Naracoorte (SA) - Sunday 11 November 2001
Track: Good
Weather: Overcast & Showery
Rail - Normal position.

RACE 1 – CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):

JEFFERSON (K. Post) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 200 metres ECHOLADE (P. Marks) laid out and inconvenienced WAROOKA HONEY (D. Tootell).

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow C. Puls, rider of Dead Heater for 4th TRESPASSERS WILL, to view the Photo-Finish of the race. After doing so, in conjunction with Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

RACE 2 – HAGE TRACTORS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division)

On jumping away DUSKY JEWEL (K. Post) was inconvenienced due to POWERFUL MAN (NZ) (S. Harrison) shifting in; at the same time as NOT RELIABLE (D. Mittiga) shifted out.

DUSKY JEWEL suffered minor lacerations to the mouth during the running of the race.

RACE 3 – KNIGHT’S SNACK BAR MAIDEN PLATE (1st Division):

A swab sample was taken from NAVARAC, winner of the race.

TKACHEV (S. Harrison) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 500 metres CHESTERFIELD (G. Hoobin) was inconvenienced when having to avoid the heels of FOREST OF GOLD (B. Vale) when that gelding commenced to weaken.

RACE 4 – S E BOOKMAKERS MAIDEN PLATE (2nd Division):

Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RUBIREIGN at 1.25 p.m. when it was found the mare had not arrived on course by the required time.

Stewards ruled that all monies wagered on RUBIREIGN be refunded. Bets made prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 31 cents in the dollar from the face value of the ticket, and
Bets for a PLACE - 21 cents in the dollar from the winnings only.

Ms. E. Cruttenden, Trainer of RUBIREIGN, explained she had conveyed to the Secretary’s Office she would be late on course due to a vehicle breakdown. Stewards were able to confirm Ms. Cruttenden’s statement and she was advised in future to make sure she contacted the Stewards. The Naracoorte Racing Club’s Officer was also advised that such information should be relayed to the Stewards.

GUM SAAN (G. Hoobin) was slow to begin.

Racing to the 500 metres GRAND ARCHIE (K. Post) was inconvenienced due to LUCKY VEINE (P. Marks) rolling in, at the same time as LA BELLISSIMA (C. Lindop) showing a tendency to lay out.

RACE 5 – M.G.A. INSURANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP:

Racing to the 300 metres SOVIET RISING (G. Hoobin) had to be eased to avoid the heels of KING OF THE BAY (D. Yendall), when that gelding rolled in.

RACE 6 – NARACOORTE CHAFF CO. HANDICAP:

JET EXPRESS (NZ) (P. Marks) was slow to begin.

J. Bowditch, rider of FUTURE COMMAND, explained that he became concerned with the reluctance of the gelding to race inside horses, and from the 1200 to the 1000 metres he moved to the outside of the field to give FUTURE COMMAND more room to race. However, J. Bowditch stated that from this point on FUTURE COMMAND struggled and despite his efforts with the whip the gelding failed to finish the race off. Stewards noted the explanations tendered by J. Bowditch.

RACE 7 – DONNA’S ELECTRICAL/GRAROCK PLUMBING/SABIS F & M CLASS 3 HANDICAP SP SERIES 5):

G. O’Loughlin replaced K. Post as the rider of LUCIETON LADY, due to that rider being overweight. K. Post was subsequently charged under ARR 120(b) and fined $100.

REDS (T. Barras) jumped away awkwardly.

Racing to the 1000 metres ELAVION (C. Lindop) showed a tendency to hang out and lost ground as a result.

Racing to the 700 metres SPANISH PRINCESS (P. Marks) had to be severely checked as a result of having to come off the heels of LA SUPREMO (J. Bowditch), which had to be steadied as a result of SUMMER WIND (S. Harrison) easing.

S. Harrison was advised by Stewards to exercise more care when easing his mounts.

Racing to the 500 metres ELAVION (C. Lindop), which was reluctant to hold its position, lost ground as a result of MISS NALA (Darren Holland) rolling in, and at the same time LA SUPREMO (J. Bowditch) shifting out slightly.

At approximately the 50 metres MISS NALA (Darren Holland) shifted in slightly and as a result ELAVION (C. Lindop) shifted in very abruptly and as a result SPANISH PRINCESS (P. Marks) clipped the heels of ELAVION and was nearly dislodged. Stewards took no further action as they believed no one rider was responsible.

RACE 8 – NARACOORTE HERALD/SABIS CLASS 1 HANDICAP:

A swab sample was taken from VERY QUIET, winner of the race.

Racing to the 1100 metres BLEVONIC (D. Mittiga) had to be eased when the pace slackened and lost ground.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres ARCHINGLY (C. Lindop) showed a tendency to lay out and as a result made contact with MISS CASH (L. Smith), which in turn hampered CITY PRESS (J. Potter).

D. Yendall, rider of STAR OF NEARCO Placed 4th, requested to view the Official Photo-Finish of the race and after doing so in conjunction with the Stewards Correct Weight was declared.

RACE 9 – TOLL IPEC DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP:

KILORA QUEEN (S. Price) and HEADACHE (W. Kerford) were slow to begin.

IT’S LEGAL (J. Potter) lost ground between the 600 and 300 metres when disappointed for a run behind BRUEGHELDANCER (T. Barras) when that gelding commenced to lose ground.

Mr. R. Dolan, Trainer of OUR ENTOURAGE, explained that he was not surprised by the gelding’s improved performance as at its previous start at Bordertown the gelding had been very slow to begin but had finished the race off quite satisfactorily. Mr. Dolan also explained that he had schooled OUR ENTOURAGE the previous day. Stewards noted Mr. Dolan’s explanation.
