        (J. Potter) had to be checked to avoid the heels of THUMPING (Darren Holland), which had
commenced to race greenly and shifted in, away from TUDOR ARMY (W. Kerford). Inside the 400 metres NAME IT (J. Potter)
was obliged to check off the heels of OXFORD BELLA (B. Claridge), which shifted in and

ruled fit to start. MORE MELBOURNE (S. Harrison) was slow to
jump. MAR DES BOY (T. Barras) jumped away
awkwardly. Racing to the 800 metres MIGHTY ATILLA (W.
Kerford), which had commenced to get its head up and race ungenerously, was obliged to
steady off the heels of MAR DES BOY (T. Barras) for a short distance. Inside the 500 metres GRENOUILLE (G.
Hoobin) rolled in and tightened STACK THE DECK (D. Tootell), resulting in that gelding
becoming unbalanced for a short distance. RACE 4 WILLIAM MACINTOSH MOTEL

Yendall) was inconvenienced by JACK OF SPADES (B. Claridge), which rolled out. In the vicinity of the 300 metres KELBOY

Lindop) shifted out and brushed JACK OF SPADES (B. Claridge), which reacted and shifted
away abruptly, resulting in KEELYS GIFT (J. Maund) and BEAUQUEST (D. Yendall) being
forced wider. Approaching the 100 metres BEAUQUEST (D.
Yendall) shifted in and hampered KEELYS GIFT (J. Maund). B. Claridge, rider of JACK OF SPADES,

DISTANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP: FAMOUS PIRATE (W. Kerford) was held
up for a short distance approaching the entrance to the straight. When questioned regarding his handling of
DANTES WISH, B. Claridge explained that he had been instructed to lead on the
gelding, as it was the Trainer Mr. A. Oppermans opinion that DANTES WISH was
less than genuine if unable to do so. B. Claridge further stated that in the vicinity of
the 1400 metres he had considered allowing RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ) (L. Smith) to stride to the
lead and had eased his mount. He added that his mount had struggled after being placed
under pressure near the 600 metres. When questioned regarding his riding of
RHYTHM ROYALE (NZ), L. Smith explained that he had been instructed to lead at all cost, as
his mount was considered to be one-paced. Despite these instructions L. Smith could not
offer any explanation as to why he did not take the opportunity to go to the lead in the
vicinity of the 1400 metres when B. Claridge, on his inside, had attempted to ease and
could offer no explanation as to why he had put his mount under severe pressure in the
vicinity of the 900 metres. L. Smith was informed that, in the Stewards
opinion, his ride lacked initiative and in future he should ride in a manner which
provided his mounts with the opportunity to obtain the best result possible. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary
inspection of DANTES WISH revealed the gelding exhibited an elevated heart rate and
an elevated respiratory rate, and was slow to recover. Subsequent to the race the Veterinary
Surgeon confirmed that ADVENTUROUS BOY sustained a bi-lateral bleeding attack during the
race. Mrs. A. Hunt, Trainer of ADVENTUROUS BOY,

when shifting ground. KENVARS (G. Hoobin) was eased out of the
