 RACE 1 PATRICK HORSE TRANSPORT
STEEPLECHASE 3280 metres: CURRENCY ROAD was withdrawn by
Stewards at 10.52 a.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the gelding was lame in the near
fore leg. WINSOME WILLY was inspected by the
Clubs Veterinary Surgeon at the start, who reported the gelding to be lame in the
near fore fetlock. Acting on that advice Stewards withdrew WINSOME WILLY at 12.12 p.m. Stewards ruled that all monies invested on
WINSOME WILLY be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be
paid on the face value of the ticket less: Bets for a WIN - 31 cents in the dollar,
andBets for a PLACE - 28 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.
 G. Preston, rider of HOSTLER, reported the
gelding had hung out throughout the event. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary inspection
of HOSTLER failed to reveal any visible abnormalities. RACE 2 CLARKE GRAIN SABIS 2YEARS OLD MAIDEN
PLATE 1000 metres: Correct Weight for this event was
delayed to permit P. Gatt, rider of VOLNAY 2nd Placegetter, to review the
official head-on footage in the straight. After doing so P. Gatt lodged an objection
against TELESTICH (C. Lever) being declared the winner, on the grounds of alleged
interference in the straight. After considering the evidence of both riders, viewing the
official films and acting on their own observations, P. Gatt was advised that although his
momentum had been impeded briefly on two occasions in the straight, Stewards were not
convinced the placings were affected and his objection was dismissed. RACE 3 STILLWELL MAIDEN PLATE
1000 metres: BOOJUM (B. Vale) was slow to jump. Near the 800 metres PRINCE BLEV (J.
Potter), which was inclined to race keenly, was obliged to shift out and away from the
heels of CHIQUITA SUNRISE (C. Bryant) and in doing so brushed BOOJUM (B. Vale), taking
that filly out onto ILL TROVATORE (S. Price). Near the 700 metres PROMISES N
LIES (D. Azis) brushed the running rail when obliged to steady away from the heels of RAJA
MAHAL (M. Neilson), which shifted in. Inside the 400 metres GLENWEST (W. Kerford)
shifted in abruptly and contacted ANGELAQ (T. Creek), resulting in that filly being
unbalanced. GLENWEST continued to lay in for a short distance thereafter. Approaching the 100 metres PRINCE BLEV (J.
Potter) was held up for a short distance. RACE 4 D & T PERFORMANCE 2
YEARS OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division) 1400 metres: RUSSIAN VAULTER (S. Price) jumped away
awkwardly and shortly afterwards shifted out, taking LUNG TAH (T. Barras) out onto VANARDO
        (D. Carney). Shortly after the start EIRES BABE
clipped the heels of MADISON GARDENS (J. Holder), resulting in H. McKechnie becoming
severely unbalanced in the saddle. Racing to the 600 metres SALEM (J. Potter)
got its head up and became reluctant when racing inside other runners. Approaching the 300 metres ZACCIO DAN (NZ)
        (S. Cahill) shifted out, tightening MADISON GARDENS (J. Holder) onto RUSSIAN VAULTER (S.
Price), which momentarily became unbalanced. As a result, MADISON GARDENS was
inconvenienced. Shortly after ZACCIO DAN (NZ) was tightened and lost its position by
STYLISH PLAYBOY (G. Dorol), which had been inclined to lay out under pressure and shifted
out at the same time as RUSSIAN VAULTER shifted in. S. Cahill, rider of ZACCIO DAN (NZ) 3rd
Placegetter, lodged an objection against RUSSIAN VAULTER (S. Price) being declared 2nd
Placegetter and the winner STYLISH PLAYBOY (G. Dorol), on the grounds of alleged
interference in the vicinity of the 250 metres. After considering evidence from all
riders, viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards were
not convinced the resultant interference to ZACCIO DAN (NZ) was sufficient to impact on
its placing and both objections were dismissed. RACE 5 R & W P FOWLER
SABIS 3-Y-O CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1600 metres: EXALTED BEAU (J. Maund) knuckled on jumping
away. HILTON CROWN (C. Lever) and SPINNING SILK
        (S. Price) were slow to jump. Approaching the 1200 metres ROYAL JEUNE (J.
OConnor), while being steadied, got its head up and raced ungenerously for some
distance. In the vicinity of the 500 metres DAMSELAC
WARRIOR (P. Gatt) was disappointed for galloping room when attempting a run outside ROYAL
JEUNE (J. OConnor) which had commenced to weaken, and inside SPINNING SILK (S.
Price) as that filly was being momentarily tightened by LITTLE MISS CINDY (C. Lindop).
DAMSELAC WARRIOR became unbalanced and lost its position. Racing to the 100 metres FOX HELIOS (J.
Lyon) was obliged to steady off the heels of DAMSELAC WARRIOR (P. Gatt), which rolled in
under riding. Near the 100 metres ESQUILAX (D. Carney)
shifted out under riding and brushed EXALTED BEAU (J. Maund). C. Lever, rider of HILTON CROWN, explained
that his mount had raced further back than he had expected, however to race closer to the
lead he would have been obliged to race at least four horses off the rail. Subsequent to
the race a Veterinary inspection of HILTON CROWN failed to reveal any visible
abnormalities. RACE 6 GILBERT RACING CLASS 1
HANDICAP 1200 metres: SOULS (M. Hoppo) was slow to jump. In the vicinity of the 200 metres LORD
JAPATO (NZ) (J. Lyon) was obliged to steady off the heels of VILLAGE BOY (J. Potter),
which shifted in. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
examination of PRINCESS TAYLAH revealed signs of respiratory distress. An endoscopic
examination of the filly proved negative. RACE 7 SMOKE-FREE CLASS 3
HANDICAP 1600 metres: DONATONI (C. Lindop) shifted out on
jumping away and hampered JAMATRE (W. Kerford). On several occasions in the middle stages
MARSCMER (Darren Holland) was inconvenienced and tightened by DONATONI (C. Lindop), which
was inclined to over-race and shift about. Approaching the 600 metres MARSCMER (Darren
Holland) was obliged to steady off the heels of DONATONI (C. Lindop), which had been taken
in marginally by THE BARON (B. Vale), which shifted in. Inside the 500 metres DONATONI (C. Lindop)
was obliged to check off the heels of MARSCMER (Darren Holland), as that gelding was
obliged to steady when taken out by KYMATT (J. Holder). Approaching the 400 metres EXTRA SPESH (M.
Neilson) shifted out, tightening BAD BOY BUCK (P. Gatt) onto BELLTON (D. Carney), taking
that gelding out onto the hind-quarters of MARSCMER (Darren Holland), which were turned
out, resulting in that gelding becoming unbalanced. In consequence EXTRA SPESH and BELLTON
became unbalanced. M. Neilson was advised against the practice of using the whip in the
left hand in similar circumstances. MARSCMER suffered a laceration to its off
hind leg during the race. SOUTHERN SPUR (P. Gatt) jumped away
awkwardly. SWABBING: Race 5 EXALTED BEAU (winner)Race 7 MARSCMER (winner)
