrist, Trainer of LORD REHNSHAW, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event.

ZENAKAY (NZ) lost its near hind plate during the running of the event.

RACE 3 – SOMERFIELD’S CARPET COURT / BRIDGESTONE UNDERLAY 4-YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres

IM A REDDY was late scratching at 12.35 p.m., when confirmation had been received by its Trainer Mr. K. Daffey, that he had sent a Scratching for the gelding by facsimile to the RSB Office the previous day. Stewards advised Mr. Daffey of the correct procedures required in order to officially scratch a runner.

Upon jumping away DEAL AN ACE (K. Post) shifted in onto STAR OPERATOR (J. Dertilis), who in turn shifted in onto DON’T CALL ME BABY (S. Harrison), resulting in that gelding being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 900 metres STAR OPERATOR (J. Dertilis), which had been racing keenly, had to be eased from the heels of MYSTICAL FORCE (C. Lindop).

Racing to the 200 metres TWIG PRANCER (D. Mittiga) shifted in under riding, resulting in DON’T CALL ME BABY (S. Harrison) being tightened and having to be checked. D. Mittiga was advised that under similar circumstances he would be required to act in a far quicker manner.

RACE 4 – MIDFIELD MEATS INTERNATIONAL / O’SULLIVAN’S TRANSPORT CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1580 metres

PHARO’S REVENGE (D. Yendall) showed a tendency to hang out for the majority of the race, and over the concluding 200 metres shifted out several horses under pressure.

OUR SHIVOO (S. Harrison) was eased out of the event over the concluding 300 metres of the event, when that rider became concerned with its action. A subsequent Veterinary examination of OUR SHIVOO revealed that it was short in its action in its near fore leg.

RACE 5 – PEGLER PERSONNEL COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

KID DAPPER (K. Post) was slow to begin.

VISTAWAY (J. Julian) jumped away awkwardly.

Correct Weight was delayed to allow G. Hoobin rider of COFF’S MAGIC the 2nd Placegetter, and D. Yendall, rider of JUGLAVEIN the 3rd Placegetter, to view the Official head-on video over the concluding 600 metres. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, D. Yendall declined to proceed with an objection. G. Hoobin, rider of COFF’S MAGIC, after viewing the video lodged an objection against M. Neilson, rider of NORTHERN CASTLE the winner, on the grounds of alleged interference between the 600 and the 400 metres. After taking evidence from all parties, viewing the official video film and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed G. Hoobin’s objection.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres M. Neilson, rider of NORTHERN CASTLE, shifted out slightly to improve its position. Shortly after CROWN EAGLE (NZ) (C. Robertson, which was racing inside of NORTHERN CASTLE, shifted out abruptly, taking that gelding out slightly. In consequence COFF’S MAGIC (G. Hoobin), which was racing outside the heels of NORTHERN CASTLE, became tightened and had to be eased from the heels of that gelding. As a result JUGLAVEIN (D. Yendall), which was trailing COFF’S MAGIC, had to be eased to avoid the heels of that gelding.

RACE 6 – AVALON MOTEL DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 2050 metres

DANNICK (P. Gatt) knuckled over on jumping away.

A. Peterson, rider of INDIGO ISLE, reported to Stewards the gelding had shown a tendency to hang out when being restrained and for that reason allowed the gelding to stride forward in an endeavour to get it to race tractably. When allowed to go forward INDIGO ISLE raced keenly and A. Peterson was then unable to bring the gelding back to the field.

Over the concluding 200 metres of the event INDIGO ISLE (A. Peterson) hung out further and shifted ground under pressure.

RACE 7 – ADELAIDE BANK HANDICAP – 1580 metres

No report.

RACE 8 – INDEPENDENT STALLION STATION / SABIS 2 Y & UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1580 metres

Mr. H. Parsons, Trainer of RECKLESS CRUZ, was questioned by Stewards as to the late declaration of K. Post for the gelding. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by Mr. Parsons and no further action was taken.

Upon jumping away ZAMLADY (C. Cole) shifted in onto GOSPEL ROAD (C. Puls) and at the same time RECKLESS CRUZ (K. Post) shifted out onto CROMMY’S DAUGHTER (J. Potter) and as a result OAKWAY (B. Blacker), which was racing in between those horses, was tightened and inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres and for some distance, BLEVITA (P. Gatt), which had been racing ungenerously, had to be eased on a number of occasions from the heels of DUNGAREES (G. Hoobin), when that gelding shifted in slightly, and at the same time slackened the pace.

At the 1200 metres CROMMY’S DAUGHTER (J. Potter) shifted in slightly and eased the pace, resulting in WESTROCK JET (W. Kerford), which was racing behind CROMMY’S DAUGHTER, having to be eased and in doing so that mare got its head in the air and raced ungenerously.

Racing to the 1200 metres ZAMLADY (C. Cole), which had been racing extremely fiercely and shifting ground, shifted out and hampered POWERFUL MAN (NZ) (S. Harrison). ZAMLADY continued to race ungenerously for some distance.
