Mount Gambier (SA) - Friday 31 May 2002
Track: Slow
Weather: Fine
Rail: True

RACE 1 – GAMBIER EARTH MOVERS / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP – 1100 metres

The start of this race was delayed due to ECHO MINX (C. Puls) and SKYE ROUGE (S. Harrison) being difficult to load.

BARTAS BOY (M. Neilson) and SKYE ROUGE (S. Harrison) were slow to begin.

When the gates opened RUAH (T. Barras) and RAQ THE QUE (G. Childs) collided twice.

Racing to the 400 metres WELCOME RAE (D. Yendall) and RAQ THE QUE (G. Childs) brushed.

RACE 2 – YALUMBA CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

C. Robertson, rider of NEWDALE, was asked if he could explain the apparent poor performance of the mare today. C. Robertson explained that he was never able to get the mare on the bit, and that she failed to respond to his riding at any stage throughout the race.

RACE 3 – AUSPINE SOUTH EASTERN STEEPLECHASE – about 3400 metres

BASANK (H. O’Sullivan) was eased down out of the race at approximately the 1600 metres and failed to finish.

MAGIC LIRA (W. Williams) jumped the third last steeple awkwardly.

DANKWORTH (J. Hateley) jumped the last steeple very awkwardly.

TOKEN suffered a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the running of the race. Mr. N. Ellis, Trainer of TOKEN, was advised the gelding was now suspended from racing for a period of three months in accordance with ARR 53A.

P. Fahy, rider of TURKEY LANE, explained to the Stewards the gelding had been reluctant to race well in the early stages, and had failed to jump well throughout the race. TURKEY LANE hit the obstacle at the 1400 metres and lost ground.

Subsequent to the event a Veterinary inspection of BASANK failed to reveal any visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 – WIN TELEVISION / SABIS 3YO C & G MAIDEN PLATE – 1300 metres

JEFFERSON (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 700 metres GRAND ARCHIE (B. Blacker) rolled out, inconveniencing JEFFERSON (J. Holder).

RACE 5 – SCOTT-MOBIL MOUNT GAMBIER GOLD CUP – 2400 metres

WELL STAMPED (C. Bryant) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 1800 metres MIGHTY EEL (S. Harrison) rolled in, resulting in BITSKI (M. Neilson) being eased and as a result SLY RAMBLER (J. Holder) was tightened for room.

Racing to the 900 metres KEY TO MY DREAMS (D. Yendall) had to be checked to avoid the heels of RHYDDERCH (D. Missen), when that gelding rolled out and then rolled back in.

Racing to the 600 metres SLY RAMBLER (J. Holder) shifted out, resulting in BITSKI (M. Neilson) being taken out and as a result HIDDEN ACCOUNT (G. Hoobin) shifted out abruptly, across the heels of ALL THE ACTION (W. Hokai). In consequence DINKY BARRY (M. Hagley) was hampered. Stewards advised J. Holder he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was solely responsible.

RACE 6 – BEAUREPAIRES FOR TYRES CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1580 metres

Racing between the 1200 and the 1000 metres LAVINTI (W. Hokai) over-raced severely and as a result had to be steadied and lost ground.

RACE 7 – ABN AMRO / SABIS FILLIES & MARES CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

No report.

RACE 8 – SAVINGS & LOAN CREDIT UNION MAIDEN PLATE – 900 metres

When the gates were released MYOPIC (C. Robertson) was slow into stride and at the same time LITTLE BORIS (M. Hagley) shifted out and ECHO ETOILE (B. Payne) shifted in, further inconveniencing MYOPIC.

Racing to the 800 metres INTIMATELY (D. Yendall) shifted in and as a result ECHO ETOILE (B. Payne) shifted in and away from that gelding, colliding with SUPREME CONFIDENCE (J. Holder), which in turn shifted in and hampered CHEZ NOUS (W. Kerford).
