Murray Bridge (SA) - Wednesday 29 August 2001

Track: Dead
Weather: Overcast
Rail: Normal Position

RACE 1 – SCHWEPPES/SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE

D. Tootell replaced D. Carney as the rider of SABINE owing to D. Carney being indisposed through injury.

JUST PETE (J. Bowditch), PRINCESS NICKY (J. Maund) and SABINE (D. Tootell) were all slow to begin.

Shortly after the start PRINCESS NICKY (J. Maund) shifted out resulting in JUST PETE (J. Bowditch) being inconvenienced.

BORNEO BEAUTY (C. Lindop) raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.

Racing inside the 200 metres SQUILLANI (G. Dorol) was reluctant to take a run on the inside of TELBON LOTTO (B. Claridge) resulting in SQUILLANI becoming unbalanced for a short distance.

Racing to the line TELBON LOTTO (B. Claridge) shifted out and away from SQUILLANI (G. Dorol) resulting in PRINCESS NICKY (J. Maund) having to ease.

G. Dorol, rider of SQUILLANI, was dislodged from that gelding on returning to Scale and as a result was ruled unfit to ride for the remainder of the day owing to a knee injury.

RACE 2 – CLIPSAL/SABIS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE (Division 1)

J. Lorensini replaced G. Dorol as the rider of MAKE MINE RUBY.

Acting on a report from the Club Farrier, Mr. Scott Windsor, that the plating on GINGA ‘N’ SPICE was not to a satisfactory level, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of that mare at 1.00 pm. All bets on GINGA ‘N’ SPICE were declared off; bets on other runners were not affected. Subsequently, Mr. R. Modra, trainer of GINGA ‘N’ SPICE was fined the sum of $200 under ARR 8(n).

The start of this race was delayed two minutes owing to AWAY WITH FAIRIES proving reluctant to be placed in its stall. As a result Mr. S. Padman, trainer of that mare, was advised that a repetition of its behaviour could lead to it being banned for a period.

AWAY WITH FAIRIES (J. Bowditch) and GINGER RAJA (P. Gatt) were both slow to begin.

Stewards questioned Mr. S. Padman, trainer of AWAY WITH FAIRIES, and that mare’s rider, J. Bowditch, regarding its poor performance today. J. Bowditch reported to Stewards that AWAY WITH FAIRIES had been extremely agitated prior to the start and was difficult to load. He further stated that on jumping away the mare had shown a tendency to over-race and he had formed the opinion that AWAY WITH FAIRIES may have trained off. This opinion was shared by Mr. S. Padman, who reported to Stewards that AWAY WITH FAIRIES would now be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards noted the explanations tendered. A veterinary inspection of AWAY WITH FAIRIES revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 3 – CLIPSAL/SABIS FILLIES AND MARES MAIDEN PLATE (Division 2)

Darren Holland replaced D. Carney as the rider of CLOSE IMITATION.

A swab sample was taken from LITTLE MISS LINA, winner of the race.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow M. Munday, rider of BELLYBUTTON, to view the official film in the vicinity of the 600 metres. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres RIP ‘EM OFF (W. Kerford) shifted in and away from CLOSE IMITATION (Darren Holland) resulting in LEGS (D. Azis) being tightened for galloping room and having to ease. Shortly after RIP ‘EM OFF shifted out abruptly resulting in CELCIT SYMBOL (S. Price) being inconvenienced.

In the vicinity of the 600 metres CELTIC SYMBOL (S. Price) shifted in slightly; at the same time ENCOSTA MIA (C. Lever) shifted in and away from that horse. In consequence BELLYBUTTON (M. Munday) clipped the heels of ENCOSTA MIA, dipped and shifted out abruptly. As a result LEGS (D. Azis) was forced to check and change direction to avoid the heels of BELLYBUTTON. Stewards took no further action as they believed that no one rider was responsible.

RACE 4 – ATKINS PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS 3 HANDICAP

BRIGHT ROCK (Darren Holland) jumped away awkwardly and that horse showed a tendency to race ungenerously in the early and middle stages of the event.

DISCO KID (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

B. Claridge, rider of REFLEXES, was advised by the Stewards of his obligations in riding his mounts out to the line.

RACE 5 – MEGA ELECTRICAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP

Mr. B. Dunn, trainer of BLOW THE BUDGET, was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for that horse at the required time.

CELLAY, which dislodged its rider J. Potter going to the barriers, galloped for some distance before being recaptured. A subsequent veterinary inspection passed that mare fit to take its place in the field. J. Potter was uninjured in the incident.

P. Gatt replaced D. Carney as the rider of SEA DAN.

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres VANDECLARE (D. Tootell) shifted in slightly resulting in YOUTHORIA (C. Lindop) being taken in and at the same time shifting away from VANDECLARE. In consequence VELVET LAKE (H. McKechnie), which had been racing on the inside of YOUTHORIA, and which had been showing a tendency to over-race, was buffeted for a short distance. Stewards took no further action as they believed that no one rider was responsible.

RACE 6 – HOOKED ON GOLF CLASS 5 HANDICAP

In the vicinity of the 1200 metres SOAKING (T. Creek) shifted in resulting in JESTER CHESTER (S. Price) shifting in and away from that horse. In consequence CLASSY LOOKER (B. Claridge), which had been racing on the inside of JESTER CHESTER, was forced to ease and lose its position. Stewards took no further action as they believed that no one rider was responsible but advised T. Creek of his obligations when shifting ground.

CLASSY LOOKER (B. Claridge) was disappointed for a run for the majority of the straight.

Racing inside the 200 metres IRISH MUR (R. Faehr) was disappointed for a run.

RACE 7 – WEST END CLASS 2 HANDICAP

A swab sample was taken from MISS VICTORY, winner of the race.

HEY BROTHER lost a near hind plate during the running of the race.

RACE 8 – JOE CANNIZZARO COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE

P. Marks replaced G. Dorol as the rider of ETTAMOGAH LAD.
